The Diablo 4 Warplan system introduced in Lord of Hatred changes everything at endgame. Rob2628 published a full video on the subject and tested every configuration. You can now specialize each activity separately, with dedicated talent trees. The more you invest in an activity, the higher the rewards: crafting materials, mythic items, massive XP, sparks and gold. The expansion also shook up the Lord of Hatred leaderboards, making these trees even more strategic.
This article covers all 7 trees of the Diablo 4 Warplan: Tree of Whispers, Nightmare Dungeons, Helltides, Undercity, Layer Bosses, Infernal Hordes and The Pit. For each one, you'll find the node order to prioritize and the synergies you can't afford to miss. Respeccing is expensive, so you're better off following a tested config before spending your points.
Diablo 4 Warplan Tree of Whispers: mythic sparks and XP boost
The Tree of Whispers is one of the most profitable systems in the Diablo 4 Warplan. It levels naturally as you do your usual Whispers, with no extra effort required. Might as well take advantage of it to maximize rewards.
Rob recommends going down the middle path to the Favoreur Resplendissant. This is the absolute priority: this node gives you mythic sparks, essential for forging your mythic items at the blacksmith. Take this path first, before anything else.
The right branch comes right after. It unlocks the Sagesse des Murmures, which adds 50% XP to experience globes and a good chance of getting an extra spark with each turn-in. As a bonus, new spawn modes for Vashan activate on this branch. Vashan is a boss that drops more loot, so it's worth the detour. Middle path first, right branch second.
Nightmare Dungeons: Fearless Conviction and goblin hunting
In the Diablo 4 Warplan, the Nightmare Dungeon tree revolves around two nodes to unlock in order. You take the left node first: Fearless Conviction. Every Elite you kill builds conviction stacks (green indicator). These stacks carry over until the end of the dungeon. Goblins count as Elites, so every goblin killed feeds the gauge. Once at 50 stacks, a Conviction Chest Cache appears at the dungeon exit: it contains Nightmare Keys, materials for the Horadric Cube, unique fragments, set charms and Greater Affixes.
The second node on the right is Goblin Fall, the Treasure Breaches branch. It spawns additional goblins inside the dungeon, with even denser loot. The synergy with Fearless Conviction is immediate: more goblins, more stacks, an even more generous chest. When you hit a Shrine, the effect multiplies. The Shrine node doubles the loot from every goblin killed while the effect is active. At that point, loot explosions become absurd.
Rob tests this combination in Torment 12. His recommendation is clear: rush the Fearless Conviction node first, then go goblin hunting. If a Shrine activates, the goblins spawned by Goblin Fall will also spawn additional Elites, feeding the conviction stacks even more. This is the most profitable configuration in Nightmare Dungeons for a loot optimization session.
Helltides: massive XP and boosted difficulty
Rob climbed to Paragon 300 mainly through the Helltide. His Diablo 4 Warplan config exploits the Wire and Wrath node, which spawns extra XP globes and Duriel packs on Maggots, making the Helltide harder but also far more profitable. Added to that is the Meat Brothers node: The Butcher now appears during Helltide ambushes, with his own exclusive drops.
These fights drop a new endgame material called Brains, used to craft Profane Mine Cages. This consumable is the only elixir you can drink during the activity: it increases monster level by +1 and stacks up to 3 times, for a total bonus of +3 monster level over 60 minutes. Enemies display this bonus directly next to their name.
It's this combination, Wire and Wrath, Meat Brothers and stacked Profane Mine Cages, that makes the build so effective for pushing Paragon quickly while maintaining high difficulty. It's also at this difficulty level that builds like the Infinite Unstable Current Sorcerer shine.
Undercity: the mythic item machine
The Undercity is the most profitable Diablo 4 Warplan activity for farming mythic items. Rob consistently recommends going left on the tree: Gut Filth and the Portal Pranksters. The idea is simple: when you light the beacons and use a mythic tribute, every goblin in the dungeon guarantees an extra mythic drop. Rob himself saw up to five mythic items drop in a single Undercity run.
It's also the main source of resplendant sparks for crafting your mythic items. Ring of Starless Skies, Heir of Perdition, Shako, Harlequin Crest: all of them go through this path. Prioritize the left branch on every run.
Once you've collected the goblins, move through the central branch with the Idols of War: they allow you to drop extra tributes. If you've maxed the node, you can put the last point into +1 monster power, which further boosts session rewards.
Layer Bosses: Nemesis Layer and Grego's Gambit
In this Diablo 4 Warplan tree dedicated to Layer Bosses, the absolute priority goes to the three bottom-right nodes that unlock the Nemesis Layer. After killing a boss with a large key, you have a chance to see an additional boss appear through a red portal. This portal is comparable to the Uber Tristram from Diablo 2 and can reward up to three mythic uniques in a single run. Boss keys accumulate very easily in Helltides, so take full advantage.
Right after, invest in Grego's Gambit. This node has a direct synergy with Helltide chests: opening them spawns extra monsters with a high probability of being a Grego's Gambit monster. The result: more uniques, a high chance of ancestrals and real loot explosions. This is particularly powerful if you play with the Devastating Wisp, like some top-tier rank 1 builds that maximize unique drops.
The specialization order is clear: Nemesis Layer first, Grego's Gambit second. The remaining points in monster power are optional and far less impactful. As long as you have these two nodes, you're in a good position to farm efficiently.
Infernal Hordes: ether farm and massive gold
To maximize ether in the Diablo 4 Warplan, Rob recommends heading toward the center then the right of the tree: first Black Pact, which gives the Chaos Waves more ether and extra powers, then Devil's Deal to unlock the Infernal Challenges. With a solid character, the amount of ether collected becomes massive.
Infernal Hordes are also the best activity for farming gold in the game. By investing in them, the Seals from the S13 Talisman system can reach 900% gold find, meaning ten times more gold per run. Enough to accumulate billions of gold and dozens of seals in no time.
Rob points out that it's not his favorite activity, he prefers Nightmare Dungeons and the Helltide, but many players love it. If you want to go all-in on gold and seals, Infernal Hordes is the obvious choice.
The Pit: Heart of Stone and Thief Goblins
In The Pit, the Diablo 4 Warplan nodes let you convert Glyphs into extra gear or XP. But the first two points to always take are the Heart of Stone ones: at the start of the run, you pick up this heart and the monsters you kill have a chance to drop blue progression orbs. These orbs speed up the run dramatically. Rob clears Pit 130 in under 2 minutes with his Woven Bar barbarian (the "spin to win" build), a profile you can find in our top 3 Barbarian Season 13 builds. At the final boss, you can return the heart in exchange for a chance to level an extra Glyph or get a gear drop.
Rob rounds it out with Thief Goblins, which lets Goblins spawn inside The Pit and bring bonus progression orbs. Then Croner Soul, excellent for stacking XP and advancing Paragon levels. Rob is already at Paragon 300 in the video, but he says it himself: 99% of players aren't there yet. Paragon levels remain one of the most powerful levers for amplifying Glyphs and build multipliers.
