Build Overview

The immortal Barbarian WhirlwindWhirlwind build by @Rob2628 is what he describes as the best build of Diablo 4 Season 13 — Lord of Hatred — for the vast majority of the game's content. The principle is as simple as it is effective: keep WhirlwindWhirlwind spinning continuously, chain all three War Shouts to maintain permanent Wrath of the BerserkerWrath of the Berserker, and be literally immortal thanks to the combination of Melted Heart of SeligMelted Heart of Selig and Endurant Faith.

Rob presents the main variant here, called Immortal OP 200T+, which he recommends for 99% of all content: farming, sub-one-minute speed runs in Torment 120, Boss Killer, and even AFK-standing on the Boss. On dummies, the build caps at 200 trillion damage per tick thanks to the Blood Boiling AspectBlood Boiling Aspect, which permanently maintains 12 Overpower charges, each granting 400% bonus damage. The Fury generation mechanic is central to the build: Rob stresses the importance of having enough Fury generation (on boots, pants, and chest) so that WhirlwindWhirlwind never consumes more resource than it produces. He personally targets around 500 Fury and 400 Life — a roughly 1:1 ratio that guarantees immortality.

The build's strength also rests on the polearm expertise technique, which massively amplifies Overpower stacks, and on Ramaladni's Magnum OpusRamaladni's Magnum Opus, which converts accumulated Fury into raw damage. This isn't a build that requires optimizing every mechanic: Rob plays it casually, watches videos during runs, and doesn't touch a thing. Everything dies. Even Mephisto on Torment 12 can't drain 2% of his Fury.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Total immortality across virtually all content thanks to Melted Heart of SeligMelted Heart of Selig + Endurant Faith
  • Colossal damage output: 200 trillion DPS with 12 permanent Overpower stacks via the Blood Boiling AspectBlood Boiling Aspect
  • Triple shout (Rallying CryRallying Cry, War CryWar Cry, Challenging ShoutChallenging Shout) + Aspect of Anger ManagementAspect of Anger Management for near-permanent Berserking
  • Ultra-fast farming: sub-1-minute runs in Torment 120, sub-2-minute runs in Torment 130
  • Extremely simple gameplay: keep WhirlwindWhirlwind going, everything dies effortlessly

Cons

  • Mephisto's "bite" attack can bypass immortality if you stand completely still — Rob recommends repositioning slightly
  • Fury must be carefully calibrated (generation on boots, pants, chest): without this ratio, WhirlwindWhirlwind will drain the resource
  • For pushing Pit 150, this setup gives way to the Freeze variant, which is more demanding to play

The helmet Heir of PerditionHeir of Perdition is the primary mythic choice, providing a massive volume of critical strike chance. Rob pairs it with the Blood Boiling AspectBlood Boiling Aspect to permanently maintain 12 Overpower charges: as soon as one is consumed, a new one is generated almost instantly through Lucky Hit procs from WhirlwindWhirlwind.

Gohr's Devastating GripsGohr's Devastating Grips serve a dual offensive purpose: pulling enemies in during WhirlwindWhirlwind and granting a damage bonus when you stop. The Aspect of Heavenly StrengthAspect of Heavenly Strength on the chest is what makes the build so resilient — it provides massive defense that Rob calls "giga toughness."

For weapons, Ramaladni's Magnum OpusRamaladni's Magnum Opus must be assigned to WhirlwindWhirlwind on the mace, as only the main-hand weapon determines weapon damage. The polearm expertise technique grants 8 additional Overpower stacks, allowing you to reach and maintain 12 stacks permanently — regardless of whatever weapon is actually equipped in the polearm slot.

The Ring of Starless SkiesRing of Starless Skies (mythic) reduces the resource cost of WhirlwindWhirlwind, greatly easing Fury management. Rob notes that a well-optimized legendary ring can replace it, but the Ring of Starless SkiesRing of Starless Skies is easier to acquire in practice. The Melted Heart of SeligMelted Heart of Selig (mythic amulet) is the pivotal piece for immortality: it converts incoming damage into Fury loss rather than Life loss, and with a Fury/Life ratio close to 1:1 and continuous regeneration, damage never actually touches the Life bar.

The boots carry the Aspect of Anger ManagementAspect of Anger Management to maintain Berserking continuously, and the Aspect of Limitless RageAspect of Limitless Rage relies on Lucky Hits and primary resource generation to function — Rob emphasizes that you must switch the stat from "resource regeneration" to "Lucky Hit on resource" since the former is incompatible with the Aspect of Limitless RageAspect of Limitless Rage. The Tibault's WillTibault's Will pants amplify damage during fast movement phases. The Aspect of Channeling is included because WhirlwindWhirlwind is a channeling skill — you hold the button down continuously, no spamming.

Rob mentions the possibility of swapping the Melted Heart of SeligMelted Heart of Selig for the Banished Lord's TalismanBanished Lord's Talisman in the amulet slot to reach 400 to 600 trillion DPS — but at the cost of immortality. He reserves this option for players who want more raw DPS without needing absolute survivability.

Horadric Seal S13

Rob uses two sets in his Horadric Seal: the Berserk Set and the charms tied to Endurant Faith. He is unequivocal about this choice — it is the best setup, and in the configuration he presents he settles for basic seals rather than mythic ones. The Berserk Set because it lets you stay in Berserking effortlessly, in a fully passive manner. The Endurant Faith charm is the piece that makes the build truly immortal in combination with the Melted Heart of SeligMelted Heart of Selig: without it, immortality is not complete.

Rob also mentions Arreat's BearingArreat's Bearing among the charms in his Seal. The Aspect of Anger ManagementAspect of Anger Management provides additional support to guarantee permanent Berserking: with this charm combined with the Berserk Set, Rob explains that you stay in Berserking continuously without needing to do anything special.

Gameplay Tips

The Barbarian WhirlwindWhirlwind gameplay is intentionally simple. Rob insists: you hold WhirlwindWhirlwind down at all times — no spamming. It's a channeling skill — hold the button, that's it. The shouts (Rallying CryRallying Cry, War CryWar Cry, Challenging ShoutChallenging Shout) are used as soon as they come off cooldown, and Iron SkinIron Skin provides bonus Life, mobility, and resilience. Rob also plays Wrath of the BerserkerWrath of the Berserker as the main Ultimate for the offensive boost, but mentions Call of the AncientsCall of the Ancients as a valid alternative.

The skill Tornado is present in the tree solely to unlock the corresponding Paragon boards — it is not actively used in gameplay.

For content runs, Rob uses the bug jar (a town portal scroll) to pass through walls and obstacles: he emphasizes the importance of keeping the cursor slightly outside a wall rather than inside it, so the traversal happens smoothly. This extra mobility is, according to him, essential for achieving sub-1-minute runs in Torment 120.

Fury generation is the only point that requires attention when building the character. Rob targets 37 ranks of WhirlwindWhirlwind with 500 Fury, and recommends a minimum of 40 ranks and 450 Fury. Below this threshold, the resource may start draining during the continuous spin. The 1:1 Fury/Life ratio is the sweet spot for full immortality via the Melted Heart of SeligMelted Heart of Selig.

Regarding immortality and its limits: Rob clarifies that the Melted Heart of SeligMelted Heart of Selig + Endurant Faith combination resists virtually everything, but that certain Mephisto attacks — notably his bite — can occasionally bypass it. His answer is simple: don't stay completely still, always reposition slightly on the Boss. Outside of this very specific case, the build is entirely AFK on everything else in the game.

Rob also mentions an advanced farming strategy using the war plan, which generates extra progression orbs and allows you to stockpile thousands of crafting materials in seconds. This configuration is detailed in his linked planner below the video.

For rune farming runs in the Pit (Pit 120 in under a minute, Pit 130 in approximately 70 seconds according to Rob), Movement Speed is key. He targets around 300% Movement Speed permanently, thanks to buff shouts and the mobility provided by Iron SkinIron Skin.

Skill Tree

The skill selection revolves around a stable core: WhirlwindWhirlwind as the main skill (Rob plays the damage rune for general content, or the speed rune for casual Torment 12 play), Tornado to unlock Paragon boards, and the three shouts: Rallying CryRallying Cry for speed and buffs, Challenging ShoutChallenging Shout for resilience, and War CryWar Cry for the Vulnerable buff combined with wolves. Iron SkinIron Skin rounds out the kit for movement, bleeding, and Resolve. For the Ultimate, Rob recommends Wrath of the BerserkerWrath of the Berserker for the vast majority of players since it provides an Overpower charge almost immediately, which is valuable at the start. Call of the AncientsCall of the Ancients is a possible alternative.

Mercenary S13

The primary hired mercenary is Subo, with the talent Wired Trap. Subo is the Barbarian's support mercenary, oriented around traps and crowd control. As a reinforcement, Varyana is used for her offensive contribution in close-range combat.

Rob does not detail mercenary synergies in this video — configuration details can be found directly in his linked planner below the video.

Paragon and Glyphs

Rob lists his Paragon boards and glyphs in the video. He plays the MightMight glyph on the WarbringerWarbringer board (Stalwart) — which he considers more effective for DPS than the Exploit alternative. Next come CarnageCarnage, then ChallengerChallenger. He then cycles through the Blood RageBlood Rage, Tornado, WarbringerWarbringer, WrathWrath, DominateDominate, and finally Force of NatureForce of Nature boards.

Force of NatureForce of Nature is particularly important in this build because there are dust devils on WhirlwindWhirlwind itself — this glyph/board increases the size of whirlwinds and tornadoes, which mechanically amplifies hits per second and therefore Overpower and Lucky Hit procs. Rob notes that he generates hundreds of trillions of damage this way even without activating WrathWrath.

He also has a teleport on his Paragon boards, which allows him to maintain 300% Movement Speed near-permanently. Rob notes that he hasn't even finished investing all his Paragon points, and that the last few change virtually nothing about performance — the build is already at its ceiling well before that.

Immortality: Melted Heart of Selig + Endurant Faith

The combination that makes this build truly immortal is the interplay between the Melted Heart of SeligMelted Heart of Selig and the Endurant Faith charm from the Horadric Seal. The Melted Heart of SeligMelted Heart of Selig converts incoming damage into Fury drain rather than Life loss. With 500 Fury and WhirlwindWhirlwind continuously generating resource, enemies can never fully deplete the gauge. Endurant Faith protects this system by limiting the cases where a hit "pierces" through Fury to reach Life directly.

Rob insists: without Endurant Faith, immortality is not complete. Specific Mephisto attacks can still hit Life, notably his bite during certain phases. But with this setup, you can go full AFK on virtually everything else in the game — Torment 12 mobs, Bosses, Bloodied Hells — without ever dying.

Fury Generation and Fury/Life Ratio

The mechanical core of the build rests on Fury generation. WhirlwindWhirlwind is a skill that continuously consumes resource, and if generation doesn't compensate for consumption, the build falls apart. Rob targets a threshold of 500 Fury (he personally runs 37 ranks of WhirlwindWhirlwind with 500 Fury) and recommends having Fury generation rolls on boots, pants, and ideally the chest.

The Aspect of Limitless RageAspect of Limitless Rage further amplifies generation: Rob specifies that you should use Lucky Hits to regenerate primary resource rather than the standard "resource regeneration" stat, as the latter is incompatible with this Aspect. Ramaladni's Magnum OpusRamaladni's Magnum Opus converts total Fury into bonus damage — which is why Rob pushes to 500 Fury rather than staying at a lower number. The higher the Fury, the greater the damage. And since Fury protects Life through the Melted Heart of SeligMelted Heart of Selig, having a large Fury pool is doubly valuable: more damage AND more survivability.
