GUIDE VOLEUR
Build Overview
The Rogue
Penetrating Shot build is one of the most devastating mechanics available in Season 13 for this class. The idea is simple yet deadly: use
Penetrating Shot as your primary skill to pierce through enemy groups with arrows that punch through everything in their path, amplified by
Cold Imbuement to slow and Vulnerable targets before each volley. @MattiasTheGamer considers this the best Rogue build available right now, both for deep Pit runs and T4 content farming.
The rotation relies on the
Penetrating Shot and
Cold Imbuement duo: imbue your arrows with frost to freeze enemies, then fire a
Penetrating Shot that tears through the entire line dealing massive critical damage.
Shadow Clone multiplies your damage by copying every attack, while
Dark Shroud permanently maintains protective shadows around your character.
Shadow Step handles mobility and repositioning, and
Dash opens additional critical damage windows on every dash. The Preparation Specialization maximizes
Penetrating Shot uptime by resetting defensive cooldowns, allowing you to chain imbuements without any downtime.
The build excels in mass content — Pit corridors, world events — and performs extremely well against Bosses thanks to the
Godslayer Crown in Midgame, then the mythics
Heir of Perdition and
Tyrael's Might in Endgame to reach peak power.
Pros and Cons
✅ Pros
- Exceptional AoE damage thanks to line-piercing through targets
- Excellent Boss DPS with Midgame uniques and Endgame mythics
- Strong survivability through
Dark Shroud and permanent shadows - Smooth progression from Starter all the way to T4 Endgame content
Shadow Clone doubles your damage at no extra cost
❌ Cons
- Dependent on
Cold Imbuement — you need to manage its charges carefully - Damage spikes require good straight-line positioning
- The mythics
Heir of Perdition and
Tyrael's Might are hard to obtain

Loot Table
In the Starter phase, the build runs entirely on legendary pieces. The chest carries the
Encased Aspect which directly strengthens frost skills, and the pants rely on the
Aspect of Heavenly Strength to amplify line-of-sight damage. The boots receive the
Aspect of Biting Cold to maximize freeze duration, the amulet takes the
Shivering Aspect with three critical Greater Affixes (Vulnerable damage, Global damage, Dexterity), and the secondary ring carries the
Enhanced Shadow Step. The second weapon benefits from the
Aspect of Imitated Imbuement, a core piece of the build that duplicates imbuement effects.
In Midgame, the
Godslayer Crown replaces the legendary helm and radically shifts the build's power against Bosses. The gloves switch to the
Aspect of Frozen Memories with Greater Affixes in critical damage. The main ring becomes the
Scoundrel's Kiss for its synergies with
Penetrating Shot, and
Azurewrath as the main weapon delivers a massive frost damage bonus via its Greater Affixes (Life, Dexterity).
In Mythic Endgame,
Heir of Perdition in the helm slot and
Tyrael's Might in the chest form the optimal combination to push the build to its apex. The pants become the Shrouded Gift for synergies with
Concealment phases,
Scoundrel's Kiss stays as the main ring, and the second ring upgrades to the
Ring of Starless Skies to reduce energy cost and maximize
Penetrating Shot uptime. The gloves with
Aspect of Frozen Memories and the
Aspect of Imitated Imbuement on the secondary weapon remain non-negotiable pillars.
Horadric Seal S13
The Horadric Seal is the major new feature of Diablo 4 Season 13. This three-slot talisman lets you equip legendary charms that provide permanent passive bonuses, profoundly transforming a build's power. For the Penetrating Shot Rogue, the Endgame seals amplify frost effects, critical damage, and energy generation. Check out the interactive grid below to visualize the combination recommended by @MattiasTheGamer.
Gameplay Tips
The core rotation always starts by activating
Cold Imbuement before firing
Penetrating Shot: without imbuing, you lose half your damage. Position yourself so your shot line pierces through as many enemies as possible. Good alignment can multiply your damage by five or more on dense packs.
Dash should be used before your main
Penetrating Shot to benefit from the critical damage bonus it generates on the next target.
Shadow Clone is a high-priority skill: activate it as soon as you enter an elite pack or face a Boss. The clone copies your attacks and doubles
Penetrating Shot, which concretely doubles your global DPS during the phases it's active. Don't waste its cooldown on ordinary cannon fodder.
Energy management is critical.
Forceful Arrow serves as your basic energy generator — use it between
Penetrating Shot volleys to never run dry.
Smoke Grenade (available in Midgame and Endgame) is used to stun dense groups and lower their resistances before a maximum
Penetrating Shot volley. With the Preparation Specialization, don't underestimate cooldown resets: every time you reset a skill, you have a window to chain an imbuement + a shot.
Dark Shroud is your survival shield — keep it active at all times and refresh its charges as soon as you drop below three active shadows. Use
Shadow Step to escape dangerous situations, especially before an Elite pack or to quickly reach an isolated target.
Concealment (Endgame) is reserved for emergency situations or pack transitions.
Skill Tree
The build's skill tree maxes out
Penetrating Shot and
Cold Imbuement to rank 15, along with
Shadow Clone to double damage output.
Dark Shroud reaches rank 14 in Starter and rank 13 in Endgame to balance resources. The natural progression is to first unlock
Penetrating Shot upgrades (Shadow Shot, Damage Increase, Ferocity), then
Cold Imbuement upgrades (Frozen Heart for extended freezes), before finalizing
Dark Shroud and
Shadow Clone passives.
Mercenary S13
The build uses Raheir as the primary mercenary. His role is to absorb damage in place of the Rogue and keep enemies grouped together, which significantly eases alignment opportunities for
Penetrating Shot. Raheir excels in mass content where his toughness and taunt capabilities free the Rogue to reposition freely and line up piercing shots through packs.
As reinforcement, Varyana is recommended for her offensive skills and ability to amplify the group's overall damage. Her presence in combat helps cover phases where Raheir is busy tanking, adding extra DPS pressure on priority targets.
Paragon
The Paragon of the Rogue
Penetrating Shot build revolves around five boards: Start (starting board focused on core nodes), Cheap Shot with the
Control glyph (damage amplification against crowd-controlled enemies — perfectly synergizes with
Cold Imbuement freezes), Exploit Weakness with the Eclipse glyph (damage against enemies in a negative state), Eldritch Bounty with the
Devious glyph (damage multiplier based on the Rogue's Cunning skills), and Leyrana's Instinct with the
Versatility glyph (damage bonus for builds that alternate multiple skill types). The Start board hosts the
Assassin glyph to amplify critical damage — essential for a build as crit-focused as
Penetrating Shot. All five boards form a direct synergy with the gameplay loop: freeze with
Cold Imbuement, trigger
Control and Eclipse bonuses, then unleash a critical
Penetrating Shot amplified by
Assassin,
Devious, and
Versatility.

Salut.
Bonne run !
