Build Overview
What if a single build could one-shot the Uber Arbiter with four completely different weapons? That’s exactly the promise of this Martial Infernalist designed by GL1TCH3D: a fully modular Witch build that works equally well with a spear, a mace, a crossbow, a bow, or a quarterstaff. The same passive tree, the same core gear, and only about ten points to adjust depending on the chosen weapon.
The heart of the build rests on two simple but devastatingly effective ideas: a permanent low-life tech, and a staggering stack of Critical Damage Bonus. By accumulating multipliers (ascendancy, jewels, local modifiers), GL1TCH3D surpasses 3000% Critical Damage Bonus — and thanks to double crit, that figure climbs beyond 6000%. The result is simply broken: bosses drop in one hit, to the point that the community accused him of cheating after a simple video posted on Reddit.
On the defensive side, the Infernalist is no slouch either: over 7000 Energy Shield and an instantaneous Energy Shield leech that triggers as soon as you hit an enemy. Since the damage is colossal, the leech fills in a fraction of a second and you constantly recover. The centerpiece that orchestrates all of this? The Coward’s Legacy belt, which considers you « low-life » at 75% of your life — a detail that changes absolutely everything, as we will see.
Strengths / Weaknesses
✅ Strengths
- Total versatility: the same tree and the same gear work with any martial weapon (spear, mace, crossbow, bow, quarterstaff) — about ten points of difference is all it takes.
- Monstrous damage: multiplicative stacking of Critical Damage Bonus (up to 6000% via double crit) capable of one-shotting the Uber Arbiter.
- Very tanky: 7000+ Energy Shield with instant Energy Shield leech — you absorb hits and regenerate constantly.
- Affordable entry: the central piece, the Coward’s Legacy belt, costs around 1 Exalted Orb and drops frequently as early as level 40.
- Ignite immunity: the Crystallized Immunities nodes and red gems completely cancel the self-ignite penalty from the ascendancy.
- Boosted rage: the
notable Battle Trance cluster pushes maximum rage to 48, a damage multiplier that combines with
Berserk.
❌ Weaknesses
- Not a league starter: the build requires many travel points — it’s better to transition into it around level 85-90, once you have your martial weapon.
- Costly unique jewels: to exploit the full potential, you need to target jewel unique The Adorned, Rakiata’s Flow, and a jewel unique Megalomaniac, which are not very accessible at the start of a league.
- The cost lies in the weapon: like any martial build, most of the budget goes into a good weapon with a local Critical Damage Bonus.
- Low-life tech to master: you need to fully understand the life reservation + Coward’s Legacy interaction to permanently stay « low-life » without dying.

- Belt: Coward’s Legacy — the centerpiece. You are considered « low-life » at 75% of your maximum life, and you regenerate life while you are low-life. Drops commonly from level 40, ~1 Exalted Orb.
- Helmet:
Constricting Command — makes use of the many « surrounded » nodes already taken on the tree. - Weapon: any martial weapon (spear, mace, crossbow, bow, quarterstaff). Prioritize a local Critical Damage Bonus, which multiplies with all global modifiers. Tangletongue is an excellent option, especially since it benefits from the 0.5 improvements.
- Unique jewels: Flesh Crucible (with the keystone notable
keystone Pain Attunement, +30% Critical Damage Bonus while low-life), jewel unique The Adorned, Rakiata’s Flow, jewel unique Controlled Metamorphosis,
jewel unique Heart of the Well, and a jewel unique Megalomaniac. - Energy Shield leech: the unique amulet that converts your life leech into Energy Shield leech — essential for survival in maps.
Gameplay Tips
- Always stay in low-life: the Infernalist’s life reservation combined with Coward’s Legacy keeps you permanently below the 75% threshold — this is what activates
keystone Pain Attunement and Execute. - Socket red gems on the Crystallized Immunities nodes to become immune to ignite: the ascendancy downside (igniting on a critical strike) then disappears entirely.
- Activate Berserk without fear: Coward’s Legacy’s life regeneration compensates for the life loss from
Berserk, so you can keep it active continuously. - Do not level directly with this build: prefer an EDC or Infernalist « plants » leveling approach, then switch over around Level 85-90.
- Adapt the tree to your weapon: remove the quarterstaff projectile nodes, or Throat Seeker for the crossbow (lower base crit), and take the cluster matching your weapon.
The Infernalist Ascendancy: Turning Your Life Into Power
It all starts with the ascendancy. The Infernalist allows you to reserve a portion of your life in exchange for Spirit. Key point: this reservation reduces your current life, but not your maximum life. That is precisely the lever that makes the low-life tech possible. As a bonus, you gain a solid flat amount of Spirit to fuel your buffs.
For notables, GL1TCH3D favors
notable Bringer of Flame: all your damage (and your allies’) contributes to the magnitude of ignites. In practice, your massive physical and lightning damage fuels a devastating ignite DoT. If you prefer safety,
notable Loyal Hellhound provides damage reduction through loyalty. But the true cornerstone is
notable Grinning Immolation: +50% Critical Damage Bonus, and it is a multiplicative value. The downside? You ignite yourself on every critical strike — a « problem » we will address below.
The Low-Life Combo: The Secret of Coward’s Legacy
Here is the heart of the system. Normally, being « low-life » means dropping below 35% life — dangerous. The belt Coward’s Legacy changes the rule: you are considered low-life as soon as you drop below 75% of your maximum life. And thanks to the Infernalist’s life reservation, you are permanently below that threshold, with zero risk.
Why is this so powerful? Because the majority of the build’s big multipliers activate while low-life:
keystone Pain Attunement (+30% Critical Damage Bonus), Execute (+30% damage with hits while low-life), and many others. By being low-life at 75%, you benefit from these bonuses 100% of the time. Additional bonus: Coward’s Legacy regenerates life while you are low-life, which exactly compensates for the life loss from
Berserk — so you can keep it running continuously.
Stacking Critical Damage Bonus: The Snowball Effect
The build’s power comes from an accumulation of multiplicative multipliers (which multiply with each other) rather than additive ones. Let us run GL1TCH3D’s calculation: 1.5× from
notable Grinning Immolation, 1.3× from
keystone Pain Attunement, 1.3× from the support
Overextend, then 1.29× from the local Critical Damage Bonus on the martial weapon (a local modifier benefits from all global bonuses in the tree).
Stacked together, these multipliers push the Critical Damage Bonus beyond 3000%. With a well-equipped jewel unique The Adorned jewel, you can climb to 5500-6000%. And a support offering a chance to double critical damage can push the total up to 6000% effective bonus on a successful double critical. Note: if GGG removes
Overextend in 0.5,
Deliberation is a near-equivalent replacement.
Rage and Ignite Immunity
Two clusters at the bottom of the tree round out the picture. The first, around
notable Battle Trance, significantly increases maximum rage: going from 30 to 48 rage. Since rage is a damage multiplier (further boosted by
Berserk), this gain is far from trivial.
The second targets the Crystallized Immunities. Remember:
notable Grinning Immolation ignites us on every critical hit. The solution is elegant — we socket red gems into those nodes to become ignite immune. The ascendancy penalty simply no longer applies. We keep the +50% Critical Damage Bonus, with no downside whatsoever.
One Recipe, Every Martial Weapon
This is what makes this build unique: the passive tree stays nearly identical from one weapon to another, with only about ten points of difference. Playing with a quarterstaff? Head toward the
notable Martial Artistry nodes. Using a crossbow? Drop Throat Seeker (crossbow base crit is lower) and pick up the dedicated cluster. Projectile nodes are mainly useful for the bow.
Each weapon variant (spear, mace, crossbow, bow, quarterstaff) is available in the Mobalytics guide, updated for 0.5. The common trunk — Spirit, crit, Energy Shield, rage, ignite immunity — stays the same. You pick your preferred weapon, adjust a handful of points, and you’re done.

Merci
