Build Overview
Blood magic is back, and this time it comes with an unexpected weapon: the spear. This Blood Mage build centers on the new skill
Righteous Descent to annihilate bosses, while using
Explosive Spear to clear packs of monsters at full speed. The result? A gameplay described by its creator as « a simulator »: point the attack in front of you, move forward, and everything explodes in your wake as you pick up life regeneration nodes.
The core of the build rests on a devastatingly efficient mechanic: infinite Frenzy Charge generation. By repeatedly breaking enemy armor (thanks to
Blasphemy paired with
Vulnerability), the build triggers Endurance Charges which, via the keystone Resonance, convert into Frenzy Charges. The charge flow thus becomes nearly permanent, maintaining a consistent attack rate and movement speed.
Designed as an affordable starter build, it can already farm six-modifier Tier 15 maps without relying on expensive items. This is the first version of a project that will grow even stronger, but it is already perfectly viable to kick off your endgame progression.
Strengths / Weaknesses
✅ Strengths
- Exceptional Clear speed: with
Explosive Spear, you move in a straight line and everything explodes in front of you. - Infinite Frenzy Charges: near-permanent charge generation that maintains attack rate and movement speed.
- Massive single-target burst:
Righteous Descent reaches 100% critical strike chance via the
Snipers Mark +
Charge Regulation rotation. - Affordable starter build: capable of farming six-modifier Tier 15 maps.
- Works without chase items: the golden charm Spirit of the Wolf improves comfort, but is not required.
- Good mobility: fast movement thanks to the jewel
From Nothing and life regeneration nodes.
❌ Weaknesses
- Slightly fragile early in progression: with a basic body armour (~500 Energy Shield), you need to rely on life regeneration.
- Tricky weapon set management: never use
Righteous Descent right after
Explosive Spear, or you will lose the assigned passives. - Relies on a few specific items: the weapon that grants the skill and an additional Spirit source are essential.
- Avoid « armored » maps: the armor modifier significantly slows armor breaks and therefore charge generation.
Skill Gem Setup by Step
This build offers 3 progression variants (Cheaper endgame, expensive Endgame , 200% DELI version ). Choose a variant, then a step to see the corresponding skill gem setup.

The interactive grid below shows the build’s complete equipment, slot by slot. Here are the pieces to secure as a priority, as detailed in the video:
- Weapon (spear) : this is the centerpiece, as it is what grants the skill
Righteous Descent. A spear with a good roll was costing around 20 divine orbs on the market — an absolute must-have. - Weapon +3 Explosive Spear : a sceptre/weapon that adds levels to
Explosive Spear, to boost clearing damage (price varies widely depending on demand). - Off-hand weapon — Sacred Flame : the weapon set 2 weapon, which was costing around 20 divine orbs in the video. It completes the rotation and the passives of the second set.
- Helmet — Constricting Command : the helmet chosen on the planner. The key thing is to have extra Spirit to run all the auras and heralds in the build.
- Body armour — Atziris Splendour : a unique body armour with a high socket count. It is a key slot for survivability and socketing socketables; at the very start of progression, the creator was playing with a more modest piece (~500 Energy Shield).
- Belt — Mageblood : a high-end optimisation piece that automates and amplifies flask effects. It is an investment goal rather than a starting requirement.
- Charms — Rite of Passage & Nascent Hope : the two charms equipped on this version. Ultimately, the golden charm with Spirit of the Wolf remains the build’s chase item (armour break equal to 10% of the hit’s damage) : optional, but very comfortable for generating Frenzy Charges.
- Flask — Lavianga’s Spirits : the build’s unique flask, which supports resource management.
- Jewels : prioritise « magnitude of ailments », critical chance, elemental damage, and attack damage. The build notably uses a
From Nothing, as well as unique jewels such as Prism of Belief and Heart of the Well.
Gameplay Tips
- Clearing : use
Explosive Spear by aiming ahead of you and keep moving without stopping. The build is designed to pick up life regen nodes on the move. - Boss rotation : apply
Snipers Mark, hit with
Explosive Spear to generate your charges, reapply
Snipers Mark if needed, cast your block skill, then trigger
Righteous Descent for the 100% crit burst. - Skill order is crucial : never cast
Righteous Descent immediately after
Explosive Spear (see the dedicated weapon sets section below). - Avoid « armored » maps : the armour modifier on a waystone significantly slows down armour break. Set these maps aside for later, when your gear is better.
- Survivability : since the body armour is light early in the build, rely on the life regen nodes from the passive tree. Note that blood flasks no longer restore life (recent nerf), which is why Whispers of the Flesh is used.
- Progression : if you are coming from a bleed bow build, stick with it to farm your gear before switching over. This starter build becomes much smoother once the right items are in place.
The Blood Mage Ascendancy
As usual with this build, it leans on the Blood Mage Ascendancy. We pick up blood orbs and the bleed node, which provide a large amount of damage both for
Righteous Descent and for clearing. This is the foundation on which the final version of the build will rest, with a plan to apply bleed even more easily.
On the defensive side, we take Crimson Power. Since the body armour is light early in the build, it is mainly the life regen nodes that keep the character alive — they are naturally picked up while advancing through packs. Note: since the recent nerf, blood flasks no longer recover life. This is compensated by using Whispers of the Flesh, which reduces enemies’ life and life regen.
Infinite Frenzy Charge Generation
This is the crucial point of the build, and everything comes from the skills and support gems. The goal is to continuously break enemies’ armour to trigger charges. Several pieces contribute to this:
Ataluis Bloodletting (physical damage at no cost),
Uruks Smelting (+30% armour break at no cost),
Short Fuse II, as well as
Detonate Dead linked to
Cast on Critical, which deals physical damage equal to 7% of the corpses’ maximum life.
But the most important piece is
Blasphemy paired with
Vulnerability: this curse literally melts enemies’ armour, allowing you to break it in an instant. Once the armour is broken, endurance charges are generated normally; it is the Resonance keystone that converts them into Frenzy Charges. The flow then becomes stable and smooth. To make the generation even more consistent, the Spirit of the Wolf golden charm breaks armour equal to 10% of the hit’s damage, without even needing the physical damage component.
Weapon Set 1 & Set 2: The Mistake to Avoid
This is the most technically tricky point of the build.
Righteous Descent cannot be manually assigned to a specific weapon set: it automatically locks onto the last weapon set used. If you cast
Righteous Descent right after
Explosive Spear (which is on weapon set 1), it will end up on set 1 as well — and all the passives intended for weapon set 2 will no longer apply.
The solution is simple: assign a skill to weapon set 2 (for example the new block skill, which also grants block chance) and use it just before
Righteous Descent. This ensures you are on weapon set 2 when channelling your skill. The golden rule: never cast
Righteous Descent directly after
Explosive Spear. Switch manually with the X key, or interpose any set 2 skill (even
Snipers Mark).
The New Rune and Jewel Rotation
The build uses
Herald of Thunder, as it deals a lot of lightning damage. This herald is used to apply a series of ailments: poison, bleed, blind, and
Maim (via
Admixture). All of this feeds into an extremely powerful new rune: blinded, maimed, and bleeding targets can no longer evade your hits. Meanwhile, between Viper Cap, Spray and Pray, and constant movement, the build accumulates nearly 50% reduced accuracy. This rune cancels out that problem: you almost never miss a hit, and the difference is felt immediately.
For single-target, the rotation relies on
Snipers Mark: applied to a boss, it returns Power Charges via Resonance (instead of Frenzy Charges). Combined with
Charge Regulation, these Power Charges provide +25% critical strike chance, pushing
Righteous Descent to 100% guaranteed critical strikes. On the jewel side, you want magnitude of damaging ailments and critical strike chance. The build runs a
From Nothing (utility and movement speed), along with unique jewels such as Prism of Belief and Heart of the Well, rounded out by rare jewels targeting critical damage and ailment magnitude.
