Build Overview
This Huntress rabies werewolf build by Dr3adful, played under the Ritualist ascendancy, is a direct tribute to the famous Rabies Werewolf from Diablo II, reworked for Path of Exile 2’s mechanics. Transformed into a werewolf, the character deals massive poison damage via
Cross Slash, while relying on rage stacking to multiply its melee damage.
The distinctive feature of this build is the use of
Mings Heart, a unique ring that heavily reduces the character’s life and defenses in exchange for a massive bonus of damage converted to chaos (up to 185% additional chaos damage), duplicated onto the other ring slot thanks to
Kalandras Touch, which mirrors the opposite ring. The character thus gets the Ming’s Heart effect twice over, for the investment of a single unique ring. Traditionally suicidal, this strategy becomes viable thanks to the introduction of Ward, a new defensive mechanic that absorbs damage without being affected by the life reduction, allowing the build to stack up to 4000 Ward points.
The result is an extremely offensive character that obliterates packs of enemies thanks to poison spread via
Bursting Plague and
Herald of Plague, while remaining relatively affordable compared to the author’s other builds.
Strengths / Weaknesses
✅ Strengths
- Massive, instant poison damage (no ramp-up phase) thanks to rage stacking
- Very fast clear speed thanks to the spread via
Bursting Plague and
Herald of Plague - Original defensive system (Ward stacking) that bypasses the life loss from
Mings Heart - Relatively affordable build compared to the author’s other builds (no Mageblood)
- Smooth and satisfying gameplay, combo
Cross Slash + Pounce - Good stun resistance thanks to the Ritualist ascendancy
❌ Weaknesses
- Very low base life (455 HP) — vulnerable despite the Ward
Berserk can kill the player if life regeneration isn’t sufficient- Doesn’t benefit from the rarity bonus typical of the Ritualist ascendancy (ring slots taken by
Mings Heart) - Requires an amulet with
Eternal Rage, which is rather expensive

Set 1
11 skills • 38 gemmesRecommended Equipment
- Rings (x2):
Mings Heart (reduces life and defenses for a massive damage bonus converted to chaos) +
Kalandras Touch which duplicates its effect onto the other ring - Chest:
The Brass Dome with rampart, to kickstart Ward stacking - Amulet: absolutely requires
Eternal Rage to continuously sustain rage stacking - Weapon: crafted claws — the most expensive piece of the build (around 200 divines)
- Accessory (flask):
Olroths Resolve, converts excess life recovery into Guard — near-instant given our low life pool - Link gem (main skill):
Voranas Siege, replaceable by any other meta gem - Alternative: gloves converting elemental damage to poison, to replace Ming’s Heart
Gameplay Tips
- Flat life regeneration: always equip two regeneration slots on your gear to counter the degeneration from
Berserk — without it, the spell can kill the player - Massive Shrines: never pick them up — the base life bonus they grant is multiplied by
Berserk‘s degeneration and can be fatal - Rotation: use
Cross Slash to mark and poison enemies in melee, then let poison spread do the rest of the clearing - Stuns: Ward does not protect against stuns — rely on mana-based charms to stay nearly invulnerable
- Farming: prioritize catalysts over rarity, since the build sacrifices its Ritualist bonus for the double effect of
Mings Heart
Ward Stacking: Working Around the Rabies Werewolf Huntress Build’s Fragility
Introduced this season, Ward is the defensive mechanic that makes this build viable despite the massive loss of life and defenses caused by the double effect of
Mings Heart. Unlike energy shield, Ward is not affected by the life reduction from the unique ring. By combining
The Brass Dome with several pieces of gear rolled with rampart, the build reaches a base of 2700 Ward, boosted to around 4000 thanks to
Remnants of Kalguur, which regenerates 5% of rampart per second.
Olroths Resolve completes the setup: this unique life flask converts excess life recovery into Guard, and with our low life pool, it fills up almost instantly — a constant safety net in the rhythm of an ARPG.
Watch Out for Berserk: The Degen That Can Kill You
Berserk deals huge damage, but applies a degeneration based on the character’s rage — and this degeneration is NOT absorbed by Ward. Without enough life regeneration, this skill can literally kill the player. The rule is simple: always equip two flat life regeneration slots on your gear, to exceed the degeneration threshold even on a map with a recovery malus. Another trap to absolutely avoid: picking up a massive Sanctuary buff, which increases the character’s base life and therefore, mechanically, the degeneration dealt by
Berserk — a combination that can be fatal.
Rage Stacking and Poison Damage Scaling
The character stacks up to 70 rage points while transformed thanks to the
notable Mystical Rage and
notable Bestial Rage nodes, which convert rage into a percentage of melee damage. Since this build’s skill tree is very limited, rage stacking becomes the main source of scaling. Combined with
Tacatis Ire, which speeds up the poison reapplication frequency, damage is applied almost instantly from the start of combat, with no ramp-up phase — a clear advantage for map clearing.
Alternative Without Ming’s Heart: Poison Gloves
Although this build uses the double effect of
Mings Heart as its main damage source, the author mentions a viable alternative: replacing the rings with gloves that convert elemental damage into poison, which allows stacking more additional elemental damage while keeping the same Huntress rabies werewolf build archetype based on poison and wolf transformation.
