Tuesday, October 20 is the date going around for the opening of the Diablo 4 Season 16 PTR (the public test realm, where Blizzard lets players try a season before it launches). As of October 18, Blizzard has not announced it anywhere. The game's last official sign of life is patch 3.2.3, which fixed the seasonal quest this week. October 20 rests on a calendar calculation, solid but not official.
Where the October 20 Date Comes From
It comes from an article by Infinity Builds, written by Neviriah and published on October 11, titled “Le PTR de la Saison 16 de Diablo 4 pourrait ouvrir dès le 20 octobre” (The Diablo 4 Season 16 PTR could open as early as October 20). Its reasoning fits in one line: the last two PTRs opened on a Tuesday, four to six weeks before the season launched.

The schedule of the last two seasons confirms the pattern.
| Season | PTR opening | Launch | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Season 14 | Tuesday, June 2 (PTR 3.1.0) | June 30 | 4 weeks |
| Season 15 | Tuesday, August 4 (PTR 3.2.0) | September 15 | 6 weeks |
PTR 3.2.0 lasted one week, from August 4 to 11, on PC only. We published all of its notes at the time. Two examples do not make a rule, and Blizzard has never said it follows a fixed delay.
December 1, the Date the Reliquary Gives Away
To know when the PTR lands, you first need a launch date. Game8, in a page updated on October 13, expects Season 16 on December 1, 2026 at the earliest, or in the first week of December. The deduction rests on the expiration date of the Season 15 Reliquary (the seasonal battle pass), at the end of November.

It is the method we used to date Season 15 in August: the game shows the end of the current pass before Blizzard announces the next season. Combined with the PTR pattern, it gives a precise window. With a season launching on December 1, a four-week gap puts the PTR on Tuesday, November 3, and a six-week gap on Tuesday, October 20. October 20 is therefore the earliest date in the window, not the most likely.
What Blizzard Confirmed at BlizzCon
Blizzard has only confirmed that Season 16 exists. During the panel on the future of Diablo 4 at BlizzCon 2026, shortly after the Diablo 5 announcement, the team confirmed that development would continue after Season 15 and that several seasons were already planned. Blizzard Watch summed it up on September 14, in a piece by Phil Xavier: “while we don't yet have confirmation of what specific things Season 16 will have, we know that it'll exist”.

The panel also gave a horizon: the season arc is to unfold “over the next year, leading up to the release of the Amazon”, the class already announced. No title, no theme and no seasonal mechanic has been given for this season.
What the Game Files Reveal So Far
Those digging through the files have not found much more. D4Guides went through patch 3.2.1 on September 21 (article by eRnstl). The only new elements named “Season 16” are nine halo effects for the leaderboards: five tiers, one light and three particle effects. The site describes them as cosmetics still in progress. The ranks and titles for Seasons 16, 17 and 18 already existed, as empty shells.

The same patch contains a full five-floor dungeon, “A Journey Through the Past”, codenamed Jakarta. D4Guides describes a nostalgic boss run, narrated by Deckard Cain, with a burning Tristram as the waiting room:
- floor 1: Belial;
- floor 2: an echo of Mephisto, in the Durance of Hate;
- floor 3: an echo of Baal, in the Worldstone Keep, with a three-wave event;
- floor 4: an echo of Diablo, in his lair;
- floor 5: Moophisto, the cow boss of the community challenge, active until September 14.
A developer menu holds one level 40 character per class, and each boss room has its own repair anvil. D4Guides sees a demo built for the BlizzCon booths. The site itself warns: “None of this is an announcement.”
This dungeon is therefore not a clue about the next season, and nothing in patch 3.2.1 dates its PTR. If Blizzard follows its 2026 rhythm, the answer will come on a Tuesday between October 20 and November 3.
