The studio behind Darksiders Genesis and Battle Chasers is asking for €214,322 on Kickstarter to fund its next game. With a month left before the deadline, it has raised just over a fifth of that. Dust Origins nonetheless made its video debut at gamescom’s Opening Night Live on August 25.
Here’s what the game offers, and why its campaign is worth watching closely.
Dust Origins Was Revealed in June, Shown in August

The distinction matters, because most gamescom recaps file this title among the evening’s announcements. Airship Syndicate actually unveiled the game on June 26, 2026, promising a funding campaign to come. What the Cologne stage delivered on August 25 was the first gameplay demonstration, shown in isometric view.
What the video shows: a top-down shooter, character classes ranging from a fast, light profile to a colossus wielding a mini-gun, and an industrial horror atmosphere. The studio is based in Austin, Texas, and co-founder Joe Madureira made no secret of the break: « After years spent bringing beloved fantasy worlds to life, our team is pouring everything into a sci fi setting that’s darker, meaner, and unlike anything we’ve made before. »
Limbo-6, an Escape Gone Wrong
The setting fits in one sentence: Limbo-6, an orbital processing platform circling above Dros, a prison planet. You play as a small group of inmates as the station falls apart.
From there, you have to get out alive, fighting both guards and creatures. The game promises a branching narrative where choices carry weight, with multiple possible paths and multiple endings.
On top of that come inventory and weapon management, crafting, and character customization as you progress through the station.

The campaign page sums up the intent in one blunt line: « In this dark and immersive isometric action title, there are no saints – only survivors. Actions have consequences. »
An Established Studio Turns Back to Crowdfunding

- Amount raised
- €47,537
- Goal
- €214,322
- Progress
- 22%
- Backers
- 667
- Time left
- 29 days
- Ends
- September 24, 2026
The striking figure isn’t the amount requested, it’s the ratio between the two. Airship Syndicate signed Darksiders Genesis with THQ Nordic and Ruined King with Riot Forge: this isn’t an unknown studio trying its luck. And it has 29 days left to find 78% of its goal, under all-or-nothing funding, where missing the deadline cancels every pledge made.
Dust Origins carries Kickstarter’s « Project We Love » badge, an editorial distinction from the platform, and 667 people have already backed it. The bar remains high.
What’s Still Missing
No release date, no window, no platform list. The game can only be wishlisted on Steam, which hints at a PC release first, though the studio hasn’t confirmed it.
Nothing either on the number of co-op players, even though the video shows a group of inmates, nor on how long a playthrough lasts or how many endings are actually written.
The date to remember is therefore September 24. It will decide whether this project exists at all.

The rest of the evening’s announcements moved forward with firm dates, from the Opening Night Live lineup to the releases listed in our calendar through December. Dust Origins, meanwhile, is moving forward on a countdown.
