The WoW Midnight 12.1 patch, dubbed Curse of Ula’tek, launched on August 11, 2026. It set the stage: Coiled Isle, a story campaign, and a UI overhaul. We already covered that topic in our article on Patch 12.1 and Coiled Isle. This one is about something else: what the season adds a week later.

On August 18, 2026, Season 2 begins. It brings a raid, a new Mythic+ dungeon rotation, a rated PvP season, and a reset Great Vault. The patch set the stage, the season opens the competition.

August 18, One Week After the Patch

Two dates matter for WoW Midnight this August. On August 11, Patch 12.1 opened Coiled Isle, off the coast of Zul’Aman, with its story campaign, Lairs, a new encounter type, three new delves, and a housing and UI overhaul. On August 18, seven days later, Season 2 takes over with its own content.

This distinction matters for planning your week. The patch changes the world you explore, the season changes what you chase. The table below separates the two milestones.

Venomous Abyss: 8 Bosses Up to Ula’tek

Season 2’s raid is called Venomous Abyss. It features eight bosses. The final encounter pits players against Ula’tek, the name behind Patch 12.1’s title.

Normal and Heroic difficulties open first, on August 18, alongside the rest of the season. The raid therefore marks the starting point of the ranked race for guilds progressing through increasing difficulties.

Mythic+, PvP, and the Two Mounts to Earn

August 18 also launches a new dungeon pool for Mythic+ (dungeons with increasing difficulty, timed, with a rating that climbs as you succeed). A new rated PvP season begins the same day, with its own leaderboard.

The Great Vault (a weekly chest whose contents depend on what you accomplished during the week) also resets for this Season 2. What it contains will depend on the raid, Mythic+, and PvP played over the previous seven days.

Two mounts reward progress on the rating (the score that tracks a player’s advancement in the season’s ladder). Breath of Blight is earned around a rating of 2,000. Breath of Ruin requires roughly 3,000, a tier reserved for the most dedicated Mythic+ or rated PvP players.
