Build Overview
This Oracle Druid build combines the power of Mjölnir with
Resonating Shield to create a hybrid melee/lightning playstyle capable of handling both mapping and bossing. The core idea revolves around Weapon Swap: set 1 uses
Resonating Shield for map clearing with
Arc triggered automatically by Mjölnir, while set 2 deploys
Shield Wall with Nebulock to deal massive damage to Bosses thanks to the guaranteed critical strikes from the Oracle ascendancy.
The build exploits
Chaos Inoculation to rely entirely on energy shield for protection, which eliminates the heavy stun gauge problem when using
Resonating Shield.
Cast on Critical triggers
Snap and
Lightning Warp for additional clear, while
Lightning Bolt via
Choir of the Storm adds a layer of lightning damage that chain-clears remaining mobs.
Note: this build is rated intermediate to advanced by its creator. It involves many mechanical interactions that must all work together. If one piece is missing, the whole thing can fall apart. Playing with WASD or a controller is recommended, as click-to-move makes
Rend
Resonating Shield feel very choppy.
Build Strengths
- Solid clear speed:
Arc via Mjölnir chains between enemies,
Lightning Bolt from
Choir of the Storm clears remaining packs, and
Herald of Ash spreads overkill damage. Combined, these create smooth and efficient map clearing. - Strong bossing with Shield Wall: Swapping to set 2 with Nebulock and
Shield Wall enables guaranteed critical strikes thanks to the Oracle ascendancy.
Endurance charges generated by
Resonating Shield fuel
Shield Wall explosions. - Robust defenses via Chaos Inoculation: Energy shield is the sole defense, but the constant blocking from
Resonating Shield and the absence of a heavy stun gauge (thanks to CI) make the build very resilient during mapping. - 3-charge system:
Charge Regulation activates all three charge types simultaneously during mapping, providing 27% additional critical strike chance, 20% more defenses, and skill speed.
Build Weaknesses
- High complexity: Many mechanical interactions (Weapon Swap, 3 charges,
Cast on Critical,
Snap infusions) must all work together. If one element is missing, the build loses effectiveness significantly. - Not a leveling build: This build is designed for endgame. It requires
The Vertex +3, Mjölnir,
Choir of the Storm, and other specific uniques to function properly. - Limited energy shield recovery:
Resonating Shield does not restore much energy shield because its physical damage is low with all the supports. You need to place
Shield Wall and detonate it to recover quickly after a big hit. - Incompatible with click-to-move: The stop-and-go gameplay of
Resonating Shield in click-to-move makes
Rend feel very choppy. WASD or controller is strongly recommended.
Gem Setup by Step
This build offers 2 progression steps from leveling to the final build. Select a step to see the corresponding gem setup.
Entry Level
10 skills • 45 gemsHigh Level
10 skills • 45 gemsRecommended Equipment
- Weapon (Set 1) : Mjölnir with at least 2 sockets. Recommended runes are chaos for added damage and damage for all elements. A corrupted exceptional Mjölnir is ideal but not required to get started.
- Weapon (Set 2) : Nebulock to guarantee critical strikes on
Shield Wall. It consumes
Endurance charges generated by
Resonating Shield to trigger automatic rapid strikes. - Helmet :
The Vertex with +3 to the level of socketed gems (minimum required). Look for a copy with the « equipment has no Attribute requirements » line to make allocating strength into energy shield easier. - Amulet :
Choir of the Storm with level 20
Lightning Bolt (level 19 works but clear is reduced). This is the main source of extra clear on maps. - Shield : A rare shield with at least 1200 armour value. This is the minimum for the interaction with
Resonating Shield to work correctly. - Rings :
Ming’s Heart Amethyst Ring for 48% added chaos damage. The 30% penalty to global defences is mitigated by the fact that you only lose energy shield. A rare ring with resistances and life/mana leech completes the setup. - Belt :
Darkness Enthroned for abyss jewels, or
Headhunter for advanced mapping. Don’t overpay for a 100% Darkness — a near-roll is sufficient. - Gloves : Rare with the +1 to level of melee skill gems corruption (optional). Otherwise, prioritise resistances.
- Boots : Rare with resistances and movement speed.
- Timeless Jewel : Heroic Tragedy (Verona) to convert the keystone into Black Scythe Training (strength applies to energy shield). Prioritise jumps to Natural Energy (40% energy shield).
Gameplay Tips
- Mapping with Resonating Shield : Hold
Resonating Shield down while moving.
Arc triggers automatically via Mjölnir, and
Lightning Bolt clears remaining enemies. Use
Leap Slam to reposition quickly. - Bossing with Shield Wall : Wait until you have an
Endurance charge (generated by
Resonating Shield), then place
Shield Wall and detonate it with a right-click (
Resonating Shield).
Lightning Bolt also helps detonate the shield wall. - Energy shield restoration : After a big hit, immediately place
Shield Wall and detonate it. This is the primary healing method. Natural energy shield regeneration activates when you block passively. - Charge Regulation on bosses : Disable
Charge Regulation during pinnacle bosses (such as Uber Arbiter) to avoid losing your
Endurance charges intended for
Shield Wall. - Check Lightning Bolt shocks : In the in-game stats menu, verify that the estimated
Electrocution percentage is at least 55–60% for the interaction between
Electromagnetism and
Static Shocks to function reliably.
How the Weapon Swap Works
The Weapon Swap system is at the heart of this build. Set 1 contains
Resonating Shield,
Leap Slam,
Cast on Critical and the spirit gems (
Charge Regulation,
Combat Frenzy). Set 2 contains
Shield Wall,
Wolf Pack,
Herald of Ash and Nebulock. Some gems such as
Charge Regulation and
Combat Frenzy are assigned to both sets to remain permanently active.
In practice, you stay on Set 1 for daily mapping.
Resonating Shield strikes in an area around you, triggering
Arc via Mjölnir and generating charges. When you reach a boss or a resistant rare, you swap to Set 2, wait for an
Endurance charge, place
Shield Wall, then switch back to Set 1 to detonate it with
Resonating Shield. The
Lightning Bolts from
Choir of the Storm also contribute to the detonation.
Arc, Snap and Infusion Interactions
The
Cast on Critical setup does not trigger Cast on
Comet as many believe. It is indeed
Cast on Critical, which allows other spells besides
Comet to be used. Here,
Snap is the key element: when an enemy is
Electrocuted (which happens constantly via
Arc and
Lightning Bolt),
Snap consumes that
Electrocution and spreads an additional lightning effect.
But the real value of
Snap is the
Infusion it generates. When
Arc benefits from this
Infusion, it deals 200% added damage. On maps, infusions are almost always active thanks to the frequency of electrocutions, making
Arc a far more significant damage source than it first appears.
Lightning Warp is the first spell in the
Cast on Critical chain. It teleports you toward dying enemies, accelerating the
Flow of the map. It is not as powerful a setup as some
Ball Lightning setups, but it is reliable and consistent with the melee style of the build.
Chaos Inoculation and Survivability
Chaos Inoculation is a cornerstone of this build. By removing your life to keep only energy shield, you gain an unexpected advantage: the heavy stun gauge no longer fills when using
Resonating Shield. This is potentially a bug or oversight, but it is extremely powerful for a melee build.
Strength is converted into energy shield thanks to the Black Scythe Training keystone (obtained via the Heroic Tragedy jewel from Verona). Ming’s Heart penalises global defences by 30%, but this only costs the equivalent of about 2 passive energy shield nodes, in exchange for 48% added chaos damage.
If
Chaos Inoculation were to be fixed regarding the stun gauge, the build would remain functional. You would simply need to invest more passive points into the stun threshold and monitor the gauge at the bottom left of the screen during mapping.
Heroic Tragedy and Timeless Jewels
The Heroic Tragedy jewel from Verona is placed in a strategic location on the passive tree where it randomly modifies adjacent nodes. The best outcomes to look for are Natural Energy nodes, each offering 40% maximum energy shield.
There is no timeless jewel calculator for PoE 2, and it is unlikely one will ever exist. The method recommended by the creator is to buy several copies, test them on your passive tree, then resell those that don’t fit at a slightly lower price. Alternatively, you can use Divine Orbs to reroll the seed of an existing jewel.
Depending on your jewel, you will need to adapt your pathing in the passive tree. For example, if you get an Attack Speed node from the jewel, you can remove attack speed points elsewhere and reinvest them into energy shield. This is an optimisation that requires thought but can significantly improve the build.
Budget Version and Progression
The main barrier to entry is
The Vertex +3, which costs between 58 and 65 Divine Orbs. Beyond that, Mjölnir with 2 sockets is accessible, Ming’s Heart is very inexpensive, and a level 19
Choir of the Storm works well even if clear is slightly reduced.
The budget version does not use
Headhunter and makes do with a 1200 armour shield and a mid-quality Verona jewel. The creator demonstrates in the video that this configuration handles tier 16 maps without difficulty, including map bosses.
To push the build further, the most impactful upgrades would be a Vertex +4, a Prism of Belief, an Odder Splendour, and a better Heroic Tragedy jewel with more Natural Energy nodes. These items are extremely rare and expensive, but they represent the theoretical power ceiling of the build.
