Build Overview
This Chaos Djinns build leverages the Disciple of Varashta Ascendancy to convert 140% of physical damage into additional chaos damage. The star of the show is Kelari’s Deception, the Sand Djinn, whose tornadoes deal massive damage while applying Wither to enemies.
The gameplay is remarkably straightforward: right-click for the main attack, Q for Kelari’s Deception (single target), and W for the trap. That’s it. While you sprint through maps, your Djinns do all the work. The author notes that this build is exactly what he envisioned for a « pure Djinns » setup – and it performs even better than expected.
The Disciple of Varashta Ascendancy is described as « broken » by the author. Even without running Djinns, it remains extremely powerful. If left unnerfed, this build could become meta for upcoming leagues.
Build Strengths
- Ultra-fast Mapping: You sprint constantly while the Djinns handle everything. The only downtime is waiting for mobs to spawn.
- Giga Tanky: With Chaos Inoculation, 10k+ ES, and 71% physical damage reduction from the Ascendancy, you almost never die.
- Simple Gameplay: Only 2-3 buttons to press. Right-click, Q, and sometimes W for traps. Pain Offering only on bosses.
- Budget Friendly: The budget version with 9k ES and without the most expensive pieces remains highly effective.
Build Weaknesses
- Vulnerable to Elemental Damage: The only real weakness. With 14k ES you can absorb hits, but heavy elemental slams can still hurt.
- Fire Djinn Suboptimal: The author advises against the Fire Djinn, whose skills want different setups and don’t synergize well with this build.
Gem Setup by Stage
This build offers 2 progression stages from leveling to the final build. Select a stage to see the corresponding gem setup.
Budget
14 skills • 55 gemmesEndgame My Gear
14 skills • 55 gemmesRecommended Equipment
- Rings: Evergrasping Ring (25-30% extra chaos each). No need for the max roll at 35%. You can use Chula quality to push from 25% to 30%.
- Belt: Kurgal’s Leash (30% extra chaos). You can only wear one.
- Sceptre: +4 gem levels minimum (the +5 costs 20 divines for a single level). Spirit to get 7% extra minions.
- Shield: +2 levels with a large amount of ES. The author paid 6 divines for a +2 with 360 ES.
- Amulet: +3 levels with Spirit. Anoint Energy Shield Recharge Rate.
- Helmet: +2 levels with high ES. Try to cap your resistances here.
- Gloves/Boots: ES and 35% reduced movement speed penalty. Allows you to cast while moving quickly.
- Body Armour: Zafire if possible (40% extra fire). Energy Shield Recharge Rate recommended.
Gameplay Tips
- Mapping: Sprint constantly with right-click + Q. The tornadoes from Kelari’s Deception handle the clear. No need for Pain Offering in maps.
- Bossing: Open with Tornado, activate Pain Offering, then alternate right-click and Q (Kelari’s Deception). Use Shattering Roar for the Intimidate (+10% more damage).
- Kelari’s Deception Stacking: This skill deals 50% more damage per previous use. By staggering perfectly, you can maintain a stack of 3 or more.
- Pain Offering: Use Brutus’ Brain so the Sacrifice doesn’t take damage during bossing.
- CI Transition: Switch to Chaos Inoculation around level 70 with at least 4k ES minimum.
- Leveling: Pick up Sand Djinn first, then Kelari’s Deception, then the trap. Pick up ES wheels on the tree.
How to Reach 140% Extra Chaos
Chaos damage conversion is the core of this build. Here is how we reach 140% of physical converted to chaos:
- Evergrasping Ring x2: 30% each (with Chula quality) = 60%
- Kurgal’s Leash: 30%
- Skill Tree: 10%
- Sanjin (Fire Djinn): 40% (optional, replaceable)
The Evergrasping Rings with the « allies in your presence » mod work well because Djinns count as being « in your presence ». The author tested and confirmed this works.
Build Defense: 71% Physical Damage Reduction
The Disciple of Varashta Ascendancy provides physical damage reduction based on your Energy Shield. The calculation is complex, but with 10k ES you get approximately 71% reduction against small hits.
Note: this reduction works like in PoE 1. It is excellent against small hits but a boss slam can still deal 8000 damage. The true defense comes from high ES (10-14k) combined with a strong recharge rate (4000/second).
For ES recharge, the author recommends anointing Energy Shield Recharge Rate on the amulet and picking up the corresponding nodes on the tree. With that, after a dodge roll, you already regenerate 4000 ES.
Skill Tree and Ascendancies
The tree is very flexible. The only mandatory nodes are:
- Extra Chaos Wheel: 10% physical to chaos
- Crit Wheel: For the Djinns’ Crit Weakness
- Minion Nodes: The basics for summon damage
The rest is up to you. You can path toward jewel sockets, run strength stacking with ES, or anything else. No need to take resurrection or HP nodes since we are CI.
For the Ascendancy, take in this order: Sand Djinn > Kelari’s Deception > Trap. Then the ES nodes. Transition to CI around level 70 with a minimum of 4k ES and at least one full ES wheel.
Budget vs Endgame Version
The budget version drops the +2 shield, the Zafire body armour, and the +3 amulet. You go from roughly 14k ES to 9k ES but the build remains very functional.
Main changes in the budget version:
- Support gems: Elemental Focus instead of Xoph’s Pyre on Ruzhan. Heft instead of Uul-Netol’s Embrace on Kelari’s Deception.
- Sceptre: A +3 with Spirit is more than enough to get started.
- Shield: Any shield with ES. The +2 is not essential.
The author demonstrated a +4 difficulty map in budget gear and bosses still die quickly. The damage is « way higher than expected » in his own words.
