Ten yards. That is the range of the Protection Paladin’s taunt in WoW Forever, against five yards for the Druid’s Growl and the Warrior’s Taunt. Blizzard says so plainly in its latest Class Deep Dive, the Paladin one, published on October 15. Our September 26 article already listed the spells and talents of the WoW Forever Paladin. This one adds what the developers say about them: why each piece is there, and what role they expect from each specialization.

Judgement keeps the Seal, and Seal Twisting changes place

First fact from Blizzard about the WoW Forever Paladin: Judgement no longer consumes the active Seal. In Classic, Seal Twisting (swapping Seals to stack the effects of two of them by exploiting latency) existed baseline. Blizzard states that this functionality no longer exists by default. It comes back in another form: the 31-point talent Twist of Light, on the Retribution side.

Twist of Light reduces the mana cost of Seals by 20%. When you replace a damage-dealing Seal, it leaves an Echo: your next melee attack benefits from the replaced Seal and the active one. The developers want a version that is « more intuitive and less stringent on timing windows ». They also warn that mana will not last forever: Judgement of Wisdom and the Holy talent Reverence help sustain the pace.

Another detail from the text: Holy Shock sits on the same tier as this option, as an alternative. Picking one means giving up the other.

WoW Forever Paladin Holy: Holy Shock at 10 seconds, the « Shockadin » embraced

For the Holy specialization, Blizzard moves Holy Shock from the 31-point talent down to the 21-point one, and its cooldown drops from 30 to 10 seconds. The stated reason: open up hybrid « Shockadin » builds (a Paladin mixing Holy talents and damage) while reinforcing the main healer role.

The rest of the tree follows that logic. Divine Precision gives up to 18% hit chance with Holy spells, because Blizzard plans no Plate healing gear with hit rating. Infusion of Light cuts the next Holy Light by one second after a critical hit: the developers want to stop the Paladin from spamming Flash of Light, without touching its strength in single-target healing. Illumination now refunds 50% of the base cost, because the effect was historically too strong and scaled out of control.

Light’s Vigil, a 31-point talent, is the centerpiece: cast on an ally, it heals their whole party and allows a Holy Shock without cooldown; cast on an enemy, it refunds 75% of its mana cost. Blizzard describes the ideal use: set the Vigil on several raid parties, then chain Holy Shocks when the whole raid takes damage. The text admits it is harder to use reactively, because the setup is heavy.

Protection: a 10-yard taunt and a shield worth 100% of your health

Seal of Fury, learned at level 10, has three components: constant Holy damage on each swing (hence the value of a fast weapon), an absorption shield equal to 50% of that damage, and a Judgement that strikes and taunts. Because the taunt goes through Judgement, it reaches 10 yards. Blizzard sees it as a unique ability to reach enemies farther away than other tanks can.

Templar’s Bulwark, a 21-point talent, grants a shield equal to 100% of maximum health for 8 seconds, with a 5-minute cooldown. It applies Forbearance: it cannot be used while that effect is active. Swift Judgement, at 16 points, finishes the cooldown of Judgement and makes the next one free, to recover from a resisted taunt or to taunt several targets fast.

On threat, Consecration is learned at level 20 and hits hard only the first 4 enemies to enter the area. The team cites the Warrior’s Thunder Clap as the parity reference and wants to preserve the Classic Era combat feel, without sliding toward area-focused play. Blizzard also notes that Reckoning does not accumulate its 4 charges and promises a fix: the October 15 build put it back in its Classic Era state.

Retribution: shared Judgements and a talent that keeps moving

In Retribution, Sacred Arbiter does the teamwork: it refreshes all Judgements on the target, even those placed by other Paladins. Blizzard praises the raid value: keeping Judgement of Wisdom, of Light and of the Crusader up together. Vengeance becomes more consistent: 30 seconds of duration, up to 3 stacks of 3%, against 15% for 8 seconds before, an effect the developers call unreliable.

The most unstable case is Champion of the Light. Blizzard’s text says the talent gave 100% of Intellect as spell damage early in the beta, then 60%, with the effect limited to offensive spells so Holy Paladins do not abandon their talents. But the tooltip on the same page reads « up to 30% », and the official October 15 notes confirm 10/20/30% instead of 20/40/60%. According to a community tracking site, another unannounced fix would have touched this talent again on October 16. We could not cross-check it: no figure here.

Warcraft Tavern article by Luxrah on the Paladin Deep Dive, summarizing the end of baseline Seal Twisting, Twist of Light and the Shockadin style
Warcraft Tavern, Luxrah, October 15, 2026: the relay summarizing the end of baseline Seal Twisting and the Shockadin style.

What the end of Seal Twisting changes in PvP

For WoW Forever Paladin Seal Twisting, the constraint changes nature: swapping Seals is no longer played on swing timing, it is paid in mana. In PvP (player versus player) that cost matters, since Blizzard reminds us a Paladin has no interrupt and no slow. Our reading: Retribution should play Twist of Light in bursts, and the Shockadin should attract players who do not want to manage Seals. Our take on the nine classes notes that Retribution was over-represented at the Forever Open, the level 30 beta tournament.

On the Protection side, everything the Deep Dive describes targets monsters and bosses: taunt, threat, raid shield. Nothing says how Judgement behaves against a player. What matters for PvP is elsewhere: Voice of Truth protects for 6 seconds from silences and interrupts, with a 3-minute cooldown; Unyielding Faith shortens the duration of fears; Lay on Hands drops to a 20-minute cooldown. On these three points, Holy benefits more than Protection.
