WoW Forever Beta: September 24 2026 development notes
Beta development notes BETA deployed on the beta realm on September 24, 2026 Source: official WoW Forever notes (Wowhead)

Blizzard just shipped the first big rebalance pass of the WoW Forever beta, and it doesn’t hold back: all nine playable classes get at least one adjustment, ranging from simple reliability fixes (heals and DoTs that simply could not crit) to deeper reworks like Feral Druid’s Mangle being renamed Primal Bite. Two cross-class additions come along for the ride: a customizable Cooldown Manager and new flyout menus for gamepad play.

As always on WoW Forever, anything touching talent balance shows up first on the talent calculator before it ever reaches the live realms.

How to read this article

▲BuffThe class gains power, range, survivability, or comfort.
▼NerfA value goes down, an option disappears, or becomes more costly.
◆Neutral or reworkAn effect changes in nature, without an obvious gain or loss.
Warrior (Warrior)

Warrior(Warrior)

Balanced

Sunder Armor (Sunder Armor) gets its threat values corrected at every rank, with a small extra bonus from Attack Power. Arms gets more consistent procs on Slam (Slam) but pays for it elsewhere: its base cooldown climbs from 15 to 18 seconds, partly offset by a reworked Improved talent. Protection mostly gets a reordering of its talent tree rather than a real power gain.

What goes up

  • ▲Sunder Armor (Sunder Armor): corrected the threat values on all ranks, including a small increase to threat generated from Attack Power.Modified
  • ▲Bloodthrill (Arms, two-handed weapons): chance to activate doubled to 4/8/12/16/20% (was 2/4/6/8/10%).Modified
  • ▲Improved Slam: now reduces the cooldown of Slam by 1.5/3 seconds, offsetting the longer base cooldown.Modified

What goes down

  • ▼Bloodthrill: only activates off of Main Hand melee attacks now (this still includes Cleave (Cleave) and Heroic Strike (Heroic Strike)).Modified
  • ▼Slam (Slam): base cooldown increased from 15 to 18 seconds.Modified

Reworks and comfort

  • ◆Protection: swapped the positions of the Bastion (Row 5) and Focused Rage (Row 6) talents: Blizzard wants to give Focused Rage sooner to smooth out progression before Shield Slam.Modified

Paladin (Paladin)

Paladin(Paladin)

Net buff

This is the most heavily touched class in this patch. Holy Strike (Holy Strike) gains damage at every rank and its cooldown drops in the Holy tree, while Improved Holy Strike is removed from the talent tree and made baseline, and Paladins get a talent point back for free. Vengeance takes a real cut in exchange: its max stacks drop from 5 to 3, and Two-Handed Weapon Specialization loses some of its damage push.

What goes up

  • ▲Retribution Aura (Retribution Aura): will now dynamically update its values based on the caster’s spell power.Modified
  • ▲Holy Strike (Holy Strike): percent of weapon damage per rank raised to 25/29/32/36/39/43/46/50% (was 25/25/30/30/35/35/40/40%).Modified
  • ▲Holy: Holy Strike‘s cooldown lowered to 10 seconds (was 12 seconds).Modified
  • ▲Improved Holy Strike: removed from the Talent Tree and made baseline, the freed talent point can be spent elsewhere.Modified
  • ▲Holy Power: now also increases the Critical Strike chance of Holy Strike by 15%, retaining all of its old effects.Modified
  • ▲Retribution: Sacred Arbiter now increases the damage of Holy Strike by 20% (was 10%).Modified
  • ▲Twist of Light: now additionally reduces the Mana cost of your Seal spells by 20%.Modified

What goes down

  • ▼Righteous Fury (Righteous Fury): Holy threat increase lowered to 60% (was 90%).Modified
  • ▼Vengeance: maximum stacks lowered to 3 (was 5).Modified
  • ▼Two-Handed Weapon Specialization: damage increase reduced to 2/4/6% (was 3/6/9%).Modified
  • ▼Echo of Justice: fixed a bug causing it to have a higher than intended chance to activate.Modified

Reworks and comfort

  • ◆Vengeance: now activates off of non-periodic critical strikes instead of all critical strikes.Modified
  • ◆Several fixes to Consecration (Consecration): it now applies its increased damage effect to targets that used to dodge it, its Z axis is stable, and it can no longer pull targets vertically above or below the caster.Modified
  • ◆Fixed a bug causing the Flash of Light (Flash of Light) cast animation to not play at the end of the spell cast.
  • ◆Light’s Vigil (Light’s Vigil)’s tooltip has been reorganized to make it clearer that only the damage component returns some of the Mana cost.

Hunter (Hunter)

Hunter(Hunter)

Net buff

Three reliability fixes (Survival and Marksmanship) outweigh a single real nerf on the pet side: Furious Howl’s Attack Power bonus drops 40%, but Lone Wolf no longer unfairly punishes Hunters who talent out of it, and Tame Beast (Tame Beast) now correctly refuses Beasts above the Hunter’s level.

What goes up

  • ▲Sonic Blast: now properly available to Bat pets.Modified
  • ▲Marksmanship: talenting out of Lone Wolf will no longer cause the Hunter to have -4% damage while their pet is active.Modified
  • ▲Survival: Lacerating Strikes can now land critical hits.Modified
  • ▲Survival: Strider Kick now also increases movement speed by 30% for 3 seconds.Modified

What goes down

  • ▼Pets: Furious Howl Attack Power bonus reduced 40%.Modified
  • ▼Tame Beast (Tame Beast): no longer works on Beasts that are higher than the Hunter’s level.Modified

Rogue (Rogue)

Rogue(Rogue)

Net nerf

Only one line for Rogues this patch, but it closes a loophole: until now, Sap (Sap) could be cast on a PvP-flagged target without flagging the Rogue for PvP themselves. That’s no longer the case.

What goes down

  • ▼Sap (Sap): now correctly flags the Rogue for PvP when used on a target that is PvP flagged.Modified
↑ Back to top
Priest (Priest)

Priest(Priest)

Net buff

Nothing but good news for Priests: beyond Renew (Renew) finally being able to crit and Power Word: Shield (Power Word: Shield) reapplying more freely, the Priest’s racial branches (Gnome, Night Elf, and Undead) each pick up a useful fix.

What goes up

  • ▲Renew (Renew): corrected an issue and now Renew can land critical hits.Modified
  • ▲Power Word: Shield (Power Word: Shield): can now always overwrite an existing Power Word: Shield on a target that does not have Weakened Soul.Modified
  • ▲Gnome – Contingency Plan (Contingency Plan): corrected an issue and now Contingency Plan can land critical hits.Modified
  • ▲Night Elf – Starshards (Starshards): now correctly gains resistance to spell pushback from the Twilight Focus talent.Modified
  • ▲Undead – Dark Sacrifice (Dark Sacrifice): no longer breaks Crowd Control that breaks on damage.Modified

Reworks and comfort

  • ◆Gnome – Confounding Flash (Confounding Flash): now has a cast visual, more Holy oriented than Arcane, with the sounds updated to match.Modified
  • ◆Undead – Dark Sacrifice (Dark Sacrifice)‘s tooltip now correctly displays that the Mana gained from the ability scales with Spirit.
Shaman (Shaman)

Shaman(Shaman)

Balanced

Shaman gains damage and healing on its direct-cast spells, Lightning Bolt (Lightning Bolt), Lava Burst (Lava Burst), and Riptide (Riptide), but loses a whole chunk of its totem game: totem stacking, once exploitable in multi-Shaman groups, is closed off almost across the board.

What goes up

  • ▲Lightning Bolt (Lightning Bolt): damage on ranks 3 and 4 increased to make these spells always upgrades over previous ranks (despite changing cast times).Modified
  • ▲Elemental – Lava Burst (Lava Burst): damage on ranks 1 and 2 increased to be about 10% more base damage than the Lightning Bolt rank learned around the same level.Modified
  • ▲Restoration – Riptide (Riptide): corrected an issue and now Riptide can land critical hits.Modified
  • ▲Flametongue Totem (Flametongue Totem): no longer has a duration and is instantly replaced when placing another totem.Modified

What goes down

  • ▼Flametongue Totem (Flametongue Totem): no longer able to be stacked by repeatedly casting it, and no longer stacks with Flametongue Weapon (Flametongue Weapon) or Windfury Totem (Windfury Totem).Modified
  • ▼Tranquil Air Totem, Windfury Totem, and Grace of Air Totem (Grace of Air Totem): no longer stack together even if used by different Shamans in the same group.Modified
  • ▼Enhancement – Rage of the Farseer (Row 7): no longer increases the Shaman’s Spell Casting Speed.Modified

Reworks and comfort

  • ◆Buffs from Windfury Totem and Flametongue Totem now display under their own name instead of « … Passive » or « … Effect ».Modified
  • ◆Elemental: swapped the positions of the Elemental Fury (Row 3) and Elemental Alacrity (Row 6) talents, to make room for more Enhancement Shaman additions in the future.Modified
↑ Back to top
Mage (Mage)

Mage(Mage)

Net buff

Arcane Missiles (Arcane Missiles) becomes more reliable on the move, and Fire gets two longer buff windows to better sustain its rotation while leveling, at the cost of a fix that closes a damage stacking interaction that had gotten too generous on Combustion.

What goes up

  • ▲Arcane Missiles (Arcane Missiles): no longer checks line of sight on each missile, just once at the beginning of the channel: targets moving out of line of sight during the channel will not prevent the missiles.Modified
  • ▲Fire – Wake of Fire: buff duration increased to 30 seconds (was 20 seconds).Modified
  • ▲Fire – Hot Streak: buff duration increased to 20 seconds (was 15 seconds).Modified

What goes down

  • ▼Fire – Ignite: no longer double dips on % damage increase modifiers.Modified
↑ Back to top
Warlock (Warlock)

Warlock(Warlock)

Net buff

Only two lines, but one of them fixes a real shortfall: Voidwalker Sacrifice finally scales with the Warlock’s spell healing the way it should.

What goes up

  • ▲Voidwalker Sacrifice: now correctly scales with 10% of the Warlock’s spell healing.Modified

Reworks and comfort

  • ◆The tooltip of Life Tap (Life Tap) has been updated to correctly display the amount of Life converted, and only states that it scales with Spirit.
Druid (Druid)

Druid(Druid)

Net buff

Three heals that couldn’t crit finally can, Wrath (Wrath) gets +50% base damage, and Feral changes its vocabulary: Mangle becomes Primal Bite, its signature debuff having been removed: the old name no longer matched what the ability actually does.

What goes up

  • ▲Rejuvenation (Rejuvenation): corrected an issue and now Rejuvenation can land critical hits.Modified
  • ▲Tranquility (Tranquility): corrected an issue and now Tranquility can land critical hits.Modified
  • ▲Restoration – Wild Growth (Wild Growth): corrected an issue and now Wild Growth can land critical hits.Modified
  • ▲Wrath (Wrath): base damage increased ~50%.Modified

What goes down

  • ▼Feral – Feral Charge (Cat): fixed a bug where it could be cast on allies.Modified
  • ▼Thorns: its values now recalculate continuously based on the caster’s spell power, instead of being locked in when the spell is cast (they return to base values if the caster is too far away or missing). No more trick of casting Thorns in healing gear to capture high spell power, then switching back to tank gear to keep the inflated value.Modified

Reworks and comfort

  • ◆Feral – Lacerate: has been renamed Primal Bite. Its signature debuff has been removed, so the former name no longer accurately represented the ability, and all talents referencing Lacerate now reference Primal Bite.Modified
  • ◆Feral – Primal Fury: the talent has been renamed and the icon replaced with the original Blood Frenzy name and icon.Modified

General changes

Two cross-class additions dominate this update: a customizable Cooldown Manager and new gamepad flyout menus. The rest is a wave of fixes (cast animations, Campfire buffs, items, playable races), plus a long list of zone-by-zone quest adjustments that Blizzard details in full in its original post.

New

  • ◆The cost to re-spec temporarily drops to 1 silver if you haven’t recently changed your talents (Beta only): after your first reset, the subsequent cost jumps much higher, then drops back to 1 silver after 1 hour.New
  • ◆The Cooldown Manager pulls critical information from the buff bar or action bar and places it in a fully customizable location; disabled by default, enable it under Options → Gameplay Enhancement. Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior, and Warlock are available for testing, with more classes to follow.New
  • ◆New class-specific flyouts arrive on the gamepad action bar: shapeshift flyout for Druids, pet control flyouts for Hunters and Warlocks, aura flyout for Paladins, and stance flyout for Warriors.New

What goes down

  • ▼Wands: no longer gain any additional damage from the user’s spell damage.Modified
  • ▼Tauren race – Cultivation: now has a player-level requirement for every Herb, equal to the Herb’s level required to pick it divided by 5.
  • ▼Undead race – Touch of the Grave: no longer breaks Crowd Control and no longer activates from spells or abilities without a damage component (for example, Distract or Pick Pocket no longer trigger it).

Fixes and comfort

  • ◆Fixed a bug with casters not playing their precast animations and sometimes standing while casting.
  • ◆Players may now obtain a Campfire buff while sitting, sitting in a chair, sleeping, lying down, or using the kneeling emote, and may buff each other, cast, and craft while waiting for it.
  • ◆Fixed a memory leak causing gradual performance degradation for some players.
  • ◆Fixed an issue where in-game mail could ignore surnames.
  • ◆Gnome race – Eureka: changed on every class to a 10% discount on Mana, Rage, or Energy abilities.Modified
  • ◆Human race – Will to Survive: visual changed to match Dispel Magic instead of Will of the Forsaken.Modified
  • ◆Wizard Oil: Minor Wizard Oil has been reverted to Classic Era value of 8 spell power, Lesser Wizard Oil to 16, and Wizard Oil to 24; Brilliant Wizard Oil remains unchanged.Modified
  • ◆Dozens of zone-by-zone quest adjustments (faster respawns in Elwynn Forest, Durotar, Dun Morogh, Mulgore, and more, shared-loot fixes, and a redesigned « Catching Wind » quest on Zephras Isle), plus UI updates (Nameplate selection display, Personal Resource Display textures). Blizzard details every one of these zone-by-zone fixes in its original post.
