GUIDE VOLEUR
Dance of Knives Rogue Build Overview
The Rogue
Dance of Knives build is the most comfortable endgame option for farming in Diablo 4 Season 12. The concept is deceptively simple: hold down
Dance of Knives and collect your loot.
Poison Trap automatically places under nearby enemies thanks to the
Aspect of Bursting Venoms, and your ultimate resets itself via runewords.
This is not the ultimate push build for high Pits — that role belongs to the
Heartseeker build. It's also not the most mobile build — the
Death Trap build excels at that. However, this is the most enjoyable build for farming in Torment 4 and beyond, with no complex rotation or button spam.
This build is the natural follow-up to the Rogue
Dance of Knives leveling starter version. You can switch to this endgame version once you obtain the
Aspect of Bursting Venoms, along with the mandatory uniques: the chest armor
Scoundrel's Leathers and the Bands of Icarus Rose gloves.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- Extremely simple gameplay: hold down a single button to farm
Poison Trap places automatically thanks to the
Aspect of Bursting Venoms- Automatic reset of all cooldowns via runewords and Preparation
- Excellent passive survivability thanks to
Dark Shroud (via
Umbrous Aspect) and
Concealment - Perfect for relaxed farming in Torment 4 and beyond
Weaknesses
- Not the best push build for very high Pits
- Requires several specific uniques to function properly
- Requires drinking a potion every 10 seconds to maximize damage via
Unstable Elixirs
Recommended Equipment
Table de Loot
The helmet
Heir of Perdition multiplicatively increases all damage, and its four main stats (including critical strike chance) are all useful for this build. If you don't have this unique yet, a legendary helmet with critical strike chance will work in the meantime.
The chest armor
Scoundrel's Leathers is one of the two core pieces of the build. It transforms your traps into Basic skills, which activates the helmet and
Ring of Starless Skies bonuses, while significantly increasing trap damage.
The Bands of Icarus Rose gloves provide four additional traps (going from 4 to 8 simultaneously), reduce the damage-over-time application time to 3 seconds, and grant combo point bonuses from
Dance of Knives.
The pants are legendary with the
Umbrous Aspect which passively activates
Dark Shroud without needing to place it on the skill bar. The Temper on the pants reduces trap trigger time. Also prioritize the bonus to the number of healing potions to maximize
Unstable Elixirs.
The boots carry the
Mangler's Aspect which stuns vulnerable enemies hit by
Dance of Knives, activating the
Trick Attacks passive for a 15% critical strike chance bonus. The boot Temper increases the number of attacks affected by
Poison Imbuement.
The two-handed crossbow is chosen for its high base damage, with the
Aspect of Contamination which increases trap damage triggered by a critical strike — hence the importance of reaching 100% crit. The two swords carry the
Aspect of Star Shards (shards for crowd control and combo points) and the
Vehement Brawler's Aspect (damage bonus after activating the ultimate). Weapon tempers increase trap duration.
The amulet carries the
Aspect of Bursting Venoms, the central piece enabling automatic trap placement. The
Ring of Starless Skies is a classic whose ideal masterwork goes into lucky hit or Basic skill if your crit is already at 100%. The second ring carries the
Clandestine Aspect which increases two skill categories by 5 ranks — the vulnerable lucky hit stat on this ring is crucial.
Build Variants
Uber Boss Variant: For Uber Boss fights, replace some skill points with
Caltrops and its enhancement nodes. You have up to 7 flexible points from
Sturdy (2 points),
Rugged (1 to 3 points), and
Debilitating Toxins (1 to 2 points). Against an Uber Boss, first cast
Caltrops, then
Death Trap, and start spinning with
Dance of Knives to place as many traps under the Boss as possible.
Critical Strike Chance: If your crit with all active buffs is below 100%, invest points in
Trap Mastery and take the first passive node of
Dash which provides 10% additional crit. 100% crit is essential for the
Aspect of Contamination.
Runewords: The Ahu + Quarks duo is mandatory for energy consumption which activates the Preparation specialization and resets all cooldowns. For the second word, Neo + Plas (Sorcerer's nova) or Neo + Tul (Druid's wolves) both provide a defensive freeze that activates
Frigid Finesse. The Neo rune can be replaced by Bac once maximum movement speed is reached (+200%).
Gameplay Tips
Basic Rotation: Hold
Dance of Knives down permanently. The skill automatically triggers
Poison Trap via lucky hit and the
Aspect of Bursting Venoms. There can be up to 8 simultaneous traps (4 base + 4 from gloves). Each trap triggers with a quarter-second delay thanks to the pants Temper.
Buff Management: Drink a healing potion at least every 10 seconds, even at full health, to activate
Unstable Elixirs which stuns enemies and increases your damage. The bonus stacks, so the more often you drink, the better. Activate
Poison Imbuement approximately every 2-3 seconds to maintain poison conversion on your attacks.
Mobility and Survivability: Activate
Concealment at least every 5 seconds to phase through enemies, gain dodge and movement speed. If the cooldown isn't ready, it will be reset by the ultimate via the Preparation specialization. The Ahu + Quarks runeword consumes all energy, which resets the ultimate, which in turn resets everything else — a self-sustaining cycle.
Ultimate Usage:
Death Trap primarily serves as a damage buff for
Poison Trap and to reset your skills. Place it under elites or Bosses. The ultimate automatically resets when it deals damage and via the key passive
Exposure which works on lucky hit. Use it at minimum every 8 seconds to maintain the
Vehement Brawler's Aspect bonus.
Movement Speed: Aim for +200% with all active buffs. Check this number directly on the battlefield, buffs included — the same vigilance applies to critical strike chance which must imperatively reach 100%.
Arbre des Talents
Mercenaire
Paragon and Glyphs
The Rogue
Dance of Knives build's Paragon Board prioritizes damage-over-time nodes and poison damage to maximize the potential of
Poison Trap. Glyphs should focus on lucky hit, Basic skill damage (thanks to
Scoundrel's Leathers which transforms traps into Basic skills), and survivability.
Consult the interactive planner below for the exact board allocation. The investment order follows natural progression logic: start with offensive boards before completing defensive ones once your gear is in place.
