Since September 15, a Season 15 Diablo 4 player can hold only one copy of each Prime Evil Splinter: one Hatred, one Destruction, one Terror, and no more. Patch 3.2.4, dated October 28, raises the limit on Prime Evil Splinters to 99. The notes run to two lines, and they are enough to change how the season's three demons are farmed.

What patch 3.2.4 says, and what it leaves out

Blizzard's official notes describe build 74043 (all platforms) for October 28, 2026. The line that matters: "The stack size for Prime Evil Splinters increased from 1 to 99." A stack is the number of copies of one item that fit in a single inventory slot. A line follows about stability, visual and interface improvements, with no detail.

GamesRadar article by Jordan Gerblick titled Blizzard finally sees sense and caves to Diablo 4 players, increases Prime Evil Splinter stack size by 9900%
GamesRadar, Jordan Gerblick, October 23, 2026: the first major outlet to relay the patch 3.2.4 line.

The news came out before the patch: the notes were already online on October 23, when GamesRadar spotted a screenshot of them in a post on the r/diablo4 subreddit. So nothing is live yet. Blizzard has not given the maintenance time, and the sources we read do not say whether splinters you already own will merge on their own. Since each character carries only one per type today, the question mostly concerns players who keep others in the stash or on a second character.

Why one Prime Evil Splinter per type hurt farming

Prime Evil Splinters are the currency of the Season of Hell's Legacy mechanic. Once the seasonal questline is done, you use one to pick your demon (Mephisto for Hatred, Baal for Destruction, Diablo for Terror) and unlock its Prime Evil powers. According to GamesRadar, they are among the rarest drops of the season, and they fall from the three demons at Torment 10.

With a limit of one copy, a second splinter of the same type could not be picked up. For a player chaining fights against the demons, that meant leaving one of the hardest items in the game on the ground. At 99, the limit stops getting in the way: you keep what drops and decide later what to do with it. The notes do not say what the extra splinters are for. This article does not make that up.

Prime Evil Splinters: the two-player workaround becomes pointless

High-level players did not wait. On October 21, GamesRadar described a trick shown in a video by the creator Rob2628. You need a friend advanced enough to reach Torment 10. When a duplicate splinter drops, the friend stays near it to "hold the instance" (keep the zone open so the item does not vanish when you log out). You switch to another character that does not have that splinter yet, and your friend invites you into their game so you can pick it up.

GamesRadar article from October 21, 2026 about a player workaround for a Season 15 annoyance in Diablo 4, with the tagline I'm not sure it's worth the hassle
GamesRadar, Jordan Gerblick, October 21, 2026: the two-player method that the limit of 99 makes obsolete.

GamesRadar notes it has not tested the method and sees too many constraints for it to be worth the effort. Patch 3.2.4 settles the matter without a second player.

From 1 to 99: +9,800%, not +9,900%

GamesRadar's headline announces a 9,900% increase. The math takes one line: a stack going from 1 to 99 is multiplied by 99, which is +9,800%. The 9,900% comes from the ratio of 99 to 1 written as a percentage, without subtracting the starting point. The mistake is common, and it changes nothing of substance: the limit is 99 times higher.

Prime Evil Splinters: a fix many players call late

The players' reaction is nothing like relief. According to GamesRadar, most comments on the Reddit thread, including the most upvoted, find the change too late. The top one: "Nice. Wait until the bulk of the playerbase has given up in disgust." Jordan Gerblick doubts that the mass of players quit over this, and thinks most do not care about splinter stacks. The article also reads the wording of the notes as a design reversal, not a bug fix: that is GamesRadar's interpretation, Blizzard has not described it that way.

Our reading, which follows from the dates: the season began on September 15, and the limit falls six weeks later. In between, patch 3.2.3 of October 14 fixed the splinter used before the end of the seasonal questline, without repairing characters already stuck, and patch 3.2.2 had unblocked the quest itself. The season's fixes arrive in several waves.

Diablo 4 Season 15, not Season 16

Patch 3.2.4 belongs to Diablo 4 Season 15, the one with the splinters. Do not confuse it with the Season 16 PTR 3.3.0, which opens on October 27 and which we covered in what the Season 16 PTR will test. For players still farming Prime Evil Splinters, the date to remember is October 28.
