The service for Pokémon UNITE will end on Tuesday 23 March 2027 at 00:00 UTC, which is 01:00 in Paris. The Pokémon Company announced it on 26 October 2026, for the Nintendo Switch version and the mobile version alike. From that day on, no login and no match will be possible.
The publisher’s wording fits in one sentence: “We regret to inform you that service for Pokémon UNITE will end on Tuesday, March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC.” No reason is given, and the notice mentions no refund.

What stops right now: purchases
Sales of Aeos Gems, the paid currency, stopped at the announcement. Gems already bought stay usable until the service ends, not beyond. If you have some in reserve, the schedule is simple: whatever is not spent before 23 March is lost.
The UNITE Club subscription, for its part, can no longer be taken out or renewed since 27 October at 05:00 UTC. Current members keep their perks until the end of their current period. Once that period is over, the subscription simply stops.
The publisher mentions no goodwill gesture, and that is worth knowing before spending anything: an announced shutdown also ends the value of a purchase. The safest course is to buy nothing more and make the most of the 12 November update, detailed below. For a comparison with a game that sells without a lottery, our analysis of Final Fantasy Resonance gives a recent example.
12 November: an event and the Library mode
An update arrives on Thursday 12 November 2026. It brings a special event during which players can obtain various items that have appeared in the game, including Unite licenses and Holowear. Above all it adds a “Library” mode, which lets you view certain records and in-game content after the shutdown.
The detail matters. According to Inven Global, in an article by Seungjin “Looa” Kang dated 26 October, it will hold battle stats, acquired licenses and Holowear. But only players who have downloaded the library data before 23 March 2027 will have access afterwards. The publisher states that this data generally cannot be transferred from one device to another, and that no customer support will cover the Library after the shutdown.

In practice, two steps are worth remembering. The first is to launch the game after 12 November to collect the event items. The second is to download the library data on the console or phone you will be using at the end, since it stays tied to the device. Starting the download well before March avoids hitting a saturated server, or a device swapped in the meantime. That is our own precaution: the official notice sets no deadline before 23 March.
A final tournament, two days before the shutdown
The Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo competitive tournament is going ahead. According to Inven Global, qualifiers start on 5 December 2026 and the finals are held in Tokyo on 20 and 21 March 2027. The game therefore switches off two days after its last final.
Warning signs had been visible since July 2026: the official site then announced that Pokémon UNITE would not feature in the 2027 Pokémon World Championships, and that a separate tournament would replace it. A game removed from the world circuit and then closed eight months later makes a coherent timeline, even though the publisher never links the two itself.
The Asian Games medal, a month before the announcement
The irony of the calendar lies in the medal table. In September 2026, at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, the game was an official medal event: 58 players from 10 countries competed, and the South Korean team took bronze, again according to Inven Global. We went through that list in our article on the eleven esports medal events at the Asian Games, where Pokémon UNITE was among the eleven events.
An official medal, then a shutdown announced about a month later: institutional esports does not protect a game whose operation is ending. Nothing in the notice says the two facts are linked, and nothing allows us to assume it. All we know is that sporting recognition did not weigh on the decision.
Pokémon UNITE, already closed in Belgium and the Netherlands
The game launched on Switch on 21 July 2021. It had already stopped being available in Belgium and the Netherlands at the end of November 2025, as a ResetEra discussion thread noted. Both countries treat loot boxes as gambling, and the idea of a link with those rules is circulating, but the publisher never confirmed that reason. For the worldwide shutdown, it gives none either.
