Rockstar Games chose Netflix to broadcast its Extended Look at Grand Theft Auto VI. 26 minutes and 49 seconds of gameplay footage, filmed directly in-game. The whole thing captured in-game and released Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 9 PM Paris time. This was neither another trailer nor a simple technical demonstration. The studio took the time to show, mechanism by mechanism, what will change the way Jason Duval and Lucia play through the streets of Vice City.

We reported it in our article from August 15: Rockstar had chosen Netflix as its launch platform. It comes less than three months before the game’s release, set for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, after two consecutive delays.

A Timed Exclusive, Then the Arrival on YouTube

Netflix broadcast the Extended Look first, with six hours of total exclusivity before the video appeared anywhere else. Variety puts the length at around 27 minutes, while PC Gamer rounds it down to 26. It’s the same presentation, hosted on the Tudum page, Netflix’s editorial site dedicated to its productions.

The video then joined Rockstar Games’ official YouTube channel at 9 PM Eastern time. That’s 3 AM in France, in the night of August 27 to 28. But it’s subject to age verification there. You need to be logged into an adult Google account to watch it, and it can’t be embedded elsewhere. On Push Square, the video slot instead displays the message « Sorry, this content is age-restricted ».

This restriction opened the door to unofficial copies. One of them, uploaded by a channel with only 2,190 subscribers, already showed 580,103 views at the time of writing. For those who prefer the original, Rockstar also offers a direct 4K download on the game’s website, weighing in at around 14.2 GB.

Rockstar Speaks Up, Base PS5 as Proof

The press release published by Rockstar Games uses the exact title of the presentation, « Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look ». The studio specifies a detail that matters for judging what was shown. All the footage was captured in-game on a base PlayStation 5, not on the Pro model.

Rockstar Newswire, August 27, 2026. The official press release, updated to note the arrival on YouTube and the game’s website.

Rockstar moved its release date twice before settling on November 19. The game had first been announced for 2025, during the first trailer in December 2023. A first delay pushed it to May 26, 2026, announced on May 2, 2025. A second pushed it back to November 19, announced on November 6, 2025. Nearly three years will have passed between the initial announcement and this release date. Rockstar justified the choice in precise terms: « these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve ». This date also appears in our fall release calendar.

Jason and Lucia, a Seamless Switch

The most talked-about system in this Extended Look comes down to a single gesture. Jason and Lucia swap instantly whenever they’re together, even in the middle of a mission. One scene makes it clear: Jason fires from a car, then the view switches to Lucia driving, with no loading screen or cutscene. The character left behind keeps acting on their own: they fire alongside you, they take part in heists.

Beyond that, the relationship between the two characters evolves based on the choices made and the time spent together. No details were given on how this evolution shows up on screen.

A Police Force That No Longer Shows Up on the Map

The overhaul of the wanted system is the second major change in this Extended Look. The sixth wanted star makes its return, a level absent from Grand Theft Auto V. But the police no longer appear on the minimap: spotting them now requires a mechanic called « Focus ».

Below the wanted star, symbols indicate exactly what the police know about you: your face, your clothes, your weapons. Changing outfits mid-chase becomes a tactic, not just a cosmetic option.

A Karma System That Keeps Track of Your Actions

Grand Theft Auto VI also introduces a karma system. Petting a dog makes an angel icon appear on the right side of the screen, while a burglary produces the opposite effect. The game builds a profile from accumulated actions, and ordinary gestures, like throwing away your trash, correct it in the other direction.

Several outlets, including TheGamer, compare this mechanic to the honor system in Red Dead Redemption 2. The comparison makes sense: Rockstar is reusing an already-proven formula to give weight to small everyday decisions, not just to main missions.

Combat Gets Modernized, Vice City Comes Alive

The aiming system has been reworked in depth. Free aim now comes closer to the current standards of third-person shooters, far from what previous Rockstar games offered. A slow-motion mode recalls the Dead Eye from Red Dead Redemption 2, the mechanic that suspends time to line up several targets in a row. Here it lets you target the head, hands or joints. Weapons on the ground can be picked up on the fly.

PC Gamer, August 27, 2026, article by Christopher Livingston. The subheading settles on 26 minutes, Variety counts 27.

Interactions with non-player characters also borrow from Red Dead Redemption 2: holding a trigger is enough to pick an action from a context menu. Breaking into a car now happens with a slim jim, a thin metal strip slid between the window and the door frame, rather than by smashing the glass. The Extended Look also shows robberies of small businesses, including a restaurant, and streets noticeably busier than in previous entries in the series.

The rest is what the series has offered for years, just more varied. Scuba diving, jet-skiing, basketball, mountain biking and off-road motorcycling, weightlifting, street racing and rally racing, fishing, playable arcade cabinets, electric scooters, nightclubs where you can dance, livestreaming from within the game. The wardrobe expands to fit the occasion. And life gets more intimate at times too: a beer in hand, in front of a TV airing real ads. The minimap even shows buildings in three dimensions. The Extended Look also features Raul Bautista, Brian and Boobie among the faces populating Leonida, over a soundtrack that draws on Phil Collins, among others.

What the Extended Look Didn’t Show

No PC version has been announced for Grand Theft Auto VI, and no date exists for such a release. Rockstar also stays silent on GTA Online and on any multiplayer mode. The studio says it’s focused on the solo experience. The switch between Jason and Lucia, however spectacular, remains a mechanic designed for a single player.

Variety's headline, which links the 27 minutes of footage to the ongoing leaks at Rockstar
Variety, August 27, 2026, article by Jennifer Maas. The headline places the presentation in the context of the ongoing leaks.

Variety highlights the context of this presentation. It arrives amid ongoing leaks at Rockstar Games, a topic we’ve been following since the case of the hacker behind them. The Extended Look doesn’t close the book on the matter. It sets down, less than three months before release, what Rockstar chose to show on its own terms before others did it for them.
