Black Temple has been running for close to two weeks, Arena season 3 is underway, and Phase 4 Sunwell still has no date. Blizzard sent Classic players toward the September 12-13 BlizzCon instead. Here’s where the Anniversary realms actually stand, and what’s left to do before then.
Where the Anniversary Realms Stand Today
Phase 3 opened on August 27, 2026. It unlocked Black Temple and the Battle for Mount Hyjal, the two raids that make up tier 6, the current peak of TBC gear on these servers. We covered that Phase 3 transition at the time.
The official World of Warcraft news page confirms this status. As of September 8, it still displays the banner “BCC Anniversary Edition: Black Temple Now Live” with its tagline “The time has come to face the Betrayer!”, and 91 comments at the time of our capture. No mention of Sunwell Plateau appears there.
On the PvP side, Arena season 3 has been running since September 1 in North America and September 2 in Europe. It brings the two rating thresholds that lock the best gear. This PvP schedule moves independently of PvE, and says nothing about what comes next for raid content.
What comes next is called Fury of the Sunwell. Phase 4 Sunwell will open Sunwell Plateau, the expansion’s final raid, where Kil’jaeden waits. It’s the finish line for Burning Crusade Classic’s PvE content.
On the calendar, though, there’s nothing. Blizzard hasn’t published a date for Phase 4 Sunwell. The WoW Classic 2026 roadmap places the phase “later in 2026,” with no day, no week, no narrow window. The October or November estimates circulating online come from third-party sites, never from Blizzard.
What BlizzCon Could Settle About Phase 4 Sunwell
BlizzCon 2026 takes place Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13, at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. The official schedule, which we checked on September 2, opens with a tagline: “Two days. Every stage. Plan your BlizzCon 2026.” A button lets you download the convention center map, and a filter switches the view stage by stage.
Seven stages make up the event: Main Stage in Hall D, Legends Stage on the second floor, Overwatch World Cup Arena, World of Warcraft Stage in Hall C, Hearthstone Stage in Hall B, Classic Cup Stage in Hall A, Diablo Stage in Hall B. A whole stage is dedicated to World of Warcraft. Another hosts the very first Blizzard Classic Cup, an inaugural tournament announced alongside the Arena World Championship and the Mythic Dungeon International.
The opening ceremony runs from 5:30 to 6:45 PM on Saturday the 12th, on the Main Stage, with developers on stage, and six other stages carry it live at the same time. All the times shown are Anaheim time, so convert before you block out your evening. One honest caveat: we didn’t record the individual World of Warcraft stage time slots, so we won’t say who speaks or when. Our rundown of the official schedule covers the rest.
Until then, the current raid remains the only priority that holds up. Every night spent in Black Temple or Mount Hyjal builds the gear that will serve as the foundation for entering the Sunwell, whenever it opens. That playtime is never wasted, even if Phase 4 Sunwell takes its time.
Arena season 3 moves forward in parallel, and it doesn’t cost a single gold coin. Its gear is bought purely with arena and honor points. That’s guaranteed progress, independent of the raid schedule, unlike what gets expensive in Phase 3 outside Black Temple.
One last note to avoid confusion: the Phase 4 question has nothing to do with the Blizzard survey many mistake for Classic+. These are two separate topics, and only the first one concerns the current Anniversary realms. The opening ceremony starts at 5:30 PM Anaheim time on September 12.
