TBC Phase 3: What Costs Gold Beyond Black Temple

On August 27, 2026 at 3:00 pm PDT , midnight in Paris (CEST) on the night of the 27th to the 28th , Blizzard confirmed the shift of the Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary realms into TBC Phase 3. Black Temple opens, Illidan Stormrage awaits in Shadowmoon Valley, and every guild is talking about it. The rest of the phase arrives almost silently, and that’s what will drain your gold.

This phase isn’t just a nine-boss raid. It opens the Battle for Mount Hyjal, Netherwing faction dailies, and a new source of epic gems at the same time. Five days later, Arena Season 3 launches on top of all that. Three systems, three gold sinks, the same week.

The Black Temple attunement chain and its boss order are already documented elsewhere. What few players ask before August 27 is a different question: what order to pay for things in, what can wait, and why buying an epic gem on day one is usually the worst call you can make. That’s the whole point of looking at TBC Phase 3 through your wallet.

TBC Phase 3: Everything Arrives the Same Day

Blizzard grouped all the openings together. TBC Phase 3 launches Black Temple, the Battle for Mount Hyjal, Netherwing reputation, epic gems, and Arena Season 3 in the same maintenance window. Nothing is spread across several weeks this time, unlike previous phases.

Black Temple mostly serves as the reference point for placing everything else. Nine bosses, level 70, in Shadowmoon Valley, with Illidan Stormrage as the final fight. Tier 6 armor tokens, epic weapons, and the legendary Warglaives of Azzinoth drop there. Access runs through The Tablets of Baa’ri chain, obtained from Arcanist Thelis or Anchorite Ceyla, after The Arcatraz, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, and Hyjal Summit. The rest costs gold starting August 27, and it’s not just for Black Temple raiders.

Epic Gems: The Budget Line Everyone Forgets

Three sources, and none of them are free. Mining inside the Battle for Mount Hyjal, at 375 Mining. Rare drops in Black Temple. Cutting raw gems via Jewelcrafting recipes unlocked by Scale of the Sands reputation. Each one assumes you’ve already stepped into a TBC Phase 3 raid.

Since all three sources are locked behind raid content, supply starts close to zero. According to Timesaver.gg’s estimates, the most sought-after cuts should top 1,000 gold each during the first week. By the same source, re-gemming a full raid character while supply stays low runs between 2,000 and 5,000 gold.

Unless you’re raiding Black Temple on day one, buying an epic gem in the first week is a bad call. The price will come down on its own once mining and bosses have been farmed for two or three weeks. Build your gold reserve before buying, not after watching the price spike on the auction house.

Hyjal and Netherwing: Two Reputations to Grind at Once

The Battle for Mount Hyjal unlocks through The Vials of Eternity chain, started with Soridormi in the Caverns of Time. It grants access to Scale of the Sands reputation and the Indormi vendor’s stock. The zone can also be mined for epic gems, making it a double stop: reputation and raw materials in the same place.

Netherwing Ledge works differently. Its dailies start in Shadowmoon Valley, build up to Exalted, and unlock epic flying mounts at the end of the line. You already need to be able to fly, mount or flight form, to reach the zone. No flying mount in your bags, no dailies possible.

Ashtongue Deathsworn follows the same logic as Hyjal: every Black Temple boss drops some, and the rewards are then traded in with Okuno. Three reputation bars, three different locations, one single week to start grinding them all.

The tight schedule isn’t limited to Burning Crusade Classic. WoW Midnight Season 2 also turned a page on August 18, with its own batch of adjustments. Juggling three reputation bars during the same week as TBC Phase 3 is becoming the norm, not the exception.

Arena Season 3: The Bill That Follows TBC Phase 3

Season 2 ended on August 18, 2026. Remaining Arena Points were converted to Honor at a ten-to-one ratio. Season 2 gear moves to the Area 52 vendors at a reduced price, while Season 1 gear drops down to the Honor vendors in Orgrimmar and Stormwind.

Unlike the rest of TBC Phase 3, Arena Season 3 doesn’t start on August 27. Blizzard times the season change to each realm’s first weekly arena reset, which places the launch during the week of September 1-2, 2026. A one-day gap separates North America, which resets on Tuesday, from Europe, which resets on Wednesday.

It brings the Vengeful Gladiator tier, a new ladder, and, for the first time in this replay, real rating requirements on the best pieces. None of that costs a single gold coin by itself: arena gear is bought with Arena Points and Honor, not with your wallet.

The real cost lies elsewhere. Gemming and enchanting a full arena set the same week Black Temple demands its own gems is what creates the bottleneck. Two budgets, one gold reserve, a choice to make about what comes first.
