WoW Forever opens in the night of November 4 to 5, 2026: launch is set for 3 p.m. on the US West Coast on November 4, which is midnight in Paris, according to Blizzard’s pre-purchase announcement. A returning player from the 2005-2009 era finds level 60 as the cap in WoW Forever, but no realm to pick and no flying mount. What follows sorts the information as of October 26, 2026 into three levels: confirmed by Blizzard, to check in game from November 5, unknown.
Confirmed by Blizzard: how WoW Forever is framed for a returning player
No more realms: Blizzard asks players to pick a ruleset (a game mode that replaces the realm). They are Normal, PvP, Roleplaying and Hardcore, the latter after launch. Roleplay-PvP joins them since the October 22 update to Blizzard’s article: it arrives on November 4. Each ruleset is a closed world, where you group, run dungeons and raid only with players of the same ruleset. The two factions stay separate.
Changing ruleset means creating a new character. On PvP, an account can only create characters of one faction. Battlegrounds can mix rulesets, except Hardcore. Character names have two parts, like a first and a last name, unique per region (Deep Dive recap, September 13). The consequences of each choice are detailed in our article on the ruleset.

Level 60 stays the cap: Blizzard speaks of an adventure up to level 60, and Inven Global (JaeHun Park, September 12) reports that the developers announced at BlizzCon a cap kept permanently. The recap of the “What’s Next” panel (September 12) also sets two bans: “no flying mounts, no level scaling”.

On content, Blizzard announces nine five-player dungeons, from level 13 to level 60 (October 20 article). Three raids open on December 9, according to the raid overview of October 20: Barrow Deeps for 10 players, Hyjal Summit for 20, Onyxia for 40. Onyxia requires the Drakefire Amulet, earned through a faction-specific quest chain that sends you back into high-level dungeons several times.
On groups, Ana Resendes, a software engineer at Blizzard, told Inven Global (September 12) that the team favors players who form their groups by hand. Tools that help with the search are possible, but not a single button that assembles a group and teleports it into the content. The beta does contain a Group Finder (a group-posting tool), with a dungeon list and a choice of voice channel, according to the beta development notes.
Confirmed by Blizzard: the character and the interface in WoW Forever
For a returning player, talents are the first shock: they are rebuilt, not just tweaked, according to Inven Global. The Paladin Class Deep Dive (October 15) gives the structure: talents from level 10, a familiar layout with one-point talents at the 11, 21 and 31 tiers, plus a new tier at 16. Dual specialization arrives at level 40. Blizzard states that abilities and talents may still change, and our class choice article follows those changes.

Stats are reworked too, according to the BlizzCon Deep Dive: spell, melee and ranged hit chance are merged into one, and critical strike chance likewise. Blizzard presents this as a benefit for hybrid classes, such as Retribution Paladin or Enhancement Shaman.
Skyborne, the new race, picks Horde or Alliance at character creation. On the Horde side it can play Shaman, on the Alliance side Mage, and on both sides Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid. Blizzard reworked racial abilities on October 26, in the beta notes: the details are on our racial abilities page.
Legacy is an account-wide system: points are earned through challenges, shared between all characters and spent character by character. At launch, 65 points can be earned and 16 spent per character, according to the Deep Dive. The three starting trees are Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness, presented on our Legacy tree page.
Professions change too. The cooking fire becomes a campfire (October 21 article) that holds up to three crafted objects, one per player, with a one-hour bonus: a blacksmith’s sharpening wheel gives Strength, an herbalist’s incense candle gives Intellect. The first objects are learned at profession level 20. Blizzard lists nine primary professions, two at a time, and Jewelcrafting is not among them.
On the interface side, the Cooldown Manager is disabled by default and is enabled in Options, under Gameplay Enhancement. Since the October 8 notes, it supports all classes, racials and trinkets. Blizzard also announces official controller support, character models in high or standard definition, and an optional transmogrification (changing an item’s look), absent from the original game.
Returning player: to check in game from November 5
- Mounts. Blizzard confirms the Burning Crusade model: the price of the mount moves into riding training, which grants it. The tiers come from beta guides: Method lists level 40 at 100 gold for 60% speed, level 60 at 1,000 gold for 100%. Blizzard has published neither those levels nor those prices.
- Leveling past 30. The beta stopped at level 30, according to the October 1 notes. Blizzard halved the extra experience from dungeon quests there, and the experience penalty on low-level monsters is now computed from each player’s own level, no longer the highest in the group. The real pace from 30 to 60 has not been tested publicly.
- Group search. For a returning player used to the tools of recent years, Blizzard’s intent (no one-click grouping or teleport) comes from an interview. How the Group Finder works exactly at level 60 remains to be seen.
- Classes. Blizzard’s pages name the Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, Mage, Shaman, Paladin, Priest and Warlock, and no other. None says other classes are excluded: the creation screen will settle it.
- Talents. The September and October beta saw changes with every update. First play impressions are in our opinion after eight hours of beta, and the Deep Dive summary sums up Blizzard’s announcements.
Unknown: what Blizzard has not said about WoW Forever
The October 7 PvP post describes Honor, fourteen ranks, rewards up to epic weapons at rank 14, and seasons. It names no arena, without ruling the idea out. For a returning player coming from PvP, the question stays open.
The legendary reward of the raids stays secret, with Blizzard saying it wants to reveal it later. Hardcore has no precise date: Blizzard announces its opening after launch, and Inven Global notes winter in the roadmap. The three raids open on December 9: five weeks after launch, it is the first firm date beyond November 4.
