Valve released a new Deadlock patch on August 12, 2026, in the middle of the game’s first ranked season. Thirteen heroes are affected, with clear gaps between the heroes who got stronger and those who got weaker. Here’s what this Deadlock patch actually changes for anyone climbing ranked this week.

The studio has been on a release streak these past few days for Deadlock, between this patch and the Half-Life 3 clues spotted in the game’s code. Here’s a quick rundown of the thirteen heroes affected first.

  • Net winners: Apollo, Vyper
  • Net losers: Billy, Wraith
  • Mixed adjustments: The Doorman, Drifter, McGinnis, Holliday
  • Targeted tweaks: Ivy, Lash, Vindicta
  • Small buff: Seven, Paige

Deadlock patch winners: Apollo and Vyper take the lead

Table of contents for the August 12 patch on the Deadlock wiki
The Deadlock Wiki, page « Update:August 12, 2026 »: the table of contents breaks down every hero and every ability that was reworked.

Apollo comes out stronger across the board. His Riposte ability gets a bigger melee resistance reduction, which goes from -22% to -25%. Level 2 of the ability now adds -25% melee resistance and +0.4 second of extra stun. Level 3 is the real change: lifesteal goes from 60% for 7 seconds to 75% for 13 seconds, almost doubling the window to heal up mid-fight. A bug that canceled Itani Lo Sahn when paired with movement abilities has also been fixed, smoothing out his combo.

Vyper gets the same favorable treatment on his Petrifying Bola. The effect radius jumps from 8 to 12 meters, and the petrify duration goes from 2 to 2.2 seconds. In practice, the ability now covers a much wider area and locks enemies down for longer, making it a far more reliable initiation tool in group fights.

The losers: Billy and Wraith take the harshest nerfs

Billy loses ground on several fronts at once. His base health regen drops from 2.5 to 2.0. Level 3 of Rising Ram changes nature: instead of dealing 7% max health in spirit damage, it now grants +10% max health for 16 seconds, a more defensive but less punishing effect in duels. Chain Gang’s Spirit Power ratio drops from 1 to 0.7, which significantly cuts its appeal for full-spirit builds.

Wraith takes a hit too. The Spirit Power ratio of Card Trick’s heal drops from 1 to 0.75, and level 3 of Full Auto sees its ratio reduced from +0.06 to +0.045. This Deadlock patch therefore hits both versions of the hero directly: heal builds and damage builds alike. It’s hard to ignore a double nerf of this scale in the middle of ranked season.

Ivy, Lash, and Vindicta: quieter tweaks that still matter in ranked

Ivy sees the stun duration of Stone Form’s level 3 drop from +1 second to +0.75 second, a targeted cut to her strongest crowd-control ability. Lash loses a bit of range on his ranged damage, with the falloff range going from 20-58 meters to 18-54 meters, slightly shortening his effective poke window. Vindicta isn’t spared either: Stake’s level 1 drops from +65 to +45 damage, a cut that’s felt right from the early game on her opening damage.

This Deadlock patch doesn’t just hit big names like Apollo or Billy: these quieter adjustments are enough to tip a hero pick in ranked, especially for already situational picks like Vindicta.

The Doorman, Drifter, McGinnis, and Holliday: double-edged changes

The Doorman loses range on Doorway, which goes from 70 to 65 meters, and his Luggage Cart no longer targets dragged enemies until they’re released, a fix that curbs abusive combos more than it’s a real cut to raw power.

Drifter sees Rend’s Spirit Power ratio drop from 1.7 to 1.4, and Stalker’s Mark’s cooldown goes from 24 to 26 seconds, with a less generous level 2 that now only cuts that cooldown by 10 seconds instead of 12. A consistent set of changes that slows down his early-game pressure.

McGinnis is the most mixed case in this Deadlock patch. Her gun damage drops by 5%, and her spirit resistance per stack falls from +0.625% to +0.35%, two nerfs to her base kit. Her Mini Turret gains health in return to make up for the loss of auto-fire on zip-lining enemies and the 80% decaying resistance bonus it used to offer. Her Medicinal Specter also improves: level 1 adds +1.5 second of duration, and level 3 now grants +40% spirit resistance. McGinnis therefore loses offensive pressure, but gains solidity on her defensive abilities.

Holliday changes in behavior rather than raw power. Her Powder Keg now deals half its damage immediately, then spreads the other half over 3 seconds as a burn. A pacing change that requires adjusting timing rather than a real loss of damage.

Seven and Paige gain a bit of damage: what’s moving in ranked

Seven gets a small buff to level 3 of Lightning Ball, whose radius goes from +1.5 to +1.75 meter. It’s modest, but it slightly widens his zone of control in teamfights.

Paige is the real bright spot of the bunch. Plot Armor’s weapon damage ratio climbs from 0.2 to 0.3, meaningfully strengthening her hybrid spirit/weapon damage profile. That gives a fresh boost to our S-Tier Paige build, which becomes even more effective with this buff.
