Build Overview

The Hellsplosion Warlock is an offensively explosive variant of the Season 13 Warlock, designed by @Moxsy from his own Apocalypse build. The core idea is simple: Hell Fracture generates lava fissures via the Lava Fissures talent tree node, and these fissures stack on a single target to multiply damage. Rather than relying on Apocalypse as the main damage source, this build uses it solely as an amplifier: triggering Annihilation at 20 charges grants 100% bonus damage to all skills for 6 seconds, then you chain Hell Fracture within that window.

The stacking mechanic is at the heart of the build: with Sigil of Subversion and Sigil of Chaos on auto-cast, the Hellfire Aura is maintained permanently. The Spine of TathametSpine of Tathamet forces a triple fracture every three uses, which can exceed the two-simultaneous-fractures cap and bring the total to five. Each of these fractures projects its own lava fissures that overlap on enemies at the center, generating damage in the trillions per cast on a single target. @Moxsy confirms peaks of 745 billion in a single slowed hit — and all chained through a Pit 120.

The Ritualist Shard is the missing piece that takes AoE from acceptable to extraordinary: each Overpower stack increases the size of Hell Fracture by 10% (per 2 charges), and this build maintains 20 charges permanently thanks to the Banished Lord's Talisman. More charges = more coverage area = more stacks = more damage. This build can clear Pit 120 and wipe out virtually all season content.

Pros / Cons

✅ Pros

  • Immediate damage with no ramp-up phase — Hell Fracture hits hard from the very first cast
  • Lava fissure stacks on a single target: damage peaks in the trillions per cast
  • Excellent AoE thanks to 20 Overpower charges + Ritualist Shard (size +100%)
  • Built-in mobility with Nether Step (extra charge, immunity, movement speed)
  • Solid survivability: Tyrael's MightTyrael's Might + Dark Prison (weakened, chain aura) + Undying AspectUndying Aspect
  • Resource regeneration optimized by Hemat Stone (510% regeneration)
  • Budget version without unique items available in the planner
  • Banished Lord's Talisman (Nameless Ritual) grants 400% bonus damage at 5 pieces

❌ Cons

  • Less powerful than the pure Apocalypse build against Bosses (slightly lower damage in extreme single target)
  • The Spine of TathametSpine of Tathamet is nearly mandatory — it cannot be placed in the Horadric Cube
  • Survivability depends on keeping Volatility active; without it, the skill costs Life
  • Requires reaching 20 Overpower charges to unlock key multipliers
  • Critical Strike Chance must be kept above 70% (harder without a Greater Affix on the focus)

This build's gear revolves around two mythics that define the playstyle and several legendary pieces that maximize Overpower and fire damage. The Heir of PerditionHeir of Perdition helmet is the offensive cornerstone: it brings bonus ranks to core skills, critical strike chance, and valuable movement speed. The Ring of Starless SkiesRing of Starless Skies reinforces core skills and consolidates damage multipliers as the resource drops.

The Tyrael's MightTyrael's Might chest is chosen here exclusively for survivability: damage reduction, all resistances, maximum Life. The skill bonus is irrelevant for this build, but the robustness it provides is difficult to replicate otherwise. The legendary gloves with Cremator's Aspect (Cremator's Aspect) provide 100% bonus damage to fire skills as soon as you hold 4 or more Overpower charges — which is permanent on this build. The two Greater Affixes on critical damage and fire damage are particularly valuable.

The PantsPants with Juggernaut's AspectJuggernaut's Aspect offer 150% additional total Armor, securing survivability in high-end content. The legendary boots carry Undying AspectUndying Aspect and serve primarily as a defensive platform with all-resistance and movement speed.

The Spine of TathametSpine of Tathamet is the mandatory main weapon: it allows Hell Fracture to exceed its natural two-simultaneous-fractures cap and place up to five fractures at once via the triple fracture. Without it, the build loses its core stacking mechanic. It farms from the Harbinger of Hatred. The legendary focus in the weapon 2 slot carries Crushing Aspect (Crushing Aspect): thanks to it, each Overpower stack above the base maximum contributes to the damage pool. This calculation results in approximately 113% bonus damage per Overpower stack on this setup.

The Hemat Stone amulet is an extraordinary quality-of-life multiplier: it brings resource regeneration to 510%, eliminating any need to manage Wrath manually. The two Greater Affixes on vulnerable damage and fire damage make it a rare and valuable piece. The legendary ring with Tidal AspectTidal Aspect completes the second ring slot.

On rings, prioritize tempers for damage per Overpower stack, attack speed, and fire multipliers. Life on hit is a strongly recommended bonus for difficult content.

Horadric Seal S13

This build's Horadric Seal relies on the Nameless Ritual set (Banished Lord's Talisman). This set turns sigil skill management into a standalone damage engine. The 2-piece bonus accumulates damage multipliers with each sigil skill activation, potentially reaching 200% bonus damage. The 3-piece bonus adds 20% damage reduction, consolidating survivability. The key 5-piece bonus is decisive: with each sigil skill cast, all base sigil skills are triggered simultaneously, and each deals 200% bonus damage to enemies in its area — doubled when Inner Power is active (effectively 400%). Since Sigil of Subversion and Sigil of Chaos are on near-permanent cast, this means the Hellfire Aura generated by Sigil of Lava is also active continuously, dealing those 400% bonus damage to every enemy in the area.

@Moxsy mentions having tested the Shadowform set and returned to the Nameless set, primarily because the 5-piece bonus directly synergizes with the fire nature of the build: all sigil skills benefit from the fire aura permanently. The talisman alone accounts for a significant portion of the power gap observed with or without this set equipped.

Gameplay Tips

The basic rotation on this build is intentionally simple: keep Apocalypse on cast as soon as 20 Overpower charges are reached (which happens very quickly), then chain Hell Fracture during the 6-second window of 100% bonus damage from the Survivor Damage node. Fractures must overlap on targets to maximize lava fissure stacks — aim at the center of a group or a Boss rather than placing fractures randomly.

The Scorching Fragment is the second shard equipped: it grants all Hellfire fire skills the "always Empowered" status, and Volatility can now stack up to 3 times, adding 60% damage per shard. @Moxsy notes that Dark Prison (paired with Sigil of Chaos) generates the Volatility needed to cover the Life cost of the Scorching Fragment — without active Volatility, each cast consumes 4% maximum Life. Never cast Hell Fracture without confirming that Volatility is at 3 stacks.

Nether Step serves both as a mobility tool and a survival system against instant-kill effects or Bosses. The extra charge (Extra Charge upgrade) allows a double dash in critical situations. Dark Prison applies weakened (enemies deal less damage), slows via the Chain Aura, and generates Fortify — keeping it active on groups considerably reduces incoming damage.

For resources: Hemat Stone brings Wrath regeneration to 510%, meaning there is no active resource management required. Sigil of Subversion is positioned at maximum cast range (Cast Range upgrade) to hex enemies from a safe distance before triggering the fractures.

On Pit Bosses beyond 110, position the five fractures in a fan pattern around the Boss to maximize stacks — the lava fissures emanating from each fracture cross at the center and each crossing generates an additional explosion. @Moxsy confirms that this specific positioning is what takes the build from "good" to "extraordinary" on single target.

Skill Tree

The tree revolves around six active skills. Hell Fracture is brought to rank 15 via gear ranks to reach effective rank 40, multiplying base damage. The Additional Fracture upgrade increases the number of simultaneous fractures available, and Lava Fissures is the most important node in the entire tree: it creates lava fissures between each fracture that form the basis of the stacking.

Apocalypse is at rank 15 with the Annihilation upgrade (trigger at 20 charges, no need to reach 100) and Double Blast for the double hit. Its role is purely utility: applying the 100% Survivor Damage bonus every few seconds. Dark Prison at rank 15 with Weaken and Chain Aura ensures incoming damage reduction. Nether Step at rank 4 with Extra Charge, Gloomwalker, and Movement Speed. Sigil of Subversion at rank 15 with Cast Range and Sigil of Lava for the Hellfire Aura. Sigil of Chaos at rank 1 on auto-cast for the additional Volatility and the secondary Hellfire Aura.

Mercenary S13

This build does not configure an active mercenary. @Moxsy instead relies on the combination of Spine of TathametSpine of Tathamet + Banished Lord's Talisman + Crushing Aspect to generate his 20 Overpower charges and maximize multipliers. The mercenary slot remains available to experiment with a defensive reinforcement if survivability proves insufficient at very high Pit levels.

Paragon

This build's Paragon is identical to @Moxsy's Apocalypse build — both share exactly the same boards and glyphs, which makes transitioning between the two variants straightforward. The starting board uses the Entropy glyph for Overpower damage and occult damage. The Demonic Spicules board with the Empowered glyph amplifies damage per Overpower stack and global Overpower multipliers. The Ritualism board with the Hellforge glyph grants 90% bonus damage per sigil skill cast — central since sigils are on permanent rotation.

The Chaos board with the Ichor Carapace glyph: occult skills deal 100% bonus damage, and the fluctuating Overpower rolls are reinforced here. The Pyrosis board with the Occultist glyph is not strictly necessary for this build but proves particularly effective for speed farming: the legendary node allows eliminating most packs without a prior ramp-up phase. The Occultist glyph ensures that applying hex, vulnerability, and weakened reduces enemy damage and increases our damage.

A final board with the Greater Hex glyph closes the circuit by reinforcing the permanent application of crowd control effects generated by the sigils.
