GUIDE PALADIN
Build Overview
This Paladin
Shield of Retribution build by @Viettzz pushes the concept of immortality to its absolute limit in Season 12. Through a precise synergy between
Endurant Faith and
Melted Heart of Selig, your character becomes literally invincible against the most fearsome Torment 7 bosses in the game.
The principle is simple yet devastating: massive hits you receive are first reduced by the gloves, then redirected to your primary resource (Faith) instead of your life. By stacking as much Faith per second as possible on your gear and keeping your life at its minimum, you create a perfect defensive loop where every incoming hit is absorbed without ever touching your health bar.
The result? You can face any Bloodied Seal Boss at difficulty +45 with fewer than 400 life points and only four gear pieces, taking zero damage. This is the ideal build for players struggling to survive against Torment 7 Bosses.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- Total immortality against Torment 7 Bosses thanks to damage redirection to Faith
- Works even with minimal gear (4 pieces are enough to be invincible)
- Zero death risk, allowing you to farm Bloodied Seals with complete peace of mind
- Variant of the
Shield of Retribution Paladin, the most powerful build of the season
Weaknesses
- Reduced damage compared to a standard
Shield of Retribution Paladin due to defensive trade-offs - Boss fights take longer due to the DPS loss
- Requires specific unique pieces (
Endurant Faith and
Melted Heart of Selig)
Recommended Gear
Table de Loot
This build's gear rests on two inseparable pillars. The
Endurant Faith, obtained from Gregoire, drastically reduce the massive hits you receive. Combined with the
Melted Heart of Selig, these reduced hits are absorbed by your Faith instead of your life, rendering the character invincible as long as your resource regenerates.
The
Ward of the White Dove is the reference shield for this build. Although it automatically adds maximum life (unavoidable on this piece), it offers the best synergies with
Shield of Retribution and Thorns.
Boots and pants must imperatively have the Faith per second affix to feed your primary resource and keep the damage-absorbing shield permanently active. It is crucial not to have maximum life as an affix on pieces where it is not mandatory: boots, pants and rings must be free of it. The lower your life, the less residual hits affect you.
Build Variants
This build is an extreme defensive variant of the classic
Shield of Retribution Paladin. If you already survive T7 Bosses without difficulty, the standard version of the build will be more efficient in terms of raw DPS, as it does not need to sacrifice offensive affixes for Faith regeneration.
For players who want a compromise between survival and damage, it is possible to keep the
Endurant Faith and the
Melted Heart of Selig while using offensive pieces on the other slots. Faith per second on boots alone can be enough for intermediate difficulty bosses (+30 to +40).
Gameplay Tips
The key to this build lies in managing your Faith. As long as your primary resource stays above zero, damage is absorbed by the
Melted Heart of Selig and you lose no life. Watch your Faith bar during intense fights: if it drops too low, space out your offensive skills to let regeneration do its work.
Bloodied Seal Boss keys at difficulty +45 can be obtained from various sources, including the renewable seasonal reputation cache. Do not hesitate to farm these keys in a loop since you are invincible: every fight is guaranteed with zero death risk.
When configuring your Paragon, systematically avoid nodes that increase your maximum life by percentage. Each additional life point increases the raw amount of hits you receive before reduction, which puts more pressure on your Faith. The less life you have, the more effective the build becomes.
Arbre des Talents
Mercenaire
Paragon and Glyphs
Paragon distribution is crucial for the build's immortality. The golden rule is simple: absolutely avoid all nodes that grant a percentage of maximum life. Each additional life point increases the raw damage received, which further taxes your Faith and can jeopardize the defensive loop.
Prioritize boards that reinforce Thorns,
Shield of Retribution damage and resource regeneration. Offensive glyphs remain relevant because the build needs to kill Bosses in a reasonable time despite the defensive trade-offs.
How the Immortality Loop Works
This build's mechanics rely on three mechanisms that chain together perfectly. First,
Endurant Faith considerably reduce the heavy hits you receive. Second,
Melted Heart of Selig redirects 100% of remaining damage to your Faith instead of your life. Third, the Faith per second affix on your boots and pants permanently regenerates the resource consumed by hits.
The counter-intuitive secret: having as little maximum life as possible
Rends the build more effective. The damage you receive is calculated in proportion to your maximum life. With only 300–400 life points, the hits reduced by the gloves become negligible and your Faith absorbs them effortlessly. This is why it is forbidden to take maximum life affixes on optional gear pieces and Paragon nodes.
