Build Overview

The Immortal Lunatic Warlock built by @RageGamingVideos is one of the most remarkable builds of Season 13: it combines near-indestructible survivability in active combat with the firepower to clear 110+ tiers without ever coming close to death. The core concept revolves around the Cage of MadnessCage of Madness, a unique helmet offering a 340% damage multiplier — a figure that would make any mythic weapon envious.

The immortality mechanic is as simple as it is effective. Each cast of Command Fallen summons four Lunatics that explode on enemies. This perpetual demon generation creates a cascade of Dominance, which in turn powers Tortured Wretch in a continuous loop — a summon that absorbs damage on your behalf and maintains a massive barrier through synergies with TemerityTemerity. The result: in combat, you are literally indestructible, to the point of tanking Torment 12 one-shot mechanics that Blizzard never intended players to survive.

The build also leverages the unique weapon Durge of Odium (used here as a unique charm, with the weapon slot occupied by legendaries with Greater Affixes): it grants bonus damage per point of Fury generated, and each Fury surplus above the maximum produces additional Dominance. Seed of Horazon in the amulet slot further amplifies this synergy, and the Undying AspectUndying Aspect in the boots permanently locks in the survivability floor. This build still has considerable room for improvement on perfect gear — and it already dominates the most demanding endgame content.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Active combat immortality: Tortured Wretch + TemerityTemerity + Undying AspectUndying Aspect form a permanent defensive wall
  • Monstrous damage multiplier via Cage of MadnessCage of Madness (340% on a perfect roll) — one of the best items of the patch
  • Smooth and repetitive gameplay with no complex management: hold Command Fallen, place Sigil of Summons on Bosses, press Metamorphosis once at the start of each activity
  • Exceptional mobility: Nether Step + Lunatic form via Evade for movement speed well above the cap
  • Natural scaling with gear: the more maximum Life and maximum Resource you have, the more damage and survivability increase — the build grows with you

Weaknesses

  • Dependency on unique gear: the four unique items (Cage of MadnessCage of Madness, Paingorger's GauntletsPaingorger's Gauntlets, TemerityTemerity, Seed of Horazon) have random non-craftable affixes — farming correct rolls takes time
  • Conditional DPS ceiling: maximum damage output requires Durge of Odium in the weapon slot + the mythic Horadric Seal to activate full set bonuses — pieces that most players do not have
  • Reduced efficiency when moving rapidly without Aspect of AdaptabilityAspect of Adaptability: in stationary content the Aspect of AdaptabilityAspect of Adaptability can be swapped for an offensive aspect, but resource regeneration becomes less consistent between packs

The Cage of MadnessCage of Madness in the helmet slot is the build's foundational piece and the only truly essential unique to get started. Its power lies in the damage multiplier for Command Fallen — a rare efficiency for a head slot. On the affix side, prioritize defensive stats (Life, Armor, Resistances) to amplify the synergy with Tortured Wretch, whose damage absorption scales with maximum Life.

The Paingorger's GauntletsPaingorger's Gauntlets fill the gloves slot with a proc triggered primarily by Tortured Wretch damage, then capitalized on by Command Fallen. These gloves directly amplify attack tempo and justify affixes focused on physical damage through tempering.

TemerityTemerity in the PantsPants slot is the keystone of passive defense: combined with the Undying AspectUndying Aspect in boots and the high cast rate of Command Fallen, it maintains a massive barrier at all times. Seed of Horazon in the amulet amplifies resource scaling and works in direct synergy with Durge of Odium to maximize Dominance generation.

The Aspect of MightAspect of Might on the chest reduces incoming damage after each basic skill strike — and since Command Fallen is a basic skill, this reduction is permanent. The Aspect of AdaptabilityAspect of Adaptability on the ring ensures Fury regeneration to maintain the Durge of Odium effect while moving, while the Aspect of the MoonriseAspect of the Moonrise on the offhand weapon provides a solid damage multiplier for this configuration without Durge in the weapon slot.

For runes, the Sears+Se runic word continuously generates wolves that apply Vulnerable to enemies, while Nagu+Prid permanently activates the Dark Prison Chain Aura variant for a constant damage resistance bonus. Recommended gems are Diamonds in jewelry, Skulls in weapons, and Sapphires in armor slots.

Gameplay Tips

The rotation is deliberately simple: activate Metamorphosis at the start of each activity, then never use it again. The build stays in demonic form permanently, giving you access to the associated passive damage bonuses without worrying about managing the ultimate. Hold Command Fallen down continuously — it is your main damage source and Dominance engine.

Use Sigil of Summons on Bosses and elite targets as a priority, on cooldown. Beyond the direct damage, the Sigil doubles your Lunatic summons during its duration through the Hellwyrm variant — your DPS literally explodes during these windows. Place Tortured Wretch whenever you have Dominance available, especially before slowing down or facing sustained content. The summon absorbs damage on your behalf as long as you remain within its radius.

For mobility between packs, combine Nether Step with Evade in Lunatic form: both speed boosts stack to reach movement speeds well above the cap. Reserve Nether Step for situations where you need burst damage reduction (its Damage Reduction modifier scales with the speed bonus), not only to cross the map.

Regarding potions, if you are surviving comfortably, intentionally drain your stock: the GuzzlerGuzzler glyph grants you 5% bonus damage and healing effectiveness per missing potion, up to 20% with zero potions. In endgame push scenarios where survival is assured, this is free DPS. If you feel the pressure, keep potions — their increased effectiveness will then feed TemerityTemerity for an even larger barrier.

Dark Prison is activated automatically by your runes — do not assign it to the skill bar. It generates a permanent circle that reduces incoming damage and weakens enemies inside. In content such as the Mephisto Realm, manually activate the projectile slow modifier rather than fortification when facing fast-projectile telegraph mechanics.

Talent Tree

Mercenary S13

Raheir is the main mercenary for this build. His skills Ground SlamGround Slam and BastionBastion fit naturally into the defensive philosophy of the Immortal Warlock: they provide an additional layer of WardWard and crowd control that further relieves pressure in extended fights. Choose the right path (Resistances) or left path (Armor) depending on which defensive stat you need to reach the caps.

As a reinforcement, Varyana with the BloodthirstBloodthirst skill offers an occasional attack speed bonus — a clean complement to increase the cast tempo of Command Fallen without sacrificing a main mercenary slot.

The Immortality Mechanic: Dominance → Tortured Wretch → Barrier

The immortality of this build is no gear accident — it is a deliberate mechanical loop. Each cast of Command Fallen summons four Lunatics, and every 15 hits received generate 1 Dominance. With the Mega Lunatic variant (each cast = 4 strikes), you generate Dominance at a sustained pace even without Durge of Odium. The latter further accelerates the loop by converting every 50 Fury surplus above the maximum into additional Dominance.

This Dominance is spent on Tortured Wretch through the Punching Bag variant: the summon created absorbs incoming damage on your behalf, with an absorption capacity that scales directly with your maximum Life. The more Life you have, the longer the shield holds. Meanwhile, permanently active Metamorphosis reduces the Dominance cost of Tortured Wretch, letting you respawn it even faster.

TemerityTemerity completes this triangle: the barriers generated by Tortured Wretch and the cast frequency of Command Fallen maintain a massive external barrier at all times. Should excessive damage breach all these layers, the Undying AspectUndying Aspect in the boots is your last line of defense. Together they form a redundant three-layer defensive system: damage absorption, external barrier, and passive regeneration — which RendRenders this build functionally immortal in active combat, including against Torment 12 one-shot mechanics.

Fury Scaling and Seed of Horazon: how damage takes off

Seed of Horazon and Durge of Odium work in tandem to create a self-amplifying damage scaling loop. Durge grants bonus damage for each active Fury point, but drains 10% of your Fury per second. The Aspect of AdaptabilityAspect of Adaptability on the ring compensates for this drain by regenerating the resource continuously, keeping Fury high even while moving.

Seed of Horazon, through the Horizan's Chains five-piece charm set, activates a bonus per active Soul Shard demon, and the five-piece bonus triggers the simultaneous summoning of all Soul Shard demons when you use their skill — massively activating all associated bonuses (execution on low-health targets, attack speed, damage reduction, increased Dominance generation). In the optimal version with Durge in the weapon slot and the mythic Horadric Seal to activate two set bonuses simultaneously, maximum Resource then becomes the most important stat to maximize across all gear.
