LEVELING NECROMANCIEN
Build Overview
The necromancer summoning speed leveling build is one of the most devastating leveling methods in Diablo 4 in Season 14: leading an army of 15 minions built entirely within the talent tree, you traverse Sanctuary without ever relying on drop luck. Presented by @Qube loves to play, this necromancer summoning build fully exploits the second DLC — Lord of Hatred — which integrates into the talent tree powers formerly reserved for unique items, such as the
Unyielding Commander of
Army of the Dead. The major innovation in this speed leveling guide lies in the transformation of the
Sever skill into a movement tool: combined with its
Inexorable Reaper upgrade, it offers mobility worthy of a Sorceress, without needing to reach maximum movement speed. Ideal for beginners and veterans alike looking to level up quickly, the build requires only one central action — curse with
Decrepify — and lets the army handle the rest.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
- Full army of 15 minions available before level 25, with no RNG
- Exceptional mobility thanks to
Sever transformed into chainable instant movement - Ultimate
Army of the Dead cooldown drastically reduced by
Decrepify curses - Near-absent rotation: only one essential active spell to manage
- Excellent for beginners discovering the mechanics of the Necromancer class
Weaknesses
- Slight fragility before level 15, until mobility is obtained via
Inexorable Reaper - Skeleton Warrior require the active command to precisely target an elite
Decrepify-based synergies: forgetting to curse slows down the ultimate's pace
Recommended Equipment
Loot Table
In speed leveling, equipment consists mainly of generic legendaries where affixes make all the difference. Maximize Intelligence and Life on as many pieces as possible — these are the two stats that drive your army's effectiveness and your survival. Two defensive slots (helmet, chest, pants, or boots) must carry Essence regeneration to fuel the chained mobility through
Sever. On gloves and the three jewelry pieces (amulet, two rings), target summoning damage; on the two-handed weapon, attack speed; on the helmet, lucky hit chance. Critical strike chance, critical damage, damage multiplier against vulnerable targets, and attack speed complete the offensive selection.
Two runewords significantly accelerate progression. The first, Moniqar, is inserted into your equipment from level 15 to bring critical hit chances and reinforce
Sever in offensive transition. The second runeword "Wax/Wolf" (nerfed in Season 14: it no longer applies vulnerability) retains solid damage output and freezes opponents. The four required runes are of low magic quality and are obtained naturally before level 70. As for aspects, the Aspect of Amplified Damage (60% additional DPS on targets cursed by
Decrepify) is the most impactful. The
Aspect of Reanimation, placed on the weapon, is the most powerful for pure summoning. The
Cadaverous Aspect amplifies all damage with each corpse consumption — something your Skeleton Warrior trigger automatically.
Necrotic Carapace ensures fortification. Among the uniques that simplify leveling,
Blood Moon Breeches stand out: they automatically apply
Iron Maiden to opponents, amplifying critical damage against cursed targets.
Horadric Talisman S14
For the Horadric Talisman of Season 14, the most valuable charms in speed leveling are those that grant experience bonuses per monster killed and additional ranks to summoning skills. Each additional rank on Skeleton Mage, Skeleton Warrior,
Golem, or
Army of the Dead directly amplifies your army's power far beyond what the talent tree allows alone. In the absence of these ideal charms, opt for survival options — elemental resistances, maximum life — or basic offensive stats (critical strike chance, attack speed) to maintain a high farming pace.
Gameplay Tips
The only central reflex of this necromancer summoning speed leveling build is to apply
Decrepify to as many targets as possible. This curse weakens enemies (reduces their inflicted damage — note, the game's tooltip mistakenly refers to vulnerability), and most importantly, each cursed enemy reduces active cooldowns by one second, melting the
Army of the Dead cooldown at an impressive rate. Engage a group: cast
Army of the Dead for the unstable skeleton explosion, activate the
Golem's command (it becomes unstoppable and forces all nearby enemies to attack it), and let your Skeleton Mage and Skeleton Warrior annihilate the area. Use the Skeleton Warrior active skill only to target a precise elite under your cursor — it is the only way to direct them toward a specific target.
For mobility, chain
Sever several times in a row: thanks to the
Inexorable Reaper upgrade and the Essence cost reduction, each activation propels your character forward almost instantly, ideal for blazing through Sanctuary maps. It is entirely possible to traverse entire zones without ever attacking directly: your minions handle the threats while you collect experience and loot as you advance.
Talent Tree
The talent tree of this necromancer summoning speed leveling build is constructed by following a logical progression, level by level. Levels 1 to 3 are dedicated to
Sever, the only effective basic skill for clearing groups at the very start. From level 3, Skeleton Mage are unlocked (ranged attackers dealing damage over time in shadow configuration), then Skeleton Warrior at level 4, bringing the army to five minions. Level 8 sees the
Golem arrive — with it, the army is already complete, well before the level 15 or 25 threshold required by the pre-DLC version. At level 13,
Decrepify joins the action bar; at level 15, points invested in
Sever are reallocated toward cost reduction and the
Inexorable Reaper upgrade, transforming this skill into a rapid movement tool. The assembled bonus on Skeleton Mage at level 15 adds two additional summons. At level 16, the Puppet Master node adds three more Skeleton Warrior.
Army of the Dead arrives at level 19 and completes the action bar; at level 20, the Tomb Blossom upgrade splits the
Golem into three for a devastating burst. The ultimate bonus of
Army of the Dead,
Unyielding Commander, unlocked at level 25, makes minions nearly invincible and multiplies the entire army's damage — this power was once exclusively reserved for a legendary aspect. The army then reaches its maximum strength of 15 minions.
Mercenary S14
Subo is the ideal main mercenary for speed leveling: it helps spot and quickly join monster groups on the map, and most importantly provides a valuable movement speed bonus as well as 25% additional critical damage that directly benefits your summoning army. Its signature skill
Cover Fire supports your advance throughout leveling, in perfect synergy with the mobility provided by
Sever.
As backup, Aldkin brings its
Flame Surge: this channeled attack triggers the cooldown reduction bonus linked to
Decrepify with each hit, allowing faster recovery of
Army of the Dead and other skills. A perfect complementary duo for smooth and uninterrupted leveling.
Paragon and Glyphs
This guide is entirely dedicated to the speed leveling 1 to 70 of the necromancer summoning build. The Paragon system only unlocks from level 60 and is not the priority focus of this phase of the game: the goal is to reach level 70 as quickly and efficiently as possible. Once this cap is reached, it is recommended to switch to a necromancer summoning endgame build with Paragon boards and glyphs optimized for endgame content.
