Build Overview

Ball LightningBall Lightning is, according to Mekuna, the best build in the game in Season 13. This version restores a mechanic that had been missing for a few seasons: permanent TeleportTeleport. Thanks to El'Druin, Sword of Justice, the cooldown of TeleportTeleport drops to 0.5 seconds, allowing the Sorceress to move continuously across the entire map without ever stopping.

The core of the build rests on two synergies. The first: the Crackling EnergyCrackling Energy generated by electric spells feeds Unstable CurrentsUnstable Currents, which in turn triggers additional spells and reduces cooldowns — keeping TeleportTeleport active nearly permanently. The second: Aspect of ArmageddonAspect of Armageddon triples the damage of Ball LightningBall Lightning as long as Unstable CurrentsUnstable Currents remains active, and maintaining this buff permanently is the central gameplay objective.

The FamiliarFamiliar also plays a key role: it continuously generates Crackling EnergyCrackling Energy, which helps keep Unstable CurrentsUnstable Currents active 100% of the time. Mekuna estimates that this build allows you to wipe packs instantly while moving at full speed, making it a top-tier choice for mass content.

Mekuna presents several orientations for this build depending on the type of content targeted. The version he recommends most for general progression and high-speed maps is Ultra Speed — he considers it to offer the best balance between mobility and efficiency. For players who wish to focus on Boss content, Mekuna indicates that it is sufficient to replace the Strike of StormhornStrike of Stormhorn with another suitable weapon. He also mentions the version he calls "Ballkuna", which remains viable but is according to him slightly slower. As for high-level Pit pushing, Mekuna explicitly advises against it for casual players.

Pros and Cons

✔ Pros

  • Permanent TeleportTeleport thanks to El'Druin, Sword of Justice
  • Extremely high AoE damage on enemy packs
  • Unmatched mobility — no downtime between TeleportTeleport casts
  • x3 damage multiplier via Aspect of ArmageddonAspect of Armageddon at 100% uptime
  • Excellent for Ultra Speed content and general progression
  • The mercenary Subo significantly improves quality of life

✘ Cons

  • Requires a mythic item (El'Druin, Sword of Justice) — obtained through mythic cages
  • The Pit pushing version is not recommended by Mekuna for casual players
  • Unstable CurrentsUnstable Currents must be maintained permanently — any interruption is very costly in terms of damage
  • Relatively demanding build in terms of affixes on legendary items

Mekuna presents the gear piece by piece. Here are the items he details in the video:

Heir of PerditionHeir of Perdition (Mythic Helm) — Mekuna looks for Critical Strike Chance, a bonus to Core Skills, and Maximum Life on this helm. It is the primary piece for survivability and boosting critical strike damage.

Raiment of the InfiniteRaiment of the Infinite (Chest) — This piece is kept for its overall robustness. Mekuna also mentions having a rune on this chest that he liked.

Legendary Gloves — The gloves host the Aspect of Overwhelming CurrentsAspect of Overwhelming Currents, which is central to keeping Unstable CurrentsUnstable Currents active permanently.

Esu's HeirloomEsu's Heirloom (Boots) — Mekuna values Movement Speed, the Critical Strike bonus tied to movement speed, and Evade charges on these boots — he has six charges on his boots.

El'Druin, Sword of Justice (Mythic Main Weapon) — The build's essential piece. It reduces the cooldown of TeleportTeleport to 0.5 seconds, enabling permanent TeleportTeleport. Mekuna specifies that it is obtained through mythic cages and is the most important item to target.

Strike of StormhornStrike of Stormhorn (Off-hand Weapon) — Mekuna uses this weapon for its attack speed and slots topaz gems into it. He notes that for the Boss version, this weapon can be replaced with something else.

Fractured WinterglassFractured Winterglass (Amulet) — This item procs additional conjurations and also provides damage reduction, according to Mekuna.

Ring of Starless SkiesRing of Starless Skies (Mythic Ring) — Mekuna indicates that this ring manages mana resources, essential for maintaining the flow of spells.

Mekuna also mentions the Seir and Ve runes to gain +3 ranks to all active skills.

Horadric Seal S13

Mekuna recommends prioritizing a legendary seal, targeting bonuses to shock skills. For the seal of enduring faith, he indicates this is the recommended option for beginners. He also specifies that it is possible to trade talismans through his Discord server to obtain good seals more quickly.

Gameplay Tips

The gameplay of this build rests on a simple principle that Mekuna details in depth: keep Unstable CurrentsUnstable Currents active 100% of the time to permanently benefit from the Aspect of ArmageddonAspect of Armageddon damage multiplier. To do so, he explains that you must continuously generate Crackling EnergyCrackling Energy via Chain LightningChain Lightning, Charged BoltsCharged Bolts, and the FamiliarFamiliar. The BoundlessBoundless node in the skill tree further increases the uptime of Unstable CurrentsUnstable Currents.

Charged BoltsCharged Bolts serves a dual role: it generates Crackling EnergyCrackling Energy but also applies a debuff on enemies, which improves overall damage. Mekuna stresses that TeleportTeleport with the WormholeWormhole upgrade must be used in constant motion to trigger the bonuses tied to Movement Speed, particularly on Esu's HeirloomEsu's Heirloom.

Ice ArmorIce Armor serves as an emergency shield and grants the Unstoppable status to escape dangerous situations. HydraHydra acts as a secondary cooldown reduction source. Lightning SpearLightning Spear contributes damage against Bosses thanks to its strong coefficient. BlizzardBlizzard combined with Static FieldStatic Field (as an enchantment) applies the Vulnerable status to enemies via the Talasha set, amplifying the damage of the entire composition.

For the enchantment tree, Mekuna uses TeleportTeleport and lightning as active enchantments, to permanently trigger additional effects. He also specifies that Ball LightningBall Lightning should be leveled to rank 15 with the OrbitalOrbital and Ferocity upgrades to maximize its impact.

Skill Tree

Mercenary S13

The mercenary chosen by Mekuna is Subo. He explains in detail why this mercenary is superior to the others for this build: his ability to display enemy packs on the minimap in orange represents, according to him, a considerable quality-of-life advantage, especially at high Movement Speed. Instantly spotting dense groups means never losing time between packs.

On the offensive side, Mekuna uses Subo's Wire TrapWire Trap skill. He also mentions the BastionBastion node as a source of 90% damage reduction when Ice ArmorIce Armor is active. Finally, Mekuna indicates that a Critical Strike damage node is also selected in the mercenary tree to amplify the build's overall damage.

Paragon and Glyphs

Mekuna details his Paragon tree, emphasizing the synergy between boards and glyphs. The main board uses the TacticianTactician glyph, paired with the Searing HeatSearing Heat Paragon node — a Paragon node that, according to Mekuna, provides a very significant damage multiplier against Vulnerable enemies. He cites this board first as it concentrates the bulk of offensive power.

The second major board hosts the ElementalistElementalist glyph and contains the Enchantment MasterEnchantment Master nodes. Mekuna also places the UnleashUnleash glyph there to amplify the damage of active skills.

The DestructionDestruction glyph is integrated on a board dedicated to raw damage. Finally, the AdeptAdept glyph is the one Mekuna describes as the glyph that "makes Ball LightningBall Lightning even bigger" — it literally increases the size and damage of Ball LightningBall Lightning, making it according to him one of the most important glyphs in the build.
