Cologne opens its doors again from August 26 to 30 for gamescom 2026, with an opening night the day before, on the 25th. Xbox arrives with 25 playable games, SEGA has just completed its lineup, Nintendo booked its booth back in May, and Sony still hasn’t confirmed anything.
Behind the schedule lies a constraint nobody puts on display but everyone feels: GTA 6 launches on November 19. The gamescom 2026 edition is the last big window to leave a mark before attention shifts elsewhere.
Here are the dates, the confirmed schedule publisher by publisher, and what’s still left to be announced.
gamescom 2026: the dates to remember
gamescom 2026 runs from Wednesday, August 26 to Sunday, August 30, at Koelnmesse, Cologne’s exhibition center in Germany. The opening conference, Opening Night Live, takes place the day before, on Tuesday, August 25. The official site sums up these dates in its banner: « #gamescom 26.-30.08.2026 » and « gamescom ONL: 25.08.2026 ». The organizers present the event as the biggest video game show in the world, and these five days in Cologne will serve as a unique showcase before the fall gaming season.

GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, a little under three months after the show closes on Sunday, August 30. gamescom 2026 therefore becomes the last big date on the calendar where a publisher can make its mark before Rockstar hogs all the attention at year’s end. This calendar proximity weighs on the studios showing their games in Cologne this year.
| Date | What’s happening |
|---|---|
| Tuesday, August 25 | Opening Night Live, the opening conference |
| Wednesday, August 26 | Show opens and first Xbox broadcast at 4pm CEST |
| Thursday, August 27 | Second Xbox broadcast at 4pm CEST |
| August 27 to 30 | Show open to the public in Cologne |
| Sunday, August 30 | gamescom 2026 closes |
August is usually a quiet month for releases, wedged between summer blockbusters and the back-to-school rush. This edition therefore packs most of the fall gaming announcements into a single week, between Tuesday evening’s opening conference and the two Xbox broadcasts scheduled at 4pm CEST on the following two days.
Cologne then welcomes the public for four days, from August 27 to 30, before the show closes on Sunday. Publishers who miss Opening Night Live still get an extra window to make announcements during the public weekend.
Opening Night Live, August 25: the real kickoff
Geoff Keighley kicks things off on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the day before the show opens. The Canadian producer, also known for hosting the Game Awards, presents Opening Night Live, the conference that sets the tone for the whole of gamescom 2026. Two hours of world premieres, trailers and exclusive announcements await viewers, with developers stopping by to present their projects live.
The broadcast is free and available worldwide on YouTube, Twitch and Steam. The show starts at 8pm CEST, preceded by a short pre-show. Tickets to attend the event in person are already sold out. The official gamescom site even directly invites fans to follow the broadcast online rather than hunt for a seat.

It promises world premieres, exclusive announcements and surprises, with new trailer reveals and never-before-seen gameplay footage. Guest interviews are announced, along with a first look at the highlights expected during the show. The wording stays deliberately vague, to leave room for the unexpected.
Most of the year’s surprise announcements drop during this evening. The rest of the show is mainly for trying out already-revealed games controller in hand at the booths. Many players stay wary of this kind of big announcement fest, burned before by the gap between conference promises and what actually ships. For anyone who can only follow one single gamescom moment this year, this is the one to circle.
Xbox arrives with 25 playable games for its 25th anniversary
Xbox is going big for gamescom 2026. In an announcement published on Xbox Wire on July 28, 2026 and signed by Maxi Graeff, the brand confirms 25 playable games spread across 140 stations. The number is no coincidence: Xbox is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and this booth serves as a showcase for the occasion.
The meeting point is in hall 7, spot A-0.61. Opening hours follow the show’s calendar: Thursday, August 27 and Friday, August 28 from 10am to 8pm, then Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30 from 9am to 8pm, local Cologne time (same as Paris). Two live broadcasts are scheduled even before the show opens, on Wednesday, August 26 and Thursday, August 27 at 4pm CEST.

Seven games headline the booth. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 offers its multiplayer mode, Gears of War: E-Day unveils its campaign in public for the first time, and Fable gets a live demo in its own dedicated space. Minecraft Dungeons II, METRO 2039, Stranger Than Heaven and Alien: Isolation 2 round out the lineup.
| Game | What’s shown |
|---|---|
| Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 | Multiplayer mode |
| Gears of War: E-Day | Campaign, first public demo |
| Fable | Live demo in a dedicated space |
| Minecraft Dungeons II | Playable at the booth |
| METRO 2039 | Playable at the booth |
| Stranger Than Heaven | Playable at the booth |
| Alien: Isolation 2 | Playable at the booth |
Other titles orbit around this core. Halo: Campaign Evolved, Forza Horizon 6 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 each get their own space, separate from the main booth. Nearby, you’ll also find Alien Deathstorm, Bad Magpie, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, Crowsworn, Genigods: Nezha, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, Star Wars Zero Company, Terrible Lizards, Turok: Origins and Valor Mortis.
Release dates remain scarce in this announcement. Fable is locked in for February 23, 2027, while Stranger Than Heaven and METRO 2039 are targeting winter 2026, with no exact day yet.
According to TrueAchievements, quoting Lee Brady in a July 29, 2026 article, some booth spots haven’t been publicly assigned yet. More announcements could therefore land before the show opens. This mobilization stands in sharp contrast with Xbox’s mood over the past few months, marked by layoffs and criticism of its strategy. Seeing the brand invest this many gaming stations and new titles into a single booth is worth paying attention to.
SEGA, Nintendo, Krafton: who else will be there, and who’s missing
SEGA has updated its game lineup for gamescom 2026. On August 3, Final Weapon (article by Soul Kiwami) reported the additions announced by the publisher: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, SONIC PICO PARK and Metaphor: ReFantazio on Switch 2.
The official SEGA booth artwork shows even more. Persona 4 Revival, Total War: Warhammer 40,000, Alien: Isolation 2, Crazy Taxi and Stranger Than Heaven all appear there, with no further details for now on any of these titles.

Nintendo confirmed its presence back in May, among the very first exhibitors registered for gamescom 2026. No schedule details have leaked since. The booth is set, but its content remains secret.
Krafton, for its part, is expected with new content around the PUBG universe, with no details published so far. Sony hasn’t confirmed anything officially. The publisher’s name circulates on some speculative lists, without any announcement from the company itself.
| Publisher | Status | What’s expected |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox | Confirmed | 25 playable games across 140 stations, hall 7 |
| SEGA | Confirmed | Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, SONIC PICO PARK, Metaphor: ReFantazio (Switch 2), and the other games visible on the booth artwork |
| Nintendo | Confirmed | Booth booked back in May, no schedule details announced |
| Krafton | Confirmed | New content from the PUBG universe |
| Sony | Not confirmed | No official announcement to date |
Sony’s absence from the show wouldn’t be trivial. PlayStation has distanced itself from big trade shows in recent years, favoring its own broadcasts instead. Still, nothing indicates the company won’t show up: the absence of confirmation doesn’t equal confirmation of absence.
The real stakes of this edition: standing out before GTA 6
The release of GTA 6, set for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, weighs on the entire year-end gaming calendar. gamescom 2026 runs from August 26 to 30. That leaves less than three months between the two milestones, a gap that shapes what publishers choose to show this year.
A game of this scale doesn’t just take players’ money, it mostly takes their time and attention. Publishers traditionally avoid releasing their own titles in the window surrounding this kind of launch. Several have already pushed back their launch dates to avoid the clash. The result: gamescom becomes the last big stage where a game not launching before November can still leave a mark.

Fable illustrates this calculation well. The game is dated February 23, 2027, several months after the GTA 6 wave and its media rollout. Showing it now as a live demo at gamescom is precisely about staying in players’ minds before their attention shifts entirely to Rockstar.
Xbox hasn’t unveiled its entire booth. According to Lee Brady, a journalist at TrueAchievements, on July 29, 2026, the brand is deliberately keeping some spots unannounced. More reveals therefore remain possible before the show opens on August 26. The schedule was already widely reported starting July 29 by the gaming press, notably Pure Xbox, written by Craig Reid.
Nothing guarantees that an announcement made in August will stick in players’ memories once GTA 6 launches in November. Yet that’s exactly the bet every publisher at this year’s show is making.
