On September 5, we wrote that Nintendo blew out Zelda’s 40 candles without saying a word about the games (a silence we pointed out). Three days later, that silence broke all at once. The Direct, Nintendo’s online show where it presents its games, confirmed the Ocarina of Time remake for Switch 2 on November 5, 2026, at $59.99 for the digital version and $69.99 for the boxed version in the United States, £49.99 in the United Kingdom. Ocarina of Time launches November 5, exclusively on Switch 2
The game’s page on Nintendo’s US site confirms a total exclusive. The remake won’t come to the older Switch, only to Switch 2, starting November 5, 2026. NintendoReporters, which followed the live presentation, describes a tight thirty minute show, built entirely around this one game and the celebrations surrounding it.
That date isn’t a coincidence. According to TheGamer, the November 5 release puts Ocarina of Time two weeks ahead of GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, expected November 19. The site notes that Nintendo is one of the few publishers not pushing back its schedule to avoid that commercial clash.
$60 digital, $70 boxed, and no clarity in France
The price took two days to settle. On September 7, Nintendo Everything spotted an update to the Australian Nintendo Store showing AU$94.95 for the digital version. The next day, right after the Direct, the US price landed. The digital version costs $59.99, the boxed version $69.99. Nintendo is following the rule it set this year for Switch 2, where the boxed version costs more than the digital one, a ten dollar gap on this remake, just like on Yoshi.
Nintendo Life, which followed the same presentation, confirms these same figures for the United States and gives the UK price, £49.99, as well as the Australian price of AU$94.95. The official Direct page on Nintendo UK’s site also highlights that UK price, under the line « your adventure begins November 5. » Nintendo has set aside a textured metallic box art for the first physical print run, while supplies last.
That price sits alongside other recent remakes, according to Nintendo Everything. Star Fox, released earlier this year, cost $50 digital and $60 boxed. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book listed at $60 digital and $70 boxed in the United States, the same price as Ocarina of Time in Australia, AU$94.95. The Zelda remake sits one notch above Star Fox, level with Yoshi. The Switch 2 catalog already counts other premium reworks, like Elden Ring Tarnished Edition.
No official source gives a price for the French eShop, the console’s digital store. The only indication comes from a retailer. The E.Leclerc product page lists the remake at €51.49 for preorder, available 11/05/26, rated PEGI 12, Europe’s age classification. That price, set by a retailer and not by Nintendo, remains the only reference point for French players so far.
What the remake really changes in Hyrule
The N64 pad forced an automatic jump whenever Link got near a ledge. On Switch 2, that behavior is gone. Jumping gets its own button, the camera moves freely with the right stick, and a dedicated key finally lets you run without chaining rolls. TheGamer, which saw this new gameplay during the Direct, also notes the addition of a system that tracks current objectives, built for players picking the game back up after a break.
NintendoReporters details the rest of the changes. Cutscenes are now fully voiced, with dialogue expanded compared to the original version, and the soundtrack has been re-recorded by an orchestra. The remake also adds a system called Threads of Time, which sums up story progress and upcoming objectives. The day and night cycle keeps running even while Link stays in a town, which changes how you move through Hyrule.
A more unexpected feature uses the Switch 2’s microphone. Hum a tune Link already knows, and he plays it back on the ocarina without you having to find the right sequence of buttons. Nintendo will sell two matching accessories alongside this feature, a playable ocarina and an electronic model from HORI, both able to input full melodies.
A collector’s Switch 2 arrives October 29
A week before the game’s release, Nintendo is launching its own console dressed for the occasion. The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition console arrives October 29, 2026, with Triforce patterns on the machine, the dock, and the Joy-Con 2 controllers. NintendoReporters notes that the bundle comes with a matching Pro controller, sold with an optional display stand, and a case with a built-in screen protector.
Nintendo hasn’t said whether a game comes bundled with this console. The Ocarina of Time remake, meanwhile, is up for preorder separately. TheGamer confirmed preorders opened right after the Direct ended. Other games have already gotten this premium treatment on the console, like Elden Ring Tarnished Edition in its Switch 2 version.
ZELDA NOTES, amiibo, and electronic ocarinas
ZELDA NOTES, the companion mobile app inside the Nintendo Switch app, is getting expanded for this remake. NintendoReporters lists several additions. Today’s Record offers a daily rundown of the player’s exploits, like the number of enemies defeated. Gossip Quest is a clue hunt that unlocks sheet music to play afterward. Play Ocarina turns the phone’s touchscreen into an instrument, with a guide, an automatic mode, or the option to compose and share your own tunes by QR code. A quiz with more than 2,000 questions about Ocarina of Time rounds out the app, as a daily challenge.
The rest of the merchandise stretches across all of 2027. Two amiibo figures, chip-equipped toys that unlock in-game content, depict Young Link and Young Zelda, and unlock masks styled after the original game’s visuals. LEGO is preparing a Link and Epona set for spring 2027, aimed at adult collectors, while Hasbro releases its own electronic replica of the Master Sword, with sounds triggered by touch and motion, that same season.
Concerts, a museum, and a movie through 2027
The celebration continues outside the games too. NintendoReporters lists a 40th anniversary concert tour that kicks off in Tokyo on January 23, 2027, then moves to Chicago on February 22, London on April 3, and Melbourne on May 13. The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto will roll out new content starting November 5, the game’s release day.
On its official page, Nintendo UK also confirms the release of the « The Legend of Zelda » movie in theaters worldwide on April 30, 2027. No other details about the film leaked during this Direct focused on the game.
Nintendo isn’t slowing down. A second Direct, this time focused on Switch 2’s winter lineup, is set to run today at 4 PM Paris time, for 45 minutes. Its content hasn’t been revealed yet.
