Dates and Times, Including French Time
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct is scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time, 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time, which is 4 p.m. in France. Its announced length is around 30 minutes, according to Nintendo’s official page.
The next day, Wednesday, September 9, a standard Nintendo Direct takes over at the same US times, so also 4 p.m. in France. Its announced length rises to around 45 minutes, a format closer to the company’s usual general presentations.

What Nintendo Says, Word for Word
On its dedicated page, Nintendo UK doesn’t go much further than the date and the length. The official text reads: « Join us on Tuesday, September 8th at 15:00 (UK time) for The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct. The livestream will last roughly 30 minutes and will contain a variety of The Legend of Zelda-related information about the series’ 40th anniversary. » Nothing more specific comes with that line.
No game is named. Not Ocarina of Time, nor any other title in the series. The wording stays deliberately broad: Nintendo promises information about the franchise without saying which.
On the US page, the only additional information concerns September 9: « After the Nintendo Direct on Sept 9, tune in to Nintendo Treehouse: Live | September 2026 to watch gameplay of select titles featured during the Nintendo Direct. » That line concerns the general Direct, not the one dedicated to the series.
What the Press Imagines, and Why It’s Just Guesswork
Two theories keep coming up among specialized outlets. The first concerns the Ocarina of Time remake, announced in June 2026 with very few images. Many expect Nintendo to show more of it during this anniversary Direct. The Switch 2’s recent track record gives them an argument: Elden Ring’s Tarnished Edition was also announced in a few seconds before being detailed much later.
The second theory involves the live-action Zelda film, set for April 30, 2027. Its first trailer hasn’t come out yet, and the show’s date could lend itself to that. Gematsu, under Sal Romano’s byline, presents both theories as player expectations, not as information confirmed by Nintendo.
Neither hypothesis appears in the official communications cited above. They rest on dates that line up nicely and on Nintendo’s habit of saving new content for this kind of show. Nothing rules out the Direct showing neither in the end.
Why the Zelda Anniversary Gets Its Own Nintendo Direct
Dedicating an entire show to the anniversary isn’t a small thing. The series was born in Japan in 1986, and celebrating Zelda’s 40th anniversary calls for a tone that commercial presentations don’t have. On one side a tribute, on the other a catalog of releases.
A single show would have mixed heritage with upcoming games, risking diluting both messages. By separating the formats, Nintendo can devote 30 minutes to the franchise’s legacy without forcing the next day’s Direct to keep that tone. The company has been tending to this register for a few months, as shown by Donkey Kong 64’s AI-free PC port.
Neither content nor guests have been confirmed for either show. According to Nintendo Everything, the announcement came through the now-usual Nintendo Today! app, without a traditional press release. Both dates are known, and so are the times. The content itself will be revealed Tuesday and Wednesday.
