Build Overview
This Witch build revolves around
Coiling Bolts, a projectile spell granted by the unique sceptre
Liminal Coil. The result plays like a wander build from the original Path of Exile, except here the projectiles coil across the screen as a spell: they sweep through monster packs while simultaneously focusing enormous pressure on single targets. It is a true Endgame build designed for Tier 17 map farming as well as pinnacle bossing.
The chosen ascendancy is Blood Mage. It contributes two essential things to the archetype: a critical strike chance bonus that multiplies Coiling Bolts damage, and resilience through the life reservation that replaces mana for casting spells. Damage relies on chaos and on stacking a large number of curses —
Vulnerability,
Despair and a
Blasphemy aura — which melt the resistance and defenses of everything on screen.
The build is viable from mid-game through the most demanding Endgame content. The source video shows it clearing the Arbiter of Ash, Xesht, Bodach, Raven Trickster, Simulacrum waves, and Tier 17 The Patriarch Halls maps — proof of its versatility across the hardest content of the season.
Strengths / Weaknesses
✅ Strengths
- Versatile: excellent map clear AND single target against pinnacle bosses
- Colossal damage output through curse stacking (Vulnerability, Despair, Blasphemy)
- Resilient: Blood Mage life reservation provides a solid survivability buffer
- High critical strike chance provided natively by the ascendancy
- Sniper’s Mark delivers a devastating damage spike against bosses
- Tested against the hardest content: Tier 17, Simulacrum, Arbiter, Xesht
❌ Weaknesses
- Entirely dependent on the Liminal Coil unique sceptre, usable only at level 78
- Leveling required with a different spell (Spark or Essence Drain/Contagion) until the weapon is unlocked
- Life management as Blood Mage demands discipline: no mana safety net whatsoever
- High mental load: multiple curses and Sigil of Power to maintain during combat

The gear revolves around one absolute cornerstone piece and defensive statistics that support the Blood Mage archetype. The interactive grid below details each slot; here are the key points:
- Weapon: Liminal Coil — the unique sceptre that grants Coiling Bolts. This is the heart of the build, usable from level 78 onward.
- Stat priorities: maximum life (critical for Blood Mage), critical strike chance, chaos and spell damage, as well as capped elemental and chaos resistances.
- Leveling uniques: Earthbound,
Ghostwrithe,
Lochtonial Caress,
Goldrim,
Wanderlust,
Doedres Damning and
Stone of Lazhwar accompany the leveling process before transitioning to the Endgame set. - Jewels: choose to reinforce life, critical strike chance, and chaos damage according to the available sockets on the passive tree.
Gameplay Tips
- Pre-cursing: apply Vulnerability and Despair on packs before channeling Coiling Bolts to maximize damage.
- Blasphemy as an aura: automatically maintains defense-reduction curses around you, with no manual input required.
- Sniper’s Mark on bosses: mark the single target to trigger a massive damage spike during burst phases.
- Sigil of Power: place the sigil before a boss encounter to benefit from its damage boost.
- Life management:
Life Remnants generates life remnants to pick up, sustaining Blood Mage’s life cost — stay mobile to collect them. - Withering Presence: maintains Withered stacks on targets, increasing the chaos damage they receive.
Liminal Coil: the weapon that defines the build
The entire archetype rests on a single item: Liminal Coil. This unique sceptre grants the Coiling Bolts skill, a spell that fires lightning bolts that snake through the area. Without this weapon, the build does not exist — it is what transforms a classic Witch into a projectile machine.
The main constraint is the level requirement: Liminal Coil can only be equipped at level 78. Before that threshold, you must progress with another skill (see the leveling section below). Once the weapon is equipped, Coiling Bolts becomes your sole source of offensive damage and the rest of the build is constructed to support it.
Why the Blood Mage ascendancy
The choice of Blood Mage is no accident. This Witch ascendancy pays for spells with life rather than mana, which completely frees up the mana pool and allows it to be converted into survivability. In exchange, it grants a significant bonus to critical strike chance that pairs perfectly with Coiling Bolts’ damage profile.
The downside is that you must constantly manage your life. That is where Life Remnants comes in: the skill generates life remnants to pick up on the battlefield, compensating for the life cost of casting. Played well, the Blood Mage ascendancy offers an excellent balance between offensive power and resilience.
Curse stacking: the damage engine
The signature of this build is the number of curses active simultaneously. Vulnerability and Despair are applied to the ground via their supports (Cursed Ground, Heightened Curse, Ritualistic Curse) to cover large areas. At the same time, a Blasphemy aura continuously spreads
Temporal Chains,
Elemental Weakness,
Enfeeble and Repulsion over everything around you.
This stacking drastically reduces enemy resistances and offensive effectiveness, while amplifying the chaos damage they take. Combined with Withering Presence building up Withered stacks, the result is a disarmed and hyper-vulnerable target before it even absorbs the first Coiling Bolts projectile.
Progression and leveling to level 78
Since Liminal Coil can only be equipped at level 78, leveling is done with a transitional skill. Two options recommended by the author:
Spark for fast, explosive gameplay, or the
Essence Drain +
Contagion combination for a safer, chaos-oriented leveling experience — which also prepares you well for the final damage profile.
On the gear side, several budget-friendly uniques smooth out progression: Earthbound, Ghostwrithe, Lochtonial Caress, Goldrim, Wanderlust, Doedre’s Damning, and Stone of Lazhwar. They cover life, regeneration, resistances, and curse management until you reach the switchover point to the endgame build.
Endgame performance
Once fully set up, the build handles all end-of-game content. The source video demonstrates runs on Tier 17 The Patriarch Halls maps, Simulacrum waves, and pinnacle boss fights: Arbiter of Ash, Xesht, Bodach, Raven Trickster, and Phyx, Sentinel of the Spark.
The build’s strength comes from its dual identity: Coiling Bolts clears the screen on maps, while the addition of Sniper’s Mark and Sigil of Power concentrates enough damage to break the health bars of the toughest bosses. It is a complete build, capable of chaining map farming and elite content alike without changing configuration.
