On September 10, the site published « Sunwell Phase 4: The Date BlizzCon Must Give ». The finding fit in one sentence: no date existed for Burning Crusade Classic’s Phase 4, and Blizzard was pushing the question to its own event. BlizzCon 2026 was held on September 12 and 13 at the Anaheim Convention Center, in California.
The opening ceremony and the WoW panels have come and gone. An answer exists, noted on September 13 while the second day was still underway, and it won’t please Burning Crusade Classic players. On Sunwell Plateau, the expansion’s final raid, BlizzCon said nothing. No date, no hint, no promise. It talked about another game.
Seven Posts, Zero Lines on Sunwell
The official World of Warcraft news page lists seven posts around BlizzCon. « World of Warcraft at BlizzCon 2026: Discover What’s Next. » « Carve a New Path with World of Warcraft: Forever. » « Pre-Purchase World of Warcraft: Forever Upgrades. » « Midnight 12.1.5 Overview. » « Tales Take a Dark Turn in Midnight’s Talebound. » « Celebrate BlizzCon 2026 with the World of Warcraft BlizzCon Bundle! » And « September is a Great Month to Celebrate Friendship at the Trading Post. » Seven titles. None on Burning Crusade Classic.
This silence confirms what our September 10 article already found. Blizzard never set a day for Sunwell. BlizzCon changed nothing about that absence. It simply made it final for this edition.
What Blizzard Announced Instead
The official « World of Warcraft at BlizzCon 2026 » recap covers two subjects, and neither is Classic. On the Midnight side, an update titled Eclipse facing Xal’atath, then The Last Titan, the final chapter of the World Soul Saga. The return takes place in Northrend, with full details promised for early 2027. On the Forever side, a release announced for November 4, 2026 at 3:00 PM Pacific Time, an open beta starting September 17, a new playable race named Skyborne, and progression up to level 60 in a reimagined Azeroth.
Two announcements, two precise dates, two modern games. Burning Crusade Classic appears in neither block. Midnight advances its own saga, Forever relaunches the game from its foundations. BlizzCon 2026 wasn’t built to talk about Sunwell.
World of Warcraft: Forever Took All the Airtime
The panel dedicated to World of Warcraft: Forever details dense content. More than 1,000 new quests between levels 1 and 60. Four zones: Mount Hyjal, Shen’dralas, Riverglades with more than 150 quests for levels 30 to 40, and Zephras Isle for levels 1 to 12. Nine dungeons: Hall of Thanes, Ruins of Lordaeron, Whelgar’s Excavation Site, City of Dalaran, Blackmaw Hold, Drowned City, Krol’dok Stronghold, Alcaz Prison, and Shaper’s Terrace. Two raids, Hyjal Summit for 20 players and Barrow Deeps for 10 players at the level cap. A 15-versus-15 battleground, Darkspear Islands. Nine dungeons, two raids, a new race, a rebuilt Azeroth. That volume explains why BlizzCon devoted its airtime to this project rather than to an expansion released in 2007. Sunwell had no place in that panel.
Where Burning Crusade Classic Really Stands
On the Anniversary realms, Phase 3 opened on August 27, 2026. It unlocked Black Temple and Battle of Mount Hyjal, the two tier 6 raids. Our article on this move to Phase 3 details the mechanics and the prerequisites. Arena season 3 has been running since September 1 in North America and since September 2 in Europe. On the Anniversary realms, tier 6 has therefore been fully playable for close to three weeks, arena included.
Phase 4 will open Sunwell Plateau, where Kil’jaeden waits. The WoW Classic 2026 roadmap places it « later in 2026, » with no day or week given.
