On November 4, you will have three ways to level your first character: figure it out alone with the map, install a free addon, or pay for a ready-made route. Which WoW Forever leveling addon deserves your time? The answer depends on what you want, and above all on what actually exists today, October 5, while the beta tops out at level 30.

I read the official pages, the release notes and the community comparisons. I have not yet tested each WoW Forever leveling addon in game, so I tell you where each piece of information comes from. One thing to keep in mind: Forever is not Classic Era with extras. According to wowforever.be, the game adds four new zones, more than 1,000 new quests and changes the dungeon experience. A Classic route is therefore not enough.
Questie: free, but the new quests are missing
Questie shows on the map where to pick up and turn in quests, and where to kill what you are asked to. It does not tell you in what order to do things. It is an annotated map, not a route.

Forever support arrived with version 12.0.1, released on September 25: the line « Added Forever client support » opens the changelog. A 12.0.2 followed on September 28, then a 12.0.3 on September 30, which fixes a Journal error on Forever, among other things.
The limit is in the data. According to MMonster’s guide, Questie’s quest database comes from Classic, so the quests Forever adds, in the new zones for example, have no marker. Players can record their sessions with QuestieTrace and send them to the team to fill the database. In practice, in the four brand-new zones, you may end up searching the old-fashioned way until that work is done.
Questie suits the player who likes to explore, already knows Classic and just does not want to miss an NPC. It does not suit the player who wants to be told where to go.
Guidelime: free, with routes written by the community
Guidelime is a step-by-step guide addon: it tracks your quests, shows an arrow and offers the next step. It contains no route by itself, it reads guides that other people write. Its version 6.000, released on September 24, announces in its release notes an « initial work to support WoW Forever ». The word « initial » matters: support is not complete. Updates have followed, up to 6.003 on October 4.

The wowforever.be comparison, dated September 19, said you had to wait for an author to write the Forever route. Since then, it has happened: the free guide TUGs Leveling Guide announces, for Forever, all starting zones, levels 12 to 30 written with beta access, and levels 30 to 60 updated after release. The author says the Classic 30 to 60 route is included in the meantime. Its last Forever update dates from October 3, and he states that his guide will stay free.
This is not a publisher product: a volunteer, a beta capped at level 30, and no guarantee about what comes next. But on the WoW Forever leveling addon front, it is the only free option that gives you a real route right now.
RestedXP: free addon, paid guide
Here you need to separate two things. The RestedXP Guide addon is free and supports Forever; its CurseForge page shows an update from October 4 (version 4.11.15). According to RestedXP, levels 1 to 20 are free in the addon, as its CurseForge page also states. Beyond that, you need the paid guide.

The guide costs $30 per faction or $45 for both, and it is not a finished product. According to this comparison, the publisher released three zone updates between September 22 and 25, but the dungeon routes and the Forever-specific level 35 to 60 routes come out after launch. Until then, the Classic routes take over. I go into all of this in the article on the RestedXP guide.
To try it without paying, install the addon and play the first twenty levels. If you like the arrow, the RestedXP Forever guide is sold with the 10% discount applied automatically. It is pointless if you level a single character slowly, reading every quest: you would be paying for a speed you do not want.
Zygor: the subscription that arrives at launch
Zygor is the most expensive and the least advanced. Its September 15 post announces that the Forever guides will be included in the Elite subscription at no extra cost, available at launch. The publisher also writes that, given the level restrictions in the beta, it may be limited in what it covers at first. No guide has come out during the beta.

On price, the publisher gives none in this post. wowforeverguides.com lists $15 a month or $40 a quarter for Elite, and warns that a partial 1 to 60 update could come out first. Check these rates on Zygor’s site before subscribing, they come from a third party.
The appeal of Zygor is the rest of the library: dungeons, gear, gold, reputations. If you already have one for another game, Forever comes free. If you only come to level from 1 to 60, you pay a subscription for a guide nobody has seen running.
The comparison at a glance
| Addon | Price | Forever on October 5 | What it does | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Questie | Free | Supported since 12.0.1 (Sept. 25) | Quest markers on the map | No route; new Forever quests have no marker |
| Guidelime + TUGs guide | Free | Levels 12 to 30 written in beta, 30 to 60 after release | Step-by-step guide with arrow | Volunteer author; Forever support announced as initial |
| RestedXP | Free addon; guide $30 per faction or $45 for both | Levels 1 to 20 free; 35 to 60 routes after release | Speedrunner routes, arrow, quest tracking | Paid guide still a work in progress |
| Zygor | Elite subscription ($15 a month according to a third party) | No guide during the beta; planned for launch | Leveling, dungeons, gear, gold | Nothing to test before November 4 |
Which WoW Forever leveling addon for which player
- You want to level fast and are fine with a volunteer author: Guidelime with the TUGs guide. Free, already written up to level 30.
- You want to try a publisher route without paying: the free RestedXP addon, from level 1 to level 20.
- You have several characters to level or a guild waiting for you: the paid RestedXP guide may be worth its price, as long as you accept that it is a work in progress.
- You want to discover the new quests by reading: Questie alone is enough, and it will cost you nothing.
- You already pay for Zygor: wait for launch, you will get it at no extra cost.

@Kami
