It’s THE question I get nonstop under my YouTube videos and live on Twitch: do WoW Forever beta characters carry over to launch?
Here, we answer with Blizzard’s own sources, no guessing. And we look at what your beta still leaves you, because there are things to save before October 21.
No, WoW Forever beta characters don’t carry over to launch
The beta closes on October 21. On launch day, everyone recreates their character at level 1, no exception.
The worldwide launch is set for November 4, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST, which is November 5 at midnight Paris time, according to the Blizzard article of September 12. That is why American players talk about “November 4” and French players about “November 5”. Access is included in the WoW subscription.

In the press, Eric O’Dea of Blizzard Watch says it plainly on September 28: “When the beta test ends, all characters will be deleted and all progress will be wiped.”
What Blizzard wrote, and what it didn’t
Here is the exact sentence from the beta opening announcement, published by Blizzard on September 17: “The beta will be available through October 21, the last full day of testing, as we begin final preparations for the launch of World of Warcraft: Forever.” The level cap is set at 20, then 30. The switch to 30 happened on October 1, which we cover in our level 30 article.

That sentence gives an end date. It says nothing about what happens to characters. In its two announcements, the September 12 one on pre-orders and the September 17 one, Blizzard never writes “your characters will be deleted”. On the official forum, no employee replied in the threads I checked.
For WoW Forever beta characters, though, there is no real doubt. The beta servers close on October 21. Character creation for name reservation opens on October 27. At launch, on November 4 (November 5 in Europe), everyone starts again at level 1. And a wipe (a full reset of characters) is Blizzard’s usual practice at the end of its betas. It’s a deduction, but an airtight one.
You can reserve the name, but you can’t keep the character
Of your WoW Forever beta characters, only one thing survives to launch: the name, under conditions. It’s written in Blizzard’s article of September 12, 2026: “Early Name Reservation will be available from October 27 through November 3 … included with any upgrade purchase. You can create and customize up to three characters during this period, with character names reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Desired names cannot be guaranteed.”

It boils down to four conditions:
- a higher edition: Skyborne Heroic Pack, Skyborne Epic Pack or Warcraft Forever Collection;
- a short window: October 27 to November 3;
- three characters at most, created and customized during that period;
- no guarantee: first come, first served.
Two wrong ideas are going around. The first ties the reservation to beta access. It actually comes with buying a higher edition, even the cheapest one, the Heroic Pack, which doesn’t include the beta. The second says the name you used in the beta is yours afterwards. It isn’t: you have to claim it again on October 27, before everyone else.
So prepare two or three backup names. If someone takes your first choice during the window, you won’t have time to look for another.
Why the wipe is good news
I play high-level PvP, and my opinion is clear: the wipe is a good thing.
The beta is a work site. The talent tree structure was corrected three times in two weeks: on September 22, September 29 and October 1. The October 1 patch redesigned Fury Warrior. One talent moves to Protection, three talents disappear and three new ones arrive. Druids, for their part, lose King of the Jungle.
A beta character was built with rules that will no longer exist. Around it pile up exploited bugs, hoarded gold and items obtained before fixes. None of that should enter the final game.
And then there’s the shared start. Everyone at level 1 the same night means a race to max level, a fresh economy where nobody has a head start, guilds starting on equal footing. For world PvP (open-world fights, with no arena or ruleset), nobody shows up five weeks ahead.
I’d rather lose my beta level than meet players on November 5 who are five weeks ahead of me. An even start is what I ask of a launch.
On the official forum, the question has been going around since day one
On Twitch and YouTube, people ask me constantly. It doesn’t only come from my channel. On September 16, the day before the beta opened, a player named Banquette started a thread on the official US forum titled “Will Beta chars continue into full release or be deleted at release?”. It has 6.6k views. Defecto’s answer fits on one line: “Deleted on release. We all start at 1 on Nov 4”.

Three days later, on September 19, Syro opens “Server Wipe?”. They write: “The wipe dread is officially setting in”, then asks: “Blizz, let us transfer our beta chars or give us a 1.0 tester buff!” Finklestadt answers curtly: “Stop playing until November if it’s an issue.”
The fear even bounced back inside the beta. On September 28, a thread asks whether “Characters wiped at beta level increase?”, right as the cap moved to level 30. No answer from Blizzard. And there was no wipe on October 1.
What your beta leaves you for November 5
WoW Forever beta characters disappear, but what you learned on them stays in your head. You have until October 21 to make the most of it, and five things are worth your time.
- The leveling route and the starting quests. On November 5, you’ll know where to go from the first minute.
- The two new dungeons already open in the beta (levels 13-18 and 15-20).
- Your talents. Test your choices in game, then compare them in the talent calculator before launch.
- Your name list. Reservation opens on October 27, so arrive with several ideas in case your first choice is already taken.
- Your guild. Build it before launch day, the Kami Labs one is already open.
The beta closes on October 21, and the game launches on November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST (November 5 at midnight Paris time).
