On November 4, about an hour before WoW Forever opened, Blizzard assembled a replica of a staff live in front of its Twitch stream viewers. The item is called Taldramir, the Whispering Wood: it is the game’s first legendary. Three days later, everything Blizzard has said about this staff fits in a few lines, and the class, the effect, the stats and the release date are still missing.
A staff forged with Wētā Workshop, revealed live
Alongside the reveal, the @Warcraft tweet offers one line: “A legendary stream deserves a new Legendary Weapon.” It adds that the staff is forged in partnership with Wētā Workshop, the New Zealand film prop workshop.

The official poster shows a physical model, with carved branches and glowing blue discs, and a tooltip reduced to three lines: “Binds when picked up,” two-handed, staff. No stats, no effect. Warcraft Tavern notes the same day that the reveal landed one hour before the game went live.
On November 6, Blizzard publishes the French name of Taldramir
The November 6 weekly recap, published by Blizzard on the English version of its site, calls the item Taldramir, the Whispering Wood. The French version of the same recap names it “Taldramir, le bois des murmures”. It presents the staff as the first legendary item of World of Warcraft: Forever, “forged by Wētā, wielded by adventurers like you.”

A video titled “Forging Forever” accompanies the post and covers the making of the staff. The text gives no class, no effect and no date.
Official, unconfirmed, unknown: where the staff stands
The only clue about who wields it comes from a media outlet, not from Blizzard. In its November 5 article, mein-mmo (Karsten Scholz) notes that a Nightborne druid holds the staff on the Forever artwork, and adds that the weapon’s class restrictions are unknown. Here is what can be verified, line by line.

Sulfuras, Thunderfury, Atiesh: a comparison of our own
This comparison is ours and claims nothing about Taldramir. In WoW Classic, Sulfuras, Thunderfury and Atiesh do not drop from a boss like an ordinary item: each one requires several steps, in 40-player raids. Blizzard has not said whether its first Forever legendary will follow that pattern.
Three raids on December 9, a legendary questline in spring 2027
Blizzard has given no date for Taldramir. On December 9, Barrow Deeps (10 players), Hyjal Summit (20) and Onyxia’s Lair (40) open, covered in our launch content guide and, from the developers’ side, in our article on the Crix interview.
A datamining rumor (digging through the game files) has been circulating since September: a healing-oriented quest, a puzzle in Un’Goro, an Elune ritual, a Hyjal boss and a solo fight against Archimonde. None of it is confirmed.
At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard announced Forever’s first legendary questline for spring 2027, as reported in our article on the Shadows of Lordaeron leak. Linking that quest to the staff is our own deduction, not an announcement.
