At level 30, the Classic warrior runs off to get the Whirlwind Axe, a quest weapon far above anything that drops from monsters at that stage. In the beta, the WoW Forever Shaman now has one too. A player got it less than a day after the level 30 tier opened and laid out the whole chain on Reddit on October 2. Icy Veins picked up the find the same evening.
A chain that starts right after the Air Totem quest
The title of the post on r/classicwow says it all: « Shaman WW Weapon is in the game! » The quest unlocks as soon as you hand in the Air Totem quest, the class quest the shaman does at level 30 in Classic. Then come four steps:
- get an item from the last boss of Razorfen Kraul;
- collect 20 totems, 5 per zone: from the murlocs of Dustwallow Marsh (levels 36 to 39), the centaurs of Desolace (37 to 39), the Lost Ones of the Swamp of Sorrows (34 to 37) and the troggs of the Badlands (39 and up);
- clear a level 40 elite quest near a water source in Thousand Needles: several waves of elementals, then a level 39 or 40 elite boar escorted by an elite water elemental;
- hand it all in to a shaman based in the Alterac Mountains, who gives you the weapon and a shield.
The player puts the totem drop rate at about 25%. By the player’s own account, it is a gut feeling from play, not a measurement. Twenty totems at that rate means about 80 monsters killed, spread over four zones on two continents.
In the comments, a screenshot shows the two-handed reward carried by a Tauren: a mace carved like a totem, in green and gold.

Three weapons to choose from for the WoW Forever Shaman, and a shield
The WoW Forever Shaman picks one weapon out of three, one per specialization. All are item level 40, rare quality and bind when picked up. Wowhead has already added them to its WoW Forever database.

- Rage of the Storm: a two-handed mace, 35.6 damage per second, +15 Stamina, +16 Intellect and 10% more damage on Stormstrike. This is the Enhancement weapon.
- Lightning’s Grasp: a main-hand fist weapon, up to +46 to spell damage and healing, and +1% critical strike on . For Elemental.
- Tidebringer’s Claw: a main-hand fist weapon, up to +86 to healing, and +2% critical strike on and . For Restoration.
The shield comes automatically: the Elementalist’s Guard, 1,078 armor, 20 block, +9 Stamina, +6 Intellect and 2 mana every 5 seconds.

Screenshot shared on r/classicwow, October 2, 2026: the shield handed out on top of the chosen weapon.
This shield is only really useful to two specializations out of three. Elemental and Restoration hold a one-handed weapon and wear it alongside. The Enhancement shaman who takes the two-handed mace cannot equip both at once: for that shaman, the Elementalist’s Guard ends up in the bag or with the vendor, for 82 silver. The choice is also final, which irritates one commenter: « I really wish you could somehow get all the weapons ».
A level 40 weapon, already in hand at level 30
Icy Veins headlines a « level 30 weapon quest ». Level 30 only unlocks it. The totems drop from level 34 to 39 monsters, the elite quest is level 40, and the player sums it up in a comment: « it’s a level 40 weapon ».
Still, the player got it at level 30, the current beta cap, with some help. One reader asks whether it takes ten hunters, the only class that can supposedly hit higher-level monsters. The answer: « in my case one was enough ». Another praises the feat: « The fact that you have this at level 30 only like 12 hours after the update is insane. »
On the live servers, the math changes for the WoW Forever Shaman. The chain sends you to five different zones and a dungeon, just when you often prefer to string together the quests of a single region. The player admits it plainly: « you will probably not get it if you want to level fast ». Asked whether the weapon is worth the effort, the player qualifies: « Yes, but it’s still as clunky as classic and you are pretty mana starved ».
In Enhancement, Rage of the Storm carries real weight: its 10% applies to Stormstrike, the ability the whole specialization revolves around. Blizzard also reworked its talents, detailed in our article on the warrior, shaman and rogue. To test the tree with these bonuses in mind, the WoW Forever talent calculator is up to date with the October 1 patch.
Other classes could follow the warrior and the shaman
So far, only the warrior and the WoW Forever Shaman have a known weapon quest of this caliber. Icy Veins bets on more discoveries before the end of the beta, and the context fits: the level 30 tier has only been open since the October 1 maintenance, with Uldaman and a reworked Fury warrior (full patch details).
Wowhead tags the four items « New in Forever », added in patch 1.60.1, but does not yet link them to any quest in its database. The exact name of the chain and its prerequisites therefore come, for now, from the player’s account alone. Others already report spelling mistakes in the text of the new quests, a sign the content can still change before the November 5 release.
