On Tuesday 27 October at 6 pm Paris time, you will have to pick your rules before you even type a character name, and there is one more than announced. On 22 October, developer Aggrend wrote on the official Blizzard forum: « We will add a Roleplay-PVP Ruleset for launch on November 4. » WoW Forever RP-PvP therefore joins Normal, PvP, Roleplaying and Hardcore (called Extrême in French), which makes five options, four of them playable at launch because Hardcore comes later. The choice applies to every character you create, and a guild has to agree on a single one.

WoW Forever RP-PvP: the 22 October decision
The message says the team had reservations: a recent episode of the WoW Forever podcast raised them, while saying the topic was still under discussion. According to the community site wowforever.be, episode 4 even ruled out RP-PvP, because the roleplay PvP realm of Season of Discovery reportedly lost its RP tag after about three months. The episode details and the Season of Discovery reference come from that site alone.
Blizzard changed its mind after review. Aggrend writes that the team carefully examined what it would take to add it, then decided to go for it. He adds that the developers are working to make the ruleset selectable as soon as name reservation starts on Tuesday 27 October. That is a stated effort, not a guarantee.

Five rulesets, one for the whole guild
L’Blizzard article on choosing a ruleset, updated on 22 October, now states at the top that Roleplay-PvP arrives at launch and that Blizzard plans to offer it from early reservation. Its body text still describes four rulesets: Normal, PvP, Roleplaying and Hardcore, the last one « sometime after launch ».
Three rules in that text weigh on a guild. Groups, dungeons and raids form only among players of the same ruleset. Battlegrounds can mix rulesets, except Hardcore. And to change ruleset you must create a new character: collections and Legacy Points are shared across the account, but the character does not move. Our guide to rulesets details these mechanics, and the article on Normal or PvP with Venruki shows what PvP looks like in the open world.

What we still don’t know before Tuesday 6 pm
Three questions remain open. First, will the ruleset really be available on Tuesday? Blizzard speaks of a plan, and wowforever.be notes that nothing is certain. Second, the reservation allows three names in total across all rulesets, according to the same site. If one goes to RP-PvP, it is missing elsewhere.
Finally, the faction. On the PvP ruleset, Blizzard writes: « Once you create an Alliance character on the PvP ruleset, you won’t be able to create a Horde character there. » Normal, Roleplaying and Hardcore accept both factions. Nothing says where RP-PvP falls, and wowforever.be also flags it as unknown. For a guild whose members are split between Horde and Alliance, that answer matters a lot.
How a French guild can decide
The choice is made at group level, never alone, since a member on another ruleset will do no dungeon or raid with you. A simple approach: list who wants constant open-world combat, who wants to play a character, and who mostly wants to level and raid in peace. If all three profiles coexist, Normal remains the only ruleset that welcomes them without conditions.
For a roleplay guild that liked danger, WoW Forever RP-PvP answers a request that forum threads had been making for weeks. First reactions welcome it, with one worry: enforcement of the roleplay rules. One player, AkiyamaMio, asks for offenders to be sent to the non-roleplay ruleset: « breaking the RP ToS should get you deported to the non-RP ruleset. » Blizzard has announced nothing on this point; it is only one player’s opinion.
On the calendar, reservation runs until 3 November and the ruleset is promised for the launch on the 4th; the opening time in France is in our schedule rundown. The details of the window and the eligible editions are in the article on reserving the three names. None of these dates forces you to reserve at exactly 6 pm, except for a much-wanted name: a full name is only granted once per region.
