Build Overview

The One Shot Blood Mage is a Witch build using the Blood Mage ascendancy, based on an interaction between Lightning and Bleed that pushes the « kill in one hit » concept to its extreme. The principle is simple: charge up an overpowered Plasma BlastPlasma Blast and let the bleed finish the job. With this update for season 0.4, the build reaches a new tier thanks to the discovery of a swap that entirely rewired its internal structure.

The core philosophy of this version is stacking +levels on every gear slot. Each additional level on Plasma BlastPlasma Blast translates into exponential damage gains, and this approach is what now allows wiping Uber bosses in seconds — Uber Arbiter in 3 seconds, Uber Zesh in 2 seconds.

The build retains excellent clear speed thanks to Galvanic ShardsGalvanic Shards and the Heralds that clean everything on-screen and off-screen, while delivering single-target power sufficient for the hardest content in the game. This is a build that rewards progressive investment: every improved slot directly contributes to the final hit.

Build Strengths

  • One-shots Uber bosses: Capable of deleting Uber Arbiter and Uber Zesh in 2–3 seconds through massive +levels stacking and the Minion Pact combo
  • Unchanged clear speed: Maps remain smooth and fast thanks to Galvanic ShardsGalvanic Shards and the Heralds cleaning everything in their path
  • Free domino chain: Removing AmbrosiaAmbrosia triggers a chain reaction (Lavianga’s Spirits → Crystal ElixirCrystal Elixir) that provides a permanent damage multiplier at zero cost
  • Massive scalability: Every gear upgrade directly contributes to final damage, offering satisfying long-term progression
  • Optimised dual weapon set: Both weapon sets serve distinct purposes (DPS + curses), offering maximum flexibility without compromise

Build Weaknesses

  • High spirit cost: Tame BeastTame Beast costs 60 spirit, forcing you to disable a Herald for Uber bosses or invest heavily to sustain everything simultaneously
  • Average movement speed: The character is not fast, which can be an issue in deep endgame maps against monster waves
  • Expensive endgame investment: The The VertexThe Vertex helmet, mirror-tier crossbow, and +levels corruptions represent a significant budget
  • Manual swap for Uber bosses: Without enough spirit, you must manually disable a Herald and activate the companion before each Uber boss, which is tedious

Recommended Equipment

  • Helmet : The VertexThe Vertex (Tribal Mask) — non-negotiable in this version. The +3 levels to all skills is the pillar of the build. A double corrupt +4 exists but costs extremely high, +3 is the sweet spot
  • Body Armour : Sacrificial Regalia — adds additional levels to all corrupted skills. You need to corrupt your Plasma BlastPlasma Blast and Galvanic ShardsGalvanic Shards to benefit from it
  • Main Weapon : Crossbow with the best possible damage. The author invested a Mirror to push the ceiling, but a good rare crossbow gets the job done
  • Secondary Weapon : Last Slam Crossbow — comes with a built-in Recreum skill, useful as insurance to finish off a surviving Boss
  • Amulet : Focus on spirit and +levels to projectile skills. Also percent maximum energy shield, global defenses and resistances
  • Belt : Darkness EnthronedDarkness Enthroned with Wolf Idol and Rune of Cruelty at 100% increased effect — replaces HeadhunterHeadhunter as it is more effective at Uber level
  • Flask : Lavianga’s Spirits — permanently regenerates mana and keeps the flask effect active continuously, which triggers Crystal ElixirCrystal Elixir
  • Jewel : Prism of Belief (Diamond Jewel) — grants +3 levels to Plasma BlastPlasma Blast from a single socket
  • Runes : Prioritize runes that increase magnitude wherever possible

Gameplay Tips

  • Mapping : Keep the classic rotation with Galvanic ShardsGalvanic Shards shotgun and Heralds for clearing. Swap Elemental WeaknessElemental Weakness to Temporal ChainsTemporal Chains on BlasphemyBlasphemy to slow monster waves in deep endgame maps
  • Uber boss preparation : Deactivate a Herald, activate your companion (Tame BeastTame Beast), enter the arena. Place Elemental WeaknessElemental Weakness on the spawn point, buff with Emergency ReloadEmergency Reload, charge Plasma BlastPlasma Blast and fire when the red glint appears
  • Gem corruption : Take a level 20 gem, max out its quality, then use a Vaal OrbVaal Orb and a Corruption Orb. If RNG doesn’t cooperate, buy directly on trade
  • Tame Beast : Use an Uncut Skill gem level 9-10 (lower stat requirements). Deactivate your Heralds, go to the Infested Barrens (Act 3), find a rare monster with a good aura (ideally Haste) and capture it
  • Spirit option : If you have enough spirit to activate everything, you never need to swap — that’s the « rich kid route ». Otherwise, keep the companion only for Uber bosses

The Tame Beast and Minion Pact Swap

The most counter-intuitive change in this update is the addition of Tame BeastTame Beast, a companion skill, to a crossbow sniper build. The companion itself isn’t there to fight — it’s there to exist. As long as a companion is active, you unlock the Minion Pact support gem, which you place in Plasma BlastPlasma Blast in place of AmbrosiaAmbrosia.

The damage gain is such that the author describes a multiplier that makes AmbrosiaAmbrosia look like a warm-up. The cost is 60 spirit, which makes sustaining impossible with all Heralds active simultaneously. Two options are available: the swap method (deactivating a Herald for Uber bosses only) or the « rich kid route » (enough spirit to activate everything thanks to quality on the Tame BeastTame Beast gem).

To capture a good companion, head to the Infested Barrens in Act 3 with an Uncut Skill gem level 9-10. Deactivate your self-targeting skills, find a rare monster with a useful aura (Haste ideally) and capture it. The companion inherits the rare monster’s modifiers, so take the time to choose wisely.

The Chain Reaction: Crystal Elixir and Lavianga’s Spirits

Removing AmbrosiaAmbrosia from Plasma BlastPlasma Blast triggers a remarkable domino effect. Without AmbrosiaAmbrosia, your flask charges are no longer consumed. And since your flasks no longer drain, you no longer need a standard mana flask to sustain. You can therefore equip Lavianga’s Spirits, a unique flask that permanently regenerates your mana.

But the real reason to use Lavianga’s Spirits is its permanent effect: it keeps you permanently under the effect of a flask, even without pressing a single button. And this permanent flask effect triggers the passive node Crystal ElixirCrystal Elixir, which grants a massive elemental damage boost that directly scales your bleed magnitude.

All of this works permanently and for free. You have a giant damage multiplier running in the background simply because you removed a support gem. This is one of the most satisfying synergies this build offers.

+Levels Philosophy and Equipment Progression

Every equipment decision in this version is driven by a single objective: pushing your +levels as high as possible. The VertexThe Vertex grants +3 levels to all skills. Sacrificial Regalia adds levels to corrupted skills. Prism of Belief offers +3 levels to Plasma BlastPlasma Blast from a single jewel socket. And weapons prioritize +levels to projectile skills.

The author admits to having been wrong in the original video by recommending avoiding The VertexThe Vertex. Once +levels became the identity of the build, this helmet became absolutely non-negotiable. The combination of all these level sources means regular Bosses simply cease to exist — Plasma BlastPlasma Blast hits so far above their health bar that the fight is over before they finish spawning.

On the belt side, HeadhunterHeadhunter is replaced by Darkness EnthronedDarkness Enthroned with Wolf Idol and Rune of Cruelty. It’s not as flashy, but it is objectively more effective for what the build aims for at Uber level. Sometimes the boring choice is the best choice.

Temporal Chains Swap for Deep Maps

For mapping, the author swaps Elemental WeaknessElemental Weakness on BlasphemyBlasphemy to Temporal ChainsTemporal Chains. The logic is simple: at this stage of the build, map damage is already in massive overkill territory. Everything dies regardless. What kills you in deep endgame maps is getting overwhelmed by monster waves you cannot outrun.

This character’s movement speed is mediocre. So if you can’t go faster, why not slow everything else down? Temporal ChainsTemporal Chains on BlasphemyBlasphemy makes every enemy that approaches you drag through mud while you calmly demolish them with Galvanic ShardsGalvanic Shards. In deep endgame, that’s the difference between clearing the map and becoming confetti.

Elemental WeaknessElemental Weakness remains for bossing — you still cast it manually on the Boss spawn point. The weapon set passives dedicated to curses increase the size, duration and magnitude of Elemental WeaknessElemental Weakness, meaning the zone stays in place when the Boss finally arrives.

Uber Boss Strategy: Preparation and Execution

Preparation for an Uber Boss follows a precise checklist. First, if you don’t have enough spirit, deactivate a Herald. Then, activate your companion. Enter the arena.

The execution sequence is then as follows: place Elemental WeaknessElemental Weakness on the spawn point. Thanks to weapon set passives, your curse zone will be larger and last longer than before. Buff with Emergency ReloadEmergency Reload. Charge Plasma BlastPlasma Blast and fire when you see the red glint.

The result: Uber Arbiter doesn’t get a second phase. Uber Zesh doesn’t have time to do anything. The fight is decided the moment the shot connects — the health bar simply catches up to an already settled outcome. That is the entire fantasy of this build, and with this update, it finally works perfectly on the hardest content in the game.
