Fastest Diablo 4 Leveling Season 14: Level 1-70 Guide

Article by Kami

Galmod shares in this video the fastest Diablo 4 leveling method available in Season 14, compatible with all classes and validated as Hardcore viable. The strategy is based on obtaining the double Helltide war plan from character creation, then unlocking worm and maggot farming by accumulating points in Helltide war plans.

In this video, Galmod details each step of Diablo 4 leveling: threat meter management, chest timing in Penitent mode, gear pit stops at key levels, and staying alert to enemies capable of one-shotting you. Followed correctly, this method allows you to reach level 70 in under two hours, or even 90 minutes for optimized runs.

Starting Your Diablo 4 Leveling Right: Endgame State and Difficulty

First and foremost, make sure to start with the endgame campaign state active. This spares you from replaying the main campaign and places you directly in the optimal conditions for the fastest possible Diablo 4 leveling.

Two options are available from the start. The first: start on normal difficulty and head straight to the Helltide. The second: choose hard difficulty, go to the PvP zone and progress there to level 7, then switch to the Helltide on normal difficulty. Both approaches are compatible with the changes introduced by the patch 3.1.0 "Dawn of the Dead".

Regardless of which option you choose, the leveling loop that follows remains identical. The initial choice does not affect the rest of the journey.

Unlocking War Plans and Targeting the Double Helltide

Once you have made your choice, teleport to Temys and speak to Tyrael to unlock your war plans. Then head to the war plan table to see which ones you obtained.

This is the beginning of the Phase 1 loop. Your goal from this point: identify what you received and act accordingly.

Unlocking war plans with Tyrael in Temys

Absolutely aim for the double Helltide war plan: both plans must be Helltides. This setup represents approximately 25% of the required experience if you open chests in Penitent mode. It is the best possible start for this phase.

Without the double Helltide war plan, it is better to delete and recreate the character.

If you do not get the double Helltide on the first try, do not waste time. Log out, delete the character, recreate it and start over until you get this start. It is faster than continuing without this setup.

Mercenaries and Pet: The Setup That Changes Everything

Once you have the double Helltide war plan in hand, head to Temys to pick up your mercenaries.

The recommended duo is Subha and Outkin. Together, they provide map hack, good crowd control, and a solid damage reduction. Also remember to equip your pet: it automatically picks up cinders and useful items without you having to stop.

Phase 1: Farming Cinders and the Threat Meter

Always start the Helltide on normal difficulty. The objective is threefold: accumulate cinders, fill the threat meter, and above all never die.

Fill the meter completely, drain it, then eliminate all the monsters it spawns except the Hellborn. This loop yields approximately 450 cinders and brings you to around level 12.

Replace your gear with everything that drops. Nothing is permanent before level 70 and Torment, so do not get attached to any item. Still aim for the minimum recommended toughness at each tier: it determines your survival in the next phases.

Two warnings to keep absolutely in mind. First point: flee the worms that appear on the map as well as the creatures they spawn. At low level, they can kill you in a single hit even on normal. Second point: ignore the Hellborn. The reward does not justify the time or effort it takes at this stage of Diablo 4 leveling.

Keep the habit of continuously updating your gear throughout this phase. Every item that drops can replace what you are wearing. Do not keep anything out of principle: efficiency matters, attachment does not.

Opening Chests in Penitent and Completing the War Plan

Once you have collected 450 cinders and the threat meter is close to zero, switch the difficulty to Penitent. This is the time to cash in on your farm.

Run to two Helltide chests and open them. The only objective is to open these chests, then return to Temys. No combat.

Switching to Penitent difficulty to open chests

In Penitent, monsters are dangerous. If you find yourself surrounded, flee without hesitation. Look for another chest, reset the situation and do not die. Only the war plan objective matters: open the chests, nothing else.

With the chests opened, teleport to Temys and hand in the war plan to Tyrael. You will be level 12 or higher at this point, and completing it propels your character to around level 15. Then choose your class skill, spend the skill points on damage, defense, or utility according to your build, then select your second war plan.

Chaining War Plans up to 8 Helltide Nodes

From the second war plan onward, the objective is to maximize the number of Helltide nodes obtained. Systematically target at least one or two Helltide war plans at each selection.

As soon as a Helltide ends, immediately launch a new war plan to maintain the pace.

Launching a war plan after a Helltide

At this stage, you will often need to chain an Undercity, a nightmare dungeon, or a Pit. Always do them on normal difficulty: the idea is to rush the objective as fast as possible, complete the war plan, then launch the next one without losing time.

Continue this loop until you reach 8 validated Helltide war plan nodes. This threshold gives enough experience to earn 2 points in the Helltide war plans, which unlocks maggot farming and marks the beginning of Phase 2 of Diablo 4 leveling.

Phase 2: Maggot Farming, the Real XP Machine

This phase takes place on expert or Penitent difficulty. The absolute rule: dying is not an option. Every death costs time and breaks the farming rhythm.

Keep your threat meter filled to two-thirds. This is the threshold that maximizes worm spawns in the Helltide. Mount up and ride through the zone until they emerge from the ground.

Highly profitable Helltide XP farming thanks to threat tiers

When the worms emerge, avoid the initial emergence phase and stay mounted to take no risks. As soon as the threat meter drops during maggot farming, rebuild it. If you have cinders, open chests in the Helltide to restore it quickly. Without cinders, eliminate champions and elites, or participate in seasonal content like rifts, preferably on easy difficulty to move fast and reduce the risk of death. To fully take advantage of this phase, choose a class from the most efficient of the season according to the Season 14 tier list of the best builds.

Beware of the Pang of Duriel, capable of killing you in a single hit.

Stay alert after the worm appears: the Pang of Duriel emerges shortly after and can kill you instantly. Keep your distance as soon as you see it emerge from the ground.

Gear Pit Stops: Levels 40, 50, and 60

At this stage, levels fly by at full speed. Make regular stops in town at levels 40, 50, and 60 to check the vendors.

Vendors scale with your level: their offerings improve as you progress. Check available weapons frequently, as an upgrade at the right time makes a real difference.

Checking weapons at vendors that scale with level

At each stop, check your weapon first, then your armor and jewelry. Avoid tempering before level 60 or 70: you outgrow items too quickly, making it a waste of time and materials. For affixes, prioritize life and armor first. Staying alive is the condition for continuing to progress efficiently.

With this strategy, Diablo 4 leveling flies by: level 70 is reachable in under 2 hours, or even under 90 minutes for well-optimized runs. Once this milestone is reached, it is time to move to an endgame build to tackle Torment content.
