Build Overview
This Titan Polar Bear build is an evolution of the classic bear build that drops fire damage in favor of cold damage. KingKongor explains he was frustrated with the fire build constantly getting stuck on enemy corpses, whereas cold damage solves this problem by shattering every enemy on hit.
The concept is straightforward: we use Embitter to convert our physical damage to cold, and thanks to the Polcirkeln ring, all chilled enemies shatter instantly instead of needing to reach the Freeze threshold. Gameplay alternates between Rampage for map clearing and Furious Slam for single target on bosses. We maintain Walking Calamity permanently through the rage spam technique using shouts.
This build is very accessible since the essential uniques cost around 2 Divines total. KingKongor mentions he got a Headhunter by luck, but the build works perfectly without it. Damage output is already excellent with a weapon at only 739 physical DPS.
Build Strengths
- Excellent clear speed: Cold damage shatters prevent getting stuck on enemy corpses, unlike fire builds. As soon as you hit something, it explodes.
- Two builds in one: Rampage for fast map clearing, Furious Slam for bosses. Swap between them as needed.
- Budget-friendly: The core uniques (Constricting Command + Polcirkeln) cost around 2 Divines total. No Headhunter required.
- Solid boss damage: Even with a 739 physical DPS weapon, damage is already very solid. Potential scales up to 1400 DPS with better gear.
- High Mobility: Movement speed focused, the build is fast and responsive.
Build Weaknesses
- Mana hungry: This is a mana-hungry build, which is why Lifetap (Bloodletting) is used on several skills to work around the issue.
- Resistances not capped: KingKongor mentions he has not yet capped his resistances and is using a chaos resist piece in the meantime. The build is still in early stages.
- Light on defenses: The player’s approach is « if monsters are dead, they cannot kill me », with a focus on offense over defense.

- Ring – Constricting Command (~2D): The essential unique for the « Surrounded » mechanic. Look for a roll with « 4 or fewer enemies » to be surrounded. Never take 5 – it is a trap since you can no longer drop to 0 from patch 0.4 onward.
- Ring – Polcirkeln: The key piece of the build. Chilled enemies shatter directly instead of needing to reach the freeze threshold. This is what enables smooth clearing.
- Amulet – Astramentis: Fixes DEX and INT requirements for druid skills. Not mandatory but very convenient. Defiance of Destiny is a more defensive alternative.
- Body Armour: KingKongor uses a chest with movement speed. This is not mandatory – you can opt for armour if you prefer more defense.
- Weapon: A mace with as much physical DPS as possible. Avoid too much attack speed (~1.5 max), as Rampage seems to deal more damage with slower weapons. +Skills and Onslaught are nice bonuses.
- Offhand – Amor Mandragora: For the Druic Prowess buff when you shout. The buff persists even after swapping back to your main weapon.
- Jewel – Undying Hate (~2D): Defensive layer with Blood Magic. Pick it up once you have the budget.
- Companion – Rowa/Mosquito/Spider: Look for a fast beast with Haste Aura in the Interlude > Ashen Forest. Use Brutus’ Brain for a permanent haste buff.
Gameplay Tips
- Rage technique: Spam your shouts (Ferocious Roar with Raging Cry) to generate rage. Thanks to Enraged Warcry I, you can bypass the cooldown by spending 15 rage instead of an endurance charge. You generate more rage than you spend – it is essentially free.
- Maintaining Walking Calamity: Activate Calamity, then spam shouts to keep it up permanently. Even though the effect looks like fire, it is actually cold damage thanks to Embitter.
- Mapping vs Bossing: In maps, use Rampage to blast through packs. On pinnacle bosses, prefer Rampage around the boss rather than Slam for more damage with the current gear.
- Fury of the Mountain: Before engaging a boss, place your fissures with this skill. When the boss becomes vulnerable, activate Calamity and rampage into them.
- Weapon Swap: Always keep a second weapon for shout passives (Roaring Cries, War Cry Speed). The Amor Mandragora in the offhand grants a buff that persists after swapping back.
- Savage Fury: Do not forget to activate it on bosses! It is a direct damage buff on the second weapon set.
The Surrounded and Pole Circle Mechanic
The synergy between Constricting Command and Polcirkeln is the core of this build. Constricting Command reduces the number of enemies required to activate « Surrounded » to 4 or fewer (never take a 5-enemy roll – it has been a trap since patch 0.4). As soon as one enemy is nearby, all « Surrounded » bonuses activate.
Polcirkeln fundamentally transforms the gameplay around cold damage. Normally, shattering an enemy requires reaching the freeze threshold. With this ring, any chilled enemy explodes into a shatter immediately. Since Embitter converts your physical damage to cold and you easily reach 6-8k cold damage, everything you touch shatters instantly.
Finding the Rowa Companion with Haste Aura
The ideal companion for this build is a Rowa, Mosquito, or Spider with the Haste Aura. This movement and attack speed buff considerably improves the flow of the build. To find one, head to the Interlude then into the Ashen Forest (the same location as the ant from the previous season).
Roam the area and inspect each elite. You are looking for a capturable beast (not the ants – they are no longer capturable) with the « Haste Aura » mod. It may take a few hours of farming, but the permanent haste buff via Brutus’ Brain is well worth it.
Titan Passive Tree Configuration
As a Titan, the priority ascendancy nodes are Hulking Form and Earthbreaker. KingKongor then recommends Ancestral Empowerment over Mysterious Lineage, since the bonus works very well with Rampage for single target. If you are running low on life, Mysterious Lineage remains a viable defensive option.
Essential nodes to pick up include Unbending and Behemoth (accessible via From Nothing Diamond on Resolute Technique if you have the jewel), as well as Heart of the Well Diamond for instant leech. KingKongor insists on this last point: if your character is dying frequently and you do not have Heart of the Well Diamond with instant leech, that is most likely the cause. It costs around 1 Divine.
For shouts on the weapon swap, take the Roaring Cries and War Cry Speed nodes, as well as Exhalation which removes ignite on every shout. Very useful defensively against current ignite builds.
Weapon Swap Technique
The build uses two distinct weapon sets. The first is your main weapon (high physical DPS mace), the second holds an Amor Mandragora in the offhand along with your shout gems (Roaring Cries). When you shout with the second weapon set, you gain the Druic Prowess buff which persists even after swapping back to your main weapon.
In practice: before a fight, switch to weapon set 2, shout to gain the buff and generate rage, then swap back to weapon set 1 to fight. The buff stays active, you benefit from skill speed and other bonuses. It is also on this weapon set that Savage Fury can be activated for a direct damage boost on bosses.
