Build Overview
This Flicker Strike Monk Invoker build represents the final, optimized version of the Monk for Season 4. We use Flicker Strike and Falling Thunder as our primary skills, with Whirling Assault for mass clear. Flicker excels in open maps with high mob density, while Falling Thunder serves as a backup when Flicker leaves us in a dangerous position.
The true strength of this build lies in its triple Herald system powered by a special tech: Herald of Ice triggers armor explosions through chaos damage and Uul-Netol’s Embrace. It’s extremely satisfying to play. We amplify all our skills with Charged Staff, which adds lightning damage, a shockwave, blind, and crit chance.
The Invoker Ascendancy with Lead Me Through Grace lets us stack an insane amount of spirit gems. Our body armor grants +1 spirit for every 8 energy shield and 20 evasion. Combined with Soul Springs Eternal to reduce the reservation cost of Cast on Critical, we can simultaneously run CoC, triple Heralds, Wind Dancer and Elemental Conflux. An impressive defensive layering setup.
Build Strengths
- Insane clear speed: Triple Heralds combined with the armor explosion tech wipe packs in a flash. Herald of Ice and Herald of Thunder create very satisfying chain reactions.
- Ultra-layered defenses: Energy Shield + Evasion + Deflection + Wind Dancer. Multiple layers of protection that complement each other. Share Satchel with an instant recovery flask allows permanent ES sustain.
- Chaos and bleed immune: Thanks to Chaos Inoculation, we no longer need to stack chaos res on gear. This frees up affixes for rarity and damage.
- Addictive Flicker chains: When Perpetual Charge procs, we can chain dozens of Flickers in a row. The gameplay feels fluid and satisfying.
- Scalability: The build works on a budget and scales very well with investment. Chase items like Diamond Megalomaniac and Dialla’s Desire are bonuses, not requirements.
Build Weaknesses
- Uul-Netol’s Embrace is very expensive: The Herald armor explosion tech requires this support gem which costs a fortune. Without it, the clear is still good but less explosive.
- Flicker RNG: Perpetual Charge is chance-based. Sometimes you get 30-Flicker chains, sometimes it stops after 3. That’s the price of fun.
- Ignite is dangerous this league: Abyss monsters apply devastating ignites. An ignite charm and Cool-Headed are absolutely mandatory to reduce the duration.
- Endgame investment: To reach the level shown in the video, you’ll need divines. Heart of the Wild Diamonds, the Megalomaniac, and corrupts don’t come cheap.
Gem Setup by Stage
This build offers 1 progression stage from leveling to the final build. Select a stage to see the corresponding gem setup.
Default
12 skills • 62 gemmesRecommended Equipment
- Weapon: Sinister Quarterstaff (12% base crit). Look for flat cold damage, gain extra as cold, increased elemental damage with attacks. Suffixes: base crit chance, crit damage bonus, level of attack skills. Socket an Infamous Rune of Agony for chaos damage.
- Body Armor: Highest possible EVES base. Priority: deflection rating and desecrated spirit reservation efficiency. This is what allows us to run all the spirit gems.
- Helmet: EVES base with +1 max power charges if possible. Maximize energy shield since Subterfuge Mask grants +2 evasion per ES on the helmet.
- Gloves: Triple attack damage (add cold, add phys, add lightning) + level of melee + a leech line for Oisin’s Oath.
- Boots: EVES base with 35%+ movement speed and deflection rating.
- Belt: Share Satchel is mandatory for ES sustain. Corrupted with increased maximum energy shield if possible.
- Amulet: Increased ES, increased EV, increased global defenses, +3 level of melee. Anoint Tribal Fury for splash damage.
- Rings: Two Unset Rings with add phys, add cold, add lightning, rarity, and resistances.
- Jewels: Heart of the Wild Diamond (gain extra as chaos + cold) and Megalomaniac (expensive but powerful).
- Charms: Stun charm with guard, ignite charm mandatory against Abyss monsters.
Gameplay Tips
- Instant recovery flask: MANDATORY for Share Satchel. Without instant recovery, your flask won’t heal energy shield. This is the key to survival.
- Do not quality Mantra: Mantra of Destruction at 0% quality gives 20 combo. Qualified, it drops to 17. We want 20 combo = 5 power charges for bossing.
- Alternate Flicker and Falling Thunder: Use Flicker for open maps and Falling Thunder when you’re stuck or in tight areas.
- Charged Staff always up: Activate it before engaging. It grants blind (evasion + crit against blind), lightning damage, and a shockwave. The buff lasts a long time with Prolonged Duration I.
- Gale Force as a defense: Wind Dancer passively builds evasion stacks and procs Gale Force when you take a hit. The explosion kills nearby mobs and gets you out of pressure.
- Watch out for ignites: Abyss monsters this league deal monstrous ignites. Always have an ignite charm equipped and Cool-Headed on Herald of Ash.
Herald Tech: Armor Break and Explosions
The real innovation in this version of the build is Leo’s board Herald tech. The principle is simple but devastatingly effective: we make our Heralds break enemy armor, which triggers Armor Explosion.
How does it work? Uul-Netol’s Embrace allows chaos damage to break armor. We get chaos damage from multiple sources: Infamous Runes of Agony on our weapon, Heart of the Wild Diamonds, and Chaos Attunement on Herald of Ice. Uruk’s Smelting adds 70% more armor break, and Armor Explosion does the rest.
The result? Every Herald kill triggers a fire explosion that wipes remaining mobs. It’s visually satisfying and mechanically powerful. That said, Uul-Netol’s Embrace is very expensive. If you don’t have the budget, refer to the old Herald setup which also works very well.
Power Charge Generation
Power charges are essential for Flicker Strike and Charged Staff. We use two different systems depending on the situation:
While mapping, Cast on Critical builds energy on each crit. Once the threshold is reached, it casts Profane Ritual, which consumes corpses to generate power charges. It’s fully automatic and passive. We use Boundless Energy I, Charge Profusion I, and Energy Retention to maximize generation.
While bossing, no corpses means no Profane Ritual. We switch to Mantra of Destruction. Hit the boss to build 20 combo stacks via Delayed Gratification. Use Mantra, which triggers Ailith’s Chimes to consume the combo. 20 combo = 5 power charges. Important: do NOT quality Mantra, or you’ll only get 17 combo max.
Defense System
This build layers multiple defensive mechanics that complement each other perfectly:
Energy Shield: We stack ES via Patient Barrier, Spectral Ward, and Mindful Awareness. The amulet with increased ES, EV, and global defenses is crucial. Share Satchel + instant recovery flask allows permanent ES healing. Without instant recovery, the flask doesn’t work.
Evasion: Subterfuge Mask grants +2 evasion per ES on the helmet. High Alert and Enhanced Reflexes round it out. We dodge the majority of hits.
Deflection: On the body armor and boots, deflection gives a chance to take 40% less damage. It’s an additional layer against heavy hits.
Wind Dancer: Passively builds stacks that increase evasion. When we take a hit, Gale Force triggers and creates an explosion that kills nearby mobs. Perfect for escaping dangerous situations.
Spirit Stacking with Lead Me Through Grace
The Invoker Ascendancy gives us Lead Me Through Grace, the node that makes everything possible. Your body armor grants +1 spirit for every 8 energy shield and 20 evasion on it. With a good EVES armor, we easily recover 100+ spirit.
Soul Springs Eternal reduces the reservation efficiency of meta skills (Cast on Critical). Combined with the desecration on the body armor which reduces the cost of other spirit gems, we can simultaneously run: Cast on Critical, Herald of Ice, Herald of Thunder, Herald of Ash, Wind Dancer, and Elemental Conflux.
This is a setup normally impossible on other classes. The Invoker Monk can afford this level of spirit stacking thanks to these interactions. Maximize ES and evasion on your body armor to get the most out of it.
