Build Overview

This TwisterTwister Huntress Levelling build is presented by GuyThatDies as « the most powerful league starter he’s ever seen on Path of Exile 2 ». The concept relies on an extremely simple rotation — Whirling SlashWhirling Slash to stack charges, then TwisterTwister to summon supercharged tornadoes that literally wipe out entire screens of enemies. It all starts strong from level 2 and explodes by act 2 with the arrival of Frost NexusFrost Nexus.

The core mechanic comes down to a single interaction: Ice-Tipped Arrows converts TwisterTwister into cold damage. This conversion immediately unlocks a cascade of multipliers — Frost NexusFrost Nexus automatically generates chilled ground, Herald of IceHerald of Ice blows up packs, Elemental Armament IIElemental Armament II stacks a layer of elemental damage, and the entire elemental damage branch of the passive tree starts scaling. By act 2, boss DPS becomes absurd and clear speed becomes instant.

Season 0.5 adds two major upgrades that push this build to the next level: Spirit Walker’s Primal Bounty (up to 6 additional projectiles and +200% projectile speed) and the new runic ward system for survivability. The result: a leveling build playable both as Huntress and Monk, that turns the campaign into a mere formality from act 2 onward.

Strengths / Weaknesses

✅ Strengths

  • Exceptional league starter — insane single target and instant screen clear from act 2
  • Online ultra fast — works from level 2, full setup at the start of act 2 (level 14)
  • Simple rotationWhirling SlashWhirling SlashTwisterTwister, mental load very low for such a powerful build
  • Versatile — works equally well on Huntress as on Monk (ideal Spirit Walker version)
  • Massive scaling — stacked elemental multipliers (Frost NexusFrost Nexus, Ice-Tipped Arrows, Elemental Armament IIElemental Armament II, Herald of IceHerald of Ice)
  • 0.5 Synergies — Spirit Walker’s Primal Bounty pushes Projectile Acceleration IIIProjectile Acceleration III as a major multiplier
  • Solid survivabilityWind DancerWind Dancer + runic ward system 0.5 + Scouts Vest/Hunter Hood

❌ Weaknesses

  • Weapon crafting dependency — each weapon upgrade (Hunting Spear, War Spear, Crossblade Spear) is mandatory to maintain DPS
  • Currency investment at level 21 — the War Spear requires Regal/Essence + Exalt + quality + Lesser Storm Rune
  • Slower act 1 start — before Frost NexusFrost Nexus (act 2), the build remains decent but not exceptional
  • Freeze management on bossesIce-Tipped Arrows can prevent Frost NexusFrost Nexus from generating frozen ground, mandatory fix with Elemental FocusElemental Focus at act 3

Recommended Equipment

This build’s equipment is centered around weapon crafting. The spear upgrade curve is the main DPS progression factor, far more than armor pieces. The weapon swap setup is intentionally asymmetric: Set 1 prioritizes attack speed for Whirling SlashWhirling Slash, Set 2 prioritizes average damage per use for TwisterTwister.

  • Main weapon (Set 1 — Whirling Slash) : Vast Winged Spear with attack speed as priority. Whirling SlashWhirling Slash only cares about attack speed to stack charges
  • Secondary weapon (Set 2 — Twister) : Spear with the highest average damage. Check in the TwisterTwister gem menu the « average damage per use » value to compare upgrades
  • Weapon progression : Iron Head Spear (level 5) → Hunting Spear (level 10) → War Spear (level 21, major currency investment) → Jagged Spear (Act 3) → Crossblade Spear ilvl 46+ (Act 4, press alt to check)
  • Scepter : Omen Scepter for a light critical boost and extra spirit (allows equipping Herald of IceHerald of Ice and Wind DancerWind Dancer)
  • Helmet : Hunter Hood with maximum life and elemental resistances
  • Body Armour : Scouts Vest with maximum life and elemental resistances
  • Gloves : Damage priority (attack speed or flat physical damage)
  • Boots : Movement speed
  • Weapon enchantment : Lesser Storm Rune on the War Spear level 21+
  • Crafting War Spear (level 21) : Regal or Essence to lock a strong mod, then Exalt to complete, add quality and Lesser Storm Rune

Gameplay Tips

  • Basic rotation: Whirling SlashWhirling Slash 2-3 times to stack charges, then TwisterTwister to summon supercharged tornadoes
  • Boss setup before act 2: ParryParry → consume the debuff with Fangs of FrostFangs of Frost (generates chilled ground which gives +50% damage gained as cold to your Twisters)
  • Boss setup after act 2: pre-stack Whirling SlashWhirling Slash before spawn, drop War BannerWar Banner (+25% more attack damage + 25% increased attack speed), BarrageBarrage then TwisterTwister. Drop Parry and Fangs of Frost
  • Check weapon upgrades: put the new weapon in weapon set 2, open the TwisterTwister gem and compare the « average damage per use » value. If it goes up, it’s an upgrade
  • Drop Frost Bomb at level 20: Frost BombFrost Bomb stops applying exposure at this level, no longer any value
  • Act 3 — Elemental Focus mandatory: Ice-Tipped Arrows can FreezeFreeze the boss and prevent Frost NexusFrost Nexus from generating chilled ground. Elemental FocusElemental Focus fixes the problem AND gives +25% more damage
  • Tier 5 support upgrades (act 4): Swap Ice Bite 2 for Projectile Acceleration 3 on TwisterTwister, add Charged MarkCharged Mark to Freezing MarkFreezing Mark, upgrade Rage IIIRage III on Whirling SlashWhirling Slash, Rapid Attacks IIIRapid Attacks III on Whirling SlashWhirling Slash + Thunderous LeapThunderous Leap
  • Check ilvl 46+ for Crossblade Spear: press alt on the item, this level unlocks the higher tier of mods that justifies serious crafting

Why This Build Is Completely Broken

The author admits it himself: TwisterTwister was probably never designed to scale this well with elemental damage. The build exploits a cascade of interactions that the developers likely never anticipated at this level of stacking.

The cornerstone is Ice-Tipped Arrows which converts TwisterTwister into cold damage. From there, all elemental spec multipliers become applicable: the elemental damage branch of the passive tree, Elemental Armament IIElemental Armament II II as a support gem, the chilled ground scaling of Frost NexusFrost Nexus, and the Herald of IceHerald of Ice interactions that blow up entire screens. That’s why the damage starts climbing from act 2, before even finishing the campaign.

In season 0.5, a new layer is added via Primal Bounty from Spirit Walker. At first glance, the node seems simply « good » with its additional projectiles. But once the second node is taken and the effect fully developed, we reach 6 additional projectiles and more than 200% increased projectile speed. That’s where it gets absurd: Projectile Acceleration IIIProjectile Acceleration III scales directly on projectile speed. Primal Bounty therefore transforms this support gem into a massive damage multiplier, on top of everything else.

Act 2 Power Spike: Frost Nexus + Ice-Tipped Arrows

The moment the build really clicks is the arrival of Frost NexusFrost Nexus from the raided camp in Vestary Outskirts (Act 2). Before that moment, you play a solid build with TwisterTwister, Whirling SlashWhirling Slash, Parry/Fangs of Frost and War Banner. After that, the build becomes a completely different game.

The sequence plays out as follows: in Act 2, you pick up Frost NexusFrost Nexus from the league mechanic. You already have Ice-Tipped Arrows since level 14. These two gems combined create an automatic loop — Ice-Tipped Arrows converts TwisterTwister to cold, cold triggers Frost NexusFrost Nexus which continuously generates chilled ground, and chilled ground gives a massive damage multiplier to your subsequent Twisters. From that moment on:

  • You can drop Parry and Fangs of Frost entirely — chilled ground generation becomes automatic
  • Bosses start melting in a few rotations
  • Packs explode instantly under the Herald of IceHerald of Ice + TwisterTwister combo
  • Switching to an asymmetric weapon swap setup (weapon set 1 attack speed for Whirling SlashWhirling Slash, weapon set 2 damage for TwisterTwister) maximizes both scalings separately

Spirit Walker and Primal Bounty — The 0.5 buff that changes everything

Season 0.5 introduces (or repositions) Spirit Walker as a competitive secondary ascendancy for Huntress. Although the full build uses Amazon as the primary ascendancy, the projectile scaling in the Spirit Walker zone of the tree becomes a massive upgrade for cold projectile builds.

The central node is Primal Bounty. Taken alone, it already provides a nice bonus with additional projectiles and projectile speed. But the recommended pattern is to take both Primal Bounty nodes (notable + grand notable) to reach the maximum effect threshold — 6 additional projectiles and +200% projectile speed.

This projectile speed then unlocks Projectile Acceleration IIIProjectile Acceleration III as a pure damage multiplier, in addition to its projectile speed and damage bonuses. This is the element that transforms a « solid endgame build » into an « instant screen clear ». Note: this scaling system is new in 0.5 and did not exist in this form in season 0.4. This is one of the reasons why the author insists that this build is « stronger than ever » for the 0.5 league start.

Weapon Sets Setup — Intentional asymmetry between Whirling Slash and Twister

One of the subtleties of this build is the asymmetric weapon swap configuration. Many melee/projectile builds in PoE2 use identical weapons across both sets. Here, it is intentionally the opposite.

The reason is mechanical: Whirling SlashWhirling Slash only scales on attack speed (we stack charges/stages as fast as possible), while TwisterTwister only scales on average damage per use (attack speed is almost useless for this gem). The result:

  • Weapon Set 1: Vast Winged Spear with maximized attack speed → Whirling SlashWhirling Slash + Barrage
  • Weapon Set 2: Spear with maximized average damage → TwisterTwister + Ice-Tipped Arrows
  • Upgrade validation method: put the new weapon in Set 2, open the TwisterTwister gem, verify that the « average damage per use » value goes up
  • Ice-Tipped Arrows mandatorily linked to Set 2 with TwisterTwister so that the cold conversion applies correctly
  • Barrage on Set 1 — important later when you pick up Dance with Death on the tree

This asymmetry allows scaling both skills to their maximum potential separately, rather than making a compromise with an « average » weapon that maximizes neither one nor the other. This is a technical detail but one that can represent 30 to 40% additional DPS on the boss phase.
