Build Overview
The Stormweaver is one of the most iconic Sorceress ascendancies in Path of Exile 2, and version 0.5 takes it to a whole new level. This « The Ultimate Elementalist » build by ruse_cruize revolves around a self-propagating spell engine: you cast a handful of skills and dozens of projectiles flood the screen on their own. It’s the « cast one spell and 30 spells come flying out » archetype pushed to its absolute maximum — but with a decisive new addition this season: a real defensive layer.
At the heart of the build are the elemental infusions. The Stormweaver has two key passives that make them absurdly powerful: each
Infusion picked up generates a second random one, and Storm’s Recollection causes remnants to reappear after being collected. Infusions frequently double a spell’s damage while also increasing its area of effect. The result: a cold-infused
Spark that covers the entire screen, passes through walls, reaches off-screen enemies, and cascades into your automated spells.
Two automatic engines are built on top of those sparks: Cast on Elemental Ailment, which triggers
Arc (consuming lightning infusions, with a bonus to shock magnitude), and
Cast on Critical, which rains down fire-infused
Comet for single-target damage. Two unique items carry the whole thing: Adonia’s Ego grants the
Pinnacle of Power buff (+90% elemental damage and conversion of all your damage into sources of freeze, shock, and ignite), while Maligaro’s Virtuosity locks your critical damage multiplier at 250% — which makes
Pinpoint Critical completely free, stripped of its usual critical damage penalty.
The big 0.5 revolution is defensive. Thanks to
keystone Mind Over Matter combined with Force of Will, belt and chest affixes, and several passive tree nodes, the build achieves 100% of damage taken from mana before life. From there it transitions into
keystone Eldritch Battery (energy shield fuels mana) and
keystone Chaos Inoculation. The mana bar becomes your true life bar — regenerating at around 500 mana per second, far outpacing what energy shield can manage. Blazing mobility through
Mobility via
Blink, monstrous clear speed, and now genuine survivability: this build checks every single box.
Strengths / Weaknesses
✅ Strengths
- Monstrous clear: cold-infused sparks cover and pierce the entire screen — one of the best map-clearing builds in the game.
- Unique defensive layer: 100% of damage taken from mana before life, with ~500 mana/s of passive regeneration.
- Near-autopilot gameplay: spells self-trigger (
Cast on Critical + Cast on Elemental Ailment), very few buttons to manage. - Exceptional mobility: access to
Blink with one of the shortest cooldowns in the game. - Permanent crowd control: everything hit by a
Spark is frozen, providing enormous quality of life. - Profitable and accessible farming: excellent league starter with fast wealth progression to gear up.
❌ Weaknesses
- Power charge ramp to redo: roughly once per minute, you need to reactivate Pinnacle of Power via a weapon swap combo.
- Resistance-tight: many affixes are dedicated to mana, leaving little room to cap your resistances.
- Single-target requires mana management: once your mana bar is depleted it refills slowly during boss fights — apply
Elemental Weakness before spending it all.
Skill Gem Setup by Step

The absolute priority on every piece: maximum mana and energy shield (converted to mana by
keystone Eldritch Battery). This serves as both your defense AND your offense, since draining a large mana bar translates directly into more single-target damage.
- Gloves (unique): Maligaro’s Virtuosity — locks your critical damage at 250%, which enables
Pinpoint Critical on
Spark,
Cast on Critical and Cast on Elemental Ailment with no downside. - Main weapon (unique): Adonia’s Ego — the wand that grants access to the Pinnacle of Power buff (+90% elemental damage and conversion of all damage into freeze/shock/ignite).
- Helmet (unique): Alpha’s Howl — provides 100 spirit, essential to run the build’s five spirit gems. Preferable to an energy shield helmet in 0.5.
- Off-hand (focus): a focus with +2 levels of arcane spells, high maximum energy shield (up to ~440) and mana — all converted back into mana.
- Belt: take advantage of the new Breach craft — cast speed and spell damage while a flask is active (pair with a Lavianga’s Spirit flask for a permanent buff), the « damage taken from mana before life » affix, and maximum mana.
- Body armour: the « damage taken from mana before life » affix (upgraded), plus spirit OR mana / energy shield. If you are dying too often, drop spirit (and therefore
Blink) in favour of energy shield. - Boots: add spirit via a mystic alloy (10–15 spirit), then maximise mana and resistances.
- Rings: maximum mana + increased mana percentage (consider raising mana quality to push the roll from 6% to 7%), some lightning/cold damage, and the rest dedicated to capping your resistances.
Gameplay Tips
- Aim for 100% « damage taken from mana before life »: Hold Alt while hovering over the relevant nodes to read the exact total. There’s no benefit to going above 100% — adjust your points accordingly.
- Master the power charges ramp: drop a
Frost Bomb to generate infusions, swap to your second weapon set to activate Infusion of Power, cast a
Firestorm → you’re now at 6 charges. Swap back and activate Pinnacle of Power for a full minute of maximum power. - Snapshot tip: a
Spark retains the weapon set it was cast from. Cast a cold-infused
Spark, then swap weapon sets: the sparks will keep triggering your triggered spells and generating charges, making the ramp nearly painless across a map. - Always apply Elemental Weakness on resistant bosses: it’s your only source of penetration. Curse the boss BEFORE draining your mana, or you risk running dry.
- Spam Frost Bomb: it’s what continuously fuels your cold elemental infusions, and therefore your infused sparks.
- Interim setup before full gear: until you have the « damage taken from mana » affixes, play the classic
keystone Mind Over Matter version — it’s perfectly viable and farms a tremendous amount of content.
The Self-Propagating Combo Engine
Everything starts with the Stormweaver’s elemental infusions. The first passive causes each picked-up infusion to generate a second, random one: even if you’re only producing one type of infusion, you’ll eventually be able to spend all of them. The second, Storm’s Recollection, causes remnants to reappear after being collected. Both nodes also increase your remnant pickup radius (up to +100%), making the build extremely smooth to play.
What do we spend these infusions on? First, on
Spark: cold-infused, it gains an insane range and projectile count, lasts longer and travels faster. These sparks then trigger your two trigger gems. On Cast on Elemental Ailment, you cast
Arc (which consumes lightning infusions, chains far and wide, and increases shock magnitude). On
Cast on Critical, you rain down fire-infused
Comet — your massive single-target damage, thanks to the two Stormweaver passives that convert these comets to fire. You move, the screen fills with freezing sparks, arcs chain endlessly and comets rain down: that’s the combo engine.
Turning Mana Into Your Life Bar
This is the big new addition in 0.5.
keystone Mind Over Matter causes all damage to go through your mana before your life, but with a heavy penalty: -50%
Soul Drain. The Stormweaver works around this through Force of Will (20% of damage taken from mana), « damage taken from mana before life » affixes on the belt and chest (plus an implicit and a rune as bonuses), and several passive tree nodes. This brings us to 100% conversion: life becomes irrelevant, so we take
keystone Eldritch Battery to convert all energy shield into mana.
Why is mana a better defensive layer than energy shield? First, mana regeneration: roughly 500 mana per second passively, whereas energy shield struggles to recharge under fire. We amplify this further with Arcane Remnants and
Mana Remnants, plus a new belt affix that gives a chance to double-count picked-up remnants. Second, mana is immune to the chaos damage penalty — and we still run
keystone Chaos Inoculation for full chaos immunity — it’s so accessible and inexpensive that it would be a shame to skip it.
Generating Power Charges: The Weapon Swap Combo
This is the build’s only real Achilles’ heel: you need to re-ramp Pinnacle of Power roughly once per minute. The Infusion of Power passive grants you a power charge each time an infusion is consumed. Since the Stormweaver generates them in abundance, the ramp is straightforward: drop a
Frost Bomb to generate infusions, swap to your second weapon set to activate Infusion of Power, cast a
Firestorm — and you’re at six power charges. Swap back, activate Pinnacle of Power, and enjoy a full minute at peak power. The
Spark snapshot trick (described in the tips section) makes this ramp nearly invisible once you’re in a map.
Key Passive Tree Nodes
Three notables account for a large portion of the damage: Echoing Frost, Echoing Flames, and Echoing Thunder, totaling 90% increased damage since you permanently freeze, ignite, and shock. The other node you absolutely cannot overlook is freeze buildup (
Freeze buildup): you need enough stacks so that every
Spark freezes the enemy it hits. This is essential for Cast on Elemental Ailment to function properly, and permanently freezing the screen is an invaluable quality-of-life benefit. Finally, don’t forget to set up your weapon swap: power charge generation through infusion consumption depends on it entirely.
