The first hotfix landed the very evening of launch. The second came less than an hour and a half later. By the end of the following morning, Grinding Gear Games had published six. Three days after Forbidden Rites went live, the forum counter shows nine.

What this pace says about the Forbidden Rites launch

The 0.5.5 Forbidden Rites patch, whose notes were relayed by Maxroll, opens an event league running alongside Runes of Aldur, which continues uninterrupted. The game’s economy reset entirely from zero at launch. The heaviest content change remains the Trial of Chaos rework, now playable across 30 rooms instead of 10, joined by a guaranteed Ritual altar in every campaign zone and the Viridian Wildwood end-game mechanic. We detailed this content in everything that changes with Forbidden Rites.

Grinding Gear Games introduced no balance changes in this patch. The studio cited a lack of development time to deliver a satisfactory result, a choice that breaks with the usual practice for a new league.

Two readings coexist, and neither cancels out the other. On a league that resets the economy to zero, every hour of dysfunction weighs more than usual: every player starts from nothing at the same moment, and the slightest imbalance hits the entire population at once. Conversely, fixing things in hours rather than weeks is exactly what you’d expect from a studio during its launch week.

We haven’t opened up the details of the nine hotfixes. So it’s impossible to say whether they address major blockers or simple quality-of-life tweaks. What’s documented here is the pace of the interventions, not their severity. To arrive prepared for this league, our hour-by-hour first-night plan and our selection of the 18 builds worth playing remain available to read.

Maxroll writes that the event will run « likely until the launch of Path of Exile 2 1.0. » Grinding Gear Games has not confirmed an end date.
