A graphics card maker says it can no longer buy the base kit of an RTX 5090, even as a backorder. The testimony dates from October 26, 2026: it is anonymous, it comes from the German YouTuber der8auer in a video about the end of the card, and it was picked up on October 27 by Club386 and PC Gamer. Nvidia replies that the card has not been discontinued.
Both statements can be true at the same time, and that is what makes the story useful to anyone who wants to buy. One caveat: everything rests on a single anonymous source. Nothing shows that Nvidia’s other partners are in the same position, and nobody has cross-checked this testimony so far.

What the partner says: no more kits, no more backorders
According to PC Gamer (James Bentley, October 27), the partner told der8auer: « No, Nvidia did not inform us that RTX 5090 is EOL. But currently we cannot purchase GB202 together with 32 GB GDDR7 as [a] complete set, and we also don’t know if ordering will be possible again in the future. »
The GB202 is the card’s graphics chip, GDDR7 its memory. A maker (Asus, MSI, Gigabyte or another) receives them from Nvidia as a bundle before assembling the card. In earlier shortages, the partner could at least place a backorder, meaning it could join the queue while waiting for stock. That door is now closed to it, according to PC Gamer.

Club386’s headline is more categorical than the testimony: « likely no longer accepting ». The partner only speaks for itself, and PC Gamer’s piece notes that it is unclear whether the blockage comes mostly from the chip or the memory.
What Nvidia answers
Nvidia told der8auer that the card has not been discontinued. The company acknowledges production limited by manufacturing capacity, and its German branch states: « Nvidia will continue to ship it, and this is very important. » Similar words were spoken in Taipei by Jeff Fisher on October 16 and 17, detailed in our October 20 article on Nvidia’s denial.

A denial of discontinuation says nothing about what leaves for the factories. Nvidia can keep « shipping » a card while serving very few partners, and the sentence does not contradict the testimony. PC Gamer also mentions a rumor that the bundled sale of chip plus memory could end. Even then, makers would remain exposed to rising memory prices, a topic that Michael Dell raised again on October 24 by warning of a worse shortage in 2027.
RTX 5090 in France: prices read on October 28
The site Materiel-Gamer recorded on October 12, at LDLC, a minimum price of 6 599.95 € among 19 listings, with a median of 6 899.95 €. On October 28, 2026, around 2:50 pm, the search « RTX 5090 » on LDLC’s site still shows 19 listings, from 8 799 € (an MSI Ventus 3X OC) to 9 699 € (a special-edition Asus ROG Astral). The floor has therefore risen by 2 199 € in sixteen days, about 33 %.
I give these figures without promising the cards are in stock: the page lists products and their prices, not guaranteed deliveries. The French list price is not shown on Nvidia’s French page (it only displays a price template to fill in), so I quote no launch price. PC Gamer, for its part, mentions a starting price of 2,000 dollars and listings above 8,000 dollars. Materiel-Gamer notes that the French increase began in mid-August, before the October 10 rumor, so the rumor cannot explain it alone.
Not discontinued does not mean delivered: what it changes for a buyer
What sells today are cards that have already been made. The testimony concerns cards still to come. If the partner no longer gets kits, its stock will run out one day, and no source gives a date. That is my deduction, not an announcement.
A second clue comes from a heatsink maker contacted by der8auer: « Two of our partners already reduced quite much the order forecast for RTX 5090 based heatsinks in Q1 2027, when compare[d] with Q3 2026. » It adds that it has received no orders for the second quarter of 2027. Two customers of a single subcontractor do not make the market, but the signal points the same way as the first.
For someone who hesitates, the choice comes down to two bets. Buying now at 8 800 € or more assumes supply will not come back, which nothing confirms. Waiting for a drop assumes the opposite, and the trend seen since August points the other way. If the card is used for work that earns money, the question is different from leisure use, and an identified French retailer with a warranty is better than a listing at 8,000 dollars.
A second partner confirming, or Nvidia putting a number on its production, would tip the case. Neither exists at this hour.
