Black Temple has nine bosses and ends with Illidan Stormrage. Battle for Mount Hyjal has five, up to Archimonde. Two weeks after TBC Phase 3 opened on the Anniversary realms, three raid currencies are still sitting untouched in most players’ banks. Badges of Justice, Marks of the Illidari, and Heart of Darkness pile up unspent, even though they shortcut the path to tier 6 gear. Three shortcuts follow, then a raid access change you need to know before your next raid night, and a ring trick to handle with caution.
Badges of Justice buy Primal Nethers without waiting for a drop
The Badge of Justice vendor G’eras, in Shattrath, exchanges ten badges for one Primal Nether, plus a small amount of gold. Wowhead notes that before TBC Phase 3, Primal Nether could only be obtained by killing the final bosses of heroic dungeons.
The item is bind-on-pickup, so it can’t be resold, but spending it on crafts saves you from buying the finished item outright. The most common uses are the leg armor enchants Golden Spellthread, Nethercleft Leg Armor, and Runic Spellthread, each costing 1 Primal Nether. In total, more than 100 recipes call for it.
If you’ve stopped running Outland heroics since Black Temple opened, your Badges of Justice are piling up for nothing. Trading them turns that surplus into Primal Nethers in batches of ten, without forming a five-man group for a single random drop.
Marks of the Illidari pay for your raid consumables
You pick up Marks of the Illidari from trash mobs in Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, Mount Hyjal, Black Temple, and soon Sunwell Plateau. Wowhead notes that you need to be Exalted with The Sha’tar, Cenarion Expedition, and your faction, Aldor or Scryers, to trade them in with Arcanist Xorith (Scryers) or Haldor the Compulsive (Aldor), in Shattrath.
Once Exalted, each mark buys a Shattrath flask usable in those same raids. That includes Fortification, Mighty Restoration, Supreme Power, Relentless Assault, Pure Death, and Blinding Light, identical to the versions sold on the auction house but free in exchange for your marks.
Marks also buy ten Haste Potions or ten Destruction Potions, two DPS boosts that are expensive on the auction house.
These items ease the gold budget that TBC Phase 3 already demands elsewhere, between epic gems and reputations to grind at the same time. Picking up a Mark of the Illidari while clearing trash means one less flask or ten fewer potions to buy on the auction house.
Heart of Darkness crafts the best-in-slot item for several slots
Heart of Darkness drops from trash mobs in Mount Hyjal and Black Temple, and is used in Leatherworking, Tailoring, and Blacksmithing to craft several TBC Phase 3 gear pieces. Wowhead lists which ones become BiS, the best possible item for that slot.
Swiftheal Wraps are BiS for Restoration Druid, and a solid option for Holy Priest and Restoration Shaman. Bracers of Nimble Thought are BiS for Balance Druid, Shadow Priest, Elemental Shaman, and Warlock in both Affliction and Destruction. They remain a good option for Arcane Mage. Dawnsteel Bracers stay solid for Holy Paladin.
Bindings of Lightning Reflexes are BiS for Retribution Paladin, good for Enhancement Shaman, and require 4 Hearts of Darkness for a player-tradeable item. Shoulders of Lightning Reflexes, meanwhile, are BiS for Enhancement Shaman for 2 Hearts of Darkness, but are no longer tradeable once crafted.
These crafted pieces will stay the best in their slot until Phase 4 Sunwell opens, and its date is expected at BlizzCon this weekend.
Black Temple access changed in TBC Phase 3
Wowhead reports that Blizzard confirmed a TBC Phase 3 bug that let some players into Black Temple without finishing the attunement, the mandatory quest chain required to unlock a raid. Affected characters lose access until they complete the chain properly.
On September 1, 2026, Kaivax, Blizzard’s community manager, posted on the official forum. He wrote: « Some players have noticed that we have a bug associated with the Black Temple attunement questline. » The fix arrives with the September 8 weekly maintenance, and the full chain becomes mandatory again to enter, as originally intended.
Players who had access without finishing the chain lose it. On alt characters, you need to log in with the one that completed the chain to unlock access for the rest of the account, an account-wide mechanic rather than per-character.
Our preparation guide details this chain, up to the Vials of Eternity on the Mount Hyjal side. Wowhead points out a good reason to redo it on an alt, even if access is already unlocked for the whole account. The chain ends with the Medallion of Karabor, a necklace that grants 40 Shadow Resistance, obtained by defeating Rage Winterchill in Mount Hyjal.
Blizzard hasn’t announced any account-bound Medallion of Karabor. Redoing the chain on an alt remains the only way to get a second one, useful against Mother Shahraz, where Shadow Resistance is strongly recommended.
Wowhead’s trick for the Scale of the Sands ring, at your own risk
Completing the Mount Hyjal attunement unlocks the Scale of the Sands ring. The one-step quest, Vials of Eternity, requires defeating and looting Lady Vashj in Serpentshrine Cavern and Kael’thas Sunstrider in Tempest Keep. Wowhead notes that you can now go straight to those two bosses without clearing the rest of the raid, hence « last boss only » groups for this quest.
Completing the quest grants Friendly with the Scale of the Sands reputation and a first item level 128 ring, in four versions depending on your role. After that, only mobs from the Battle for Mount Hyjal raid advance the reputation. Trash gives 12 points, Frost Wyrms 60, bosses 375, Archimonde 1,500. A full clear gives roughly 8,500 points, close to five weeks to reach max rank, without resetting trash.
At Exalted, you get an item level 152 ring, in four versions. To level up fast, players chain Hyjal Trash Farms, which consist of clearing the first seven waves of the raid and then letting the mobs overrun the defenders to trigger a wipe, which resets the instance without killing or looting a single boss.
Wowhead passes along advice from Beanna, the site’s Protection Warrior guide writer. The Exalted tank ring’s armor proc doesn’t stack with Scroll of Protection V, and overwrites it entirely. This low-proc-rate effect ends up reducing mitigation compared to the scroll’s permanent effect, which makes the Exalted tank ring unusable for a serious tank.
The trick is to delete your Revered tank ring before upgrading it, tell Soridormi you lost it to get a new one, level that one up to Exalted, then convert it to the DPS version instead of the tank version. You then restore the deleted Revered tank ring through Battle.net’s item restoration tool, and keep both in your bag.
This maneuver involves character-bound items. A wrong click in Battle.net restoration isn’t always reversible.
