Zul’Aman TBC: Midnight Raid, Hostages and War Bear

Midnight Paris time, on the night of October 22 to 23, 2026. That is when Zul’Aman TBC opens on the Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary realms. It is a ten-player raid with a timer and a mount at stake.

The time conversion works like this: 3 p.m. on the Pacific coast is 22:00 UTC. France stays on summer time (UTC+2) until October 25, so it is 00:00 in Paris on the 23rd. Here is what this phase changes.

Zul’Aman TBC: a 10-player raid with no attunement

Blizzard Watch presents phase 3.5 as a mini-phase. It still brings a new raid, tweaks to existing dungeons and raids, and adjustments to game systems. Zul’Aman is the main attraction.

Warcraft Tavern fills in the details. It is a level 70, 10-player raid in the Ghostlands, with no attunement required, a 3-day lockout and six bosses: Nalorakk, Akil’zon, Jan’alai, Halazzi, Hex Lord Malacrass and Zul’jin. If your guild can already field ten geared players, Zul’Aman TBC is waiting for you from the first evening.

For a high-level player, Zul’Aman TBC mostly changes preparation: every absence shows. With ten slots, nobody hides at the back of the group. The balance of healers, damage dealers and utility is tuned down to the class.

The hostages: the timer decides the night

This is the change that matters. According to Warcraft Tavern, from the entrance, « the Amani will begin preparing to execute them »: the hostages held in the raid are doomed if time runs out. Each lieutenant you defeat saves some, extends the counter and adds loot.

Blizzard Watch quotes the final reward: « if you rescue all of the hostages before the time runs out then your party will earn the Amani War Bear mount ». Warcraft Tavern describes it as a rare combat mount.

Neither source gives the timer length or the number of hostages for this version, and I will not invent them. The logic of the timer is clear, though: a wipe (the whole group dying) costs minutes, not just repairs. My take: aim for consistent pulls rather than a damage record on one boss. Save your consumables for the end of the raid too.

Hyjal and Black Temple open to everyone

Phase 3.5 removes the attunement for Mount Hyjal and Black Temple. Both sources confirm it. Latecomers no longer have a quest chain to finish before joining a raid. Our article on the arrival of Black Temple in phase 3 on August 27 recalls where the realms stood before this change.

Heroic dungeons get lighter too: Blizzard Watch says their overall difficulty goes down. The reputation required to buy the keys drops as well. The two sources disagree on the exact tier (one writes « Heroic », the other « Honored »). Check it in game with the key vendor before planning your evenings.

This changes how you gear up fast. Our three Phase 3 shortcuts to get geared still hold, but access to heroics now opens to players who were still far from them.

Badges, gems and loot: what changes your purchases

Badges of Justice now drop in Karazhan, Gruul’s Lair, Magtheridon’s Lair, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep and Zul’Aman, according to Blizzard Watch. You trade them for gear with G’eras in Shattrath. Doomlord Kazzak and Doomwalker drop badges too. Their loot becomes bind-on-equip (BoE) instead of bind-on-pickup.

On the gem side, epic gems come from Magtheridon’s Black Sack of Gems and the jewelcrafter’s Brilliant Glass. Blizzard Watch specifies that items you already own will not generate epic gems after the fact. Warcraft Tavern adds that Primal Nether and the Nether Vortex stop being soulbound.

If you watch prices, reread our analysis of what is expensive outside Black Temple before spending. For PvP, read the one on Season 2 arena gear sold cheaper for honor. A material that becomes tradable changes the market. I prefer to watch prices for a few days before buying.

To do before October 22

  • Lock your ten-player composition and warn your substitutes: the hostage timer leaves no time to look for someone.
  • Plan for a back-to-back raid: potions, food and repairs done before entering.
  • Keep room for Badges of Justice: Zul’Aman TBC provides them, and G’eras is the destination.
  • Check the reputation tier for heroic keys in game, since the sources differ.
  • Do not panic-sell materials that became tradable: let the market settle.

Warcraft Tavern files this phase under catch-up content before the final raid, the Sunwell Plateau.
