The WoW Forever PvP system rests on two separate counters: Honor, which buys gear, and Rank Points, earned mostly in battlegrounds, which move you up the 14 ranks. That is what Blizzard wrote on 7 October 2026 in the article How PvP Progression in World of Warcraft: Forever Works. We had described the same system two weeks earlier from files extracted from the game: the datamine of 24 September. Here is what Blizzard confirmed, what has moved since, and what still has no official source.

WoW Forever PvP: Honor and Rank Points, two separate counters
Blizzard opens its article by saying PvP progression has « two parts: Honor and Rank Points ». Honor is earned by defeating other players, completing battlegrounds and finishing PvP quests. During the holiday week of a highlighted battleground, gains are increased.
Rank Points come from battlegrounds and the relevant PvP quests, with a bonus during holiday weeks. They move the player through the ranks of the original World of Warcraft, up to the titles of High Warlord for the Horde and Grand Marshal for the Alliance. Blizzard specifies that « Ranks have a weekly cap ».
The datamine said the same thing, with one difference in source: it attributed Rank Points to battlegrounds and to tasks from an NPC in Gadgetzan, where Blizzard speaks of PvP quests in general. The official text gives no cap figure. The thresholds published in our datamine (2,700 points in week 1, 24,750 in week 10 for rank 14) come from the client files, not from Blizzard: they remain to be confirmed in game.
The official article also says nothing about point decay, Honor gained per kill, or diminishing returns on the same targets. No source we consulted settles these points.

Rewards per rank: the datamine confirmed
Honor buys two sets of PvP gear: one blue and one epic. To move up to the epic piece, you need the blue piece plus an Emboldened Seal, which requires a minimum rank to buy. Blizzard adds that shamans get healer, melee and caster PvP sets.
The official list of ranks matches the datamine line by line:
| Rank | Reward (Blizzard announcement of 7 October 2026) |
|---|---|
| 1 | Tabard |
| 2 | PvP trinket |
| 3 | Cloaks |
| 4 | Necklace |
| 5 | Combat potions |
| 6 | Tabard |
| 7 | Battle Standard |
| 8 | Epic bracers, epic belt upgrade token |
| 9 | Epic boots upgrade token |
| 10 | Epic gloves upgrade token |
| 11 | Mounts |
| 12 | Epic legs and epic shoulders upgrade tokens |
| 13 | Epic chest and epic helm upgrade tokens |
| 14 | Epic weapons |
The trinket therefore arrives at rank 2, mounts at rank 11 and epic weapons at rank 14, as in the extracted files. The names of the pieces (Knight-Captain, Marshal, Field Marshal) and the weapon stats appear only in the datamine.
What has changed since the datamine
Two values from the datamine were changed by Blizzard in the beta development notes, published on the official forum by community manager Kaivax. On 1 October 2026, the Honor costs of PvP gear and upgrade tokens were adjusted, and the Honor cap went from 15,000 to 25,000. The datamine of 24 September still showed 15,000, and an item at 15,000 Honor and 20 Alterac marks.
On 16 October 2026, the same source states that battleground Marks of Honor now stack up to 30, up from 20. On 8 October, another PvP point: critical strikes in PvP no longer have reduced efficacy. The notes updated on 26 October contain no new change to Honor, ranks or battlegrounds.
Battlegrounds: Alterac should no longer be the default choice
On the maps, Blizzard says it reviewed Honor gains so that the pace of acquisition is comparable everywhere, so players enjoy every battleground without feeling compelled to choose Alterac Valley solely for Honor efficiency. The article gives no gain figure per map.
For battlegrounds, the level brackets are not in Blizzard’s article. They come from the beta client data we recorded on our pages: Warsong Gulch from level 10 (10 vs 10), Arathi Basin from 20 to 60 (15 vs 15), Darkspear Islands (new in Forever, 15 vs 15) from 30 to 60, and Alterac Valley from 51 to 60 (40 vs 40). These are beta values, not confirmed by Blizzard.
Seasons and ruleset
Each WoW Forever season offers a journey of weekly tasks that grant Honor and Rank Points. Three of these tasks per season also grant a Legacy Point and remain available in later seasons, since they are tied to the Legacy system. Progress is checked in the character pane (C key), Player vs. Player tab, which shows rank, points and available rewards.
The ruleset choice weighs on how you play PvP: we detailed it in our article on the Normal, PvP or roleplay choice, and Venruki gave his view on the PvP ruleset in this article. WoW Forever launches on 4 November 2026 at 3 pm PST (5 November, midnight in Paris); until then, the weekly cap figures remain those of the datamine unless Blizzard publishes them.
