C-TIER | BUILD BARBARIAN BRUTALITY (@ascensionsidekick) | ASCENSION CoA

Barbarian Brutality build - Ascension CoA
Brutality
Carnage stacks execute 2H sustained pressure

Brutality is the Barbarian's core damage tree: stack Carnage through relentless physical attacks, then consume it for a Strength-scaled burst. The spec sets up its kill windows ahead of time — stack, then decapitate — for damage that's almost purely physical, and a playstyle that's simple, fast, and forgiving.

This builder-spender identity shows up in every one of its traits: Carnage stacking, a low-health execute, two-handed weapon play, and sustained pressure over time rather than one-off burst.

Signature Spell
Excessive Power

Raises your maximum Energy by 100%.

Retail Feel

Plays a lot like a retail Fury Warrior: the same rage/enrage-driven filler loop, the same heavy pack cleave (Barbaric Whirl, Brutal Swing, Maximum Carnage — filling the Whirlwind/Bladestorm niche), and the same low-health execute (Decapitate ~ Execute). The differences are the resource — Energy instead of Rage, so it rarely runs dry — and built-in self-sustain (the Born in Blood heal-over-time plus Sustaining Swings' lifesteal) as a core part of the kit instead of bolted on: a Fury Warrior tuned for solo/skirmish play rather than raid-dummy parsing.

AoE/cleave specialist that shines on packs thanks to Barbaric Whirl and Maximum Carnage, but offers no real group support — bring an actual healer for anything past trash.

ComplexityNormal
In PvP it shines as an objective holder and flag carrier thanks to its clump-wide cleave (Barbaric Whirl, Brutal Swing, Maximum Carnage) and Crush's lockdown, but struggles as a pure arena duelist with no root/snare immunity against a kite chain.

In practice the rotation boils down to two ideas — fill Energy, then dump it into Decapitate under 35% health — but the real difficulty is chaining the three Enrage effects back-to-back so Smash never goes dark.

Interactive talent tree

The tree below is pre-loaded with the recommended leveling allocation for Brutality — 55 points spread across the Barbarian’s class tree and the spec tree. Hover or tap a node to see its full tooltip, and use the tabs to browse the class’s other trees.

Leveling Guide

Leveling plays as a straightforward burst-melee grind: pull with Headhunter's Spear, build Energy through Athleticism and Battle Rhythm, then dump it all into Decapitate for execute-scaling nukes, leaning on Crush, Brutal Swing, and Maximum Carnage to clear packs solo or duo.

Defiance, Blood and Glory, and Drunken Brawler keep you alive without a healer along the way. In a group it slots in as a pure single-target burst DPS that also hands out Symbol of the Warspear's attack-power buff.

Decapitate
It's the finisher that dumps your Energy; practically every other Brutality node exists to feed it.

Stat Priority
PvE
Hit (until your specials stop missing a +3-level target) Expertise (until your attacks stop being dodged/parried) Agility Critical Strike Armor Penetration Haste
PvP
Resilience Stamina Agility Hit (to cap) Critical Strike Expertise Haste

As a pure Physical builder-spender, Agility — not Strength — is the primary stat: Ancestral Might turns Agility directly into attack power, and Body Builder converts 3 Agility into 1 Strength (itself reconverted into AP via Ogre's Strength), so Agility scales attack power through two paths while Strength mostly acts as an Agility sink. After the Hit/Expertise caps, prioritize Agility, then Crit (Brutal Strikes amplifies physical crit damage) ahead of Armor Penetration and Haste; top players also value Armor Penetration highly and stack Strength through group buffs for its large AP payoff.

Recommended Weapon
StyleDual-wield or two-handed
Main handOne-hand (dual-wield) or two-hand weapon
Off handOne-hand (when dual-wielding)
Plays naturally dual-wield — Smash and Barbaric Whirl both hit with both weapons — but a two-hander works too, since Battering Ram rewards a big 2H. Run whichever your gear favors.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
  • Real self-sustain built into the normal rotation — Born in Blood's heal-over-time and Sustaining Swings' lifesteal keep it topped without a healer, with Defiance as an on-demand panic button.
  • Genuine melee lockdown — Crush is a frontal-cone knockdown/stun, and Horde Breaker turns it into a guaranteed crit on a Headbutt target.
  • Wide, repeatable cleave that can swing a group fight — Barbaric Whirl, Brutal Swing, and Maximum Carnage all cleave nearby enemies, backed by Decapitate executes.
Weaknesses
  • No true ally-targeted heal, cleanse, or shield — Warband only pulses a passive group heal-over-time, not reactive party support in a dungeon.
  • Damage sags outside the Unbridled Rage window — single-target throughput is middling, and the spec's real ceiling is AoE/cleave.
  • Anti-CC is essentially nonexistent — no baseline fear/root/snare break or on-demand gap-closer, leaving long windows of vulnerability to a kite-and-CC chain.
Skill Floor & Ceiling
Skill Floor
Low

Very easy to pick up — a builder-spender with few moving parts.

Skill Ceiling
High

Still has real skill expression at the top end.
