Ancestry keeps group-wide buffs rolling ahead of the fight rather than reacting to it, with enough toughness to off-tank in a pinch.

Signature Spell
Fill Level

Grants you Fill Level and the ability to manipulate a Tankard — a magical Tankard that fills up over time, granting 1 stack of Fill Level every 2 seconds; some of your abilities empty the Tankard to trigger with a reduced cooldown.

Retail Feel

Closest to retail Enhancement Shaman. The mechanical fingerprints line up directly: a weapon-proc mechanic that adds bonus Frost main-hand attacks and builds a secondary resource (Ancestral Combat and Fill Level generation ≈ Windfury Weapon feeding Maelstrom), a summoned pet that copies your whirl attack (Honored Ancestor via Ancestor's Call mirroring Ancestral Whirl ≈ Feral Spirit wolves mirroring Stormstrike), stackable raid-wide totem-style auras for haste/attack power/crit (Ancestral Fury, Splash Zone/War Cry, Frozen Blades, Clanlord's Totem ≈ Skyfury/Strength of Earth-style totems), a party haste cooldown (Tavern Brawl! ≈ Bloodlust/Heroism-adjacent), and self-sustain generated through combat procs rather than a dedicated heal spell (Ramhorn Rage's group regen plus Liquid Courage's Fill Level damage reduction ≈ Enhancement's proc-flavored sustain, not Resto Shaman's actual healing kit). Like Enhancement, it's fundamentally a melee DPS spec wearing 'support' clothing via auras and a haste cooldown, not a healer.

Role, tiers & resource
C
Dungeon
Well-rounded dungeon support: Ramhorn Rage as your emergency group heal, always-on haste/attack-power/crit auras, Keg Smash for AoE damage, and Frozen Tankard to stun a dangerous add or peel something off the healer.
C
Raid
Always-on auras (haste, attack power, crit) and group regen via Ramhorn Rage stand in for a battle rez the kit doesn't have — a moderate sustained damage ceiling.

A frontline brawler that swings a fight just by being there — Clanlord's Totem and the always-on haste/attack-power/crit auras buff your side the moment you arrive at a node — with opportunistic control (a thrown stun via Frozen Tankard, a casting-speed slow) rather than hard CC, and no CC-break or damage-reduction cooldown in the kit against a coordinated chain.

The rotation looks like two ideas on paper — keep Ancestral Combat rolling, Keg Smash on cooldown — but the real difficulty is tracking Tankard state (empty for Breath of the North, full for Ale of the God-King) as a second resource at all times, on top of timing support cooldowns instead of throwing them out on cooldown.

Leveling Guide

Levels around its permanent Honored Ancestor pet: Keg Smash and Breath of The North build Fill Level stacks that fuel Ale of The God-King and Ancestral Combat procs, letting the pet plus frost/physical off-damage carry solo/duo kills while Defiance and Blood and Glory cover the rare close call.

Its real job is group support — Ancestral Fury's haste aura, Crystal Enhancements' armor aura, Warband/Ancestral Roar party healing-over-time, and cooldowns like Splash Zone/War Cry/Clanlord's Totem make it a buff-and-utility support that still throws respectable AoE damage.

Ancestor's Call
Unlocks the permanent Honored Ancestor pet — nearly every other node in the tree (Ale of The God-King, Drunken Frenzy, The Spins, Might of Utgarde) exists to empower it.

Rotation
  1. Core loop — keep Ancestral Combat rolling for its bonus Frost proc chance and Fill Level generation, then dump Energy into Keg Smash on cooldown.
  2. Signature (Fill Level): grants you Fill Level and the ability to manipulate a Tankard — a magical Tankard that fills up over time, granting 1 stack of Fill Level every 2 seconds. Some of your abilities empty the Tankard to trigger with a reduced cooldown.
MaintainKeep Ancestral Combat rolling — it's the self-buff feeding your Frost procs and Fill Level generation.
CooldownsLine up Ramhorn Rage, Tavern Brawl! and Cheers! with burst windows or rough moments instead of throwing them out on cooldown.
TankardTrack Tankard state: Breath of the North only fires when it's empty, Ale of the God-King only fires when it's full — never let a fill go stale.

Melee weapon user built around Agility/AP scaling, with a build-defining choice: Thane's Guard grants shield proficiency and turns a shield from a pure mitigation piece into an offense steroid (increased attack speed and more Armor contribution) — the intended 1H+Shield setup, trading a little raw damage for speed and the survivability of an actual shield (Thane's Grip is the alternative for dual-wielding two-handers at a damage penalty). Stat priority: Agility (feeds AP scaling, Honored Ancestor scaling, and Ancestral Whirl damage) > Attack Power/Strength (Keg Smash and Breath of the North both scale directly off AP) > Haste (more swings = more Ancestral Combat procs and faster Ale of the God-King/Keg Smash cycling) > Crit (feeds Frozen Blades and Cold Brew's Fill Level generation on Frost crits) > enough Hit/Expertise to stop missing/being parried.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
  • Always-on party auras (haste from Ancestral Fury, attack/spell power from Splash Zone and War Cry, crit from Frozen Blades) plus Clanlord's Totem mean it swings group fights just by being present, no cast required.
  • Deep combat-sustain loop without needing an external healer — Ramhorn Rage (group max-HP regen extended by autoattacks) plus Liquid Courage's stacking damage reduction from held Fill Level.
  • Solid opportunistic lockdown for isolating and finishing targets — Frozen Tankard (thrown Frost stun that flags Frozen), Keg Smash's Blind Stupor casting-speed slow, plus Ale of the God-King/Breath of the North Frost burst windows to close out a trade.
Weaknesses
  • No personal defensive cooldown and almost no anti-CC — nothing in the kit breaks or reduces a full CC chain from a coordinated focus.
  • No direct heal spell for allies — its "support" is passive auras plus Ramhorn Rage's group max-HP regen and Cheers!'s damage-redirect; it cannot react to a teammate's burst damage the way an actual healer can.
  • No battle-rez or hard reset — sustain is entirely a combat-uptime engine (Ramhorn Rage regen, Fill Level mitigation), so if you get locked out of swinging, the whole survival loop stalls.
Skill Floor & Ceiling
Skill Floor
Medium

Approachable core loop — cycling Ancestral Combat, Keg Smash on cooldown, and Ramhorn Rage when you're getting hit is enough to play the spec competently with little practice.

Skill Ceiling
High

High ceiling — timing Ale of the God-King against a full Tankard, lining up Breath of the North with an empty one, weaving Ramhorn Rage/War Cry/Cheers! into the right moment of a fight, and choosing between a peel or a Frost burst with Frozen Tankard: these tradeoffs are what separate a skilled player from the passive auras alone.
