Build Witch Hunter Black Knight Ascension CoA
Black Knight
two-handed parry-scaling Noctis self-heal Shadow Brand

The dark knight, read from its full builder tree: two-handed strikes that scale with your parry rating, Noctis Blade healing you for 150% of its damage, doubled armor and Shadow Brands on everything you hit. A self-healing duelist that turns defense into offense — comfortably flexing toward tanking.

Signature Spell
Grasp of the Undying

Auto attacks while wielding a two-handed weapon have a 25% chance to unleash Grasp of the Undying, leeching health from the target based on your Attack Power.

Retail Feel

The kit's only caster answer is Guard Strike's interrupt and school lockout — there's no AMS-style magic absorb, no self-peel snare or root, and no gap closer, so it plays like a sticky avoidance tank rather than an anti-caster bruiser.

Your control suite runs on Guard Strike (interrupt + school lockout), Chains of Darkness (pull + taunt), and Witchblood Tonic's curse cleanse — enough to pull attention and briefly shut down a caster's school, with Witching Shroud as a conditional anti-CC out. With no hard immobilize in the kit (root, snare, fear, stun), a kiting target remains hard to pin down.

A reactive, low-button rotation: the real skill is in cooldown timing and reacting to procs rather than a long spell priority to memorize.

Leveling Guide

Levels as a self-sufficient melee tank: Noctis Blade lifesteals every swing, Shadow Brand plus Wide Swings feed a DoT that other sustain nodes key off of, and Witchblight/Clinch Fighting cover AoE pulls and near-death saves — this spec solos packs of mobs that would shred a normal DPS. Its group job is tanking: Chains of Darkness AoE-pulls-and-taunts a whole group at once, and Gaze of the Black Knight is a raid damage-transfer cooldown for the healers.

Noctis Blade
It's the on-demand lifesteal strike everything else (Wide Swings, Noctis Protection, Clinch Fighting, Undying, Night King) is built to buff or trigger off of; it's the mechanic that lets this spec tank without a shield.

Rotation
  1. Core loop — Auto-attack with your two-handed weapon to trigger your procs (Shadowstorm).
  2. Signature (Grasp of the Undying): Auto attacks while wielding a two-handed weapon now have a 25% chance to unleash Grasp of the Undying, leeching 20 + 15% SP + 10% AP health from the target.

Stat Priority
PvE
Hit (melee special-attack cap (until your specials stop missing a +3-level target), keeps Slash/Pommel Smash/Noctis Blade connecting) Expertise (until your attacks stop being dodged/parried) Agility (AP, crit, and passive dodge) Parry Rating (scales Noctis Blade's damage AND its 150%-of-damage self-heal – it's an active strike, not an avoidance proc – and Witchmail/Enchanted Armor double armor-from-items, so parry doubles as offense, sustain and mitigation) Armor Penetration Critical Strike Haste
PvP
Resilience/Stamina (a squishy duelist with no baked-in damage mitigation) Hit Expertise Parry Rating (sustains the Noctis Blade lifesteal loop that lets it out-trade) Agility Critical Strike
Recommended Weapon
StyleTwo-Handed
Main handTwo-handed weapon (Polearm, Staff, 2H Axe, 2H Mace, or 2H Sword)
Off hand
Two-handed weapon mandatory — Noctis Blade, Grasp of the Undying, and Witch Knight all key off it.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
  • Gaze of the Black Knight — a rare group damage-redirection cooldown: it shields you and then diverts a share of the damage your party members take, directly protecting a focused teammate (great with a duo ranged partner) and swinging teamfight burst windows.
  • Self-sustain stack — Noctis Blade's self-heal (a share of the damage it deals, both scaling with your parry rating), plus the passive AoE Shadowstorm procs off your auto attacks, makes it genuinely hard to kill in prolonged melee brawls and 1vX scrums.
  • Cheap core (Noctis Blade and Guard Strike cost little and March of the Black King even refunds Rage) means the kit rarely goes dry and can hold threat indefinitely.
Weaknesses
  • No hard CC — no stun, root, snare, or fear anywhere in the kit; your control is limited to Guard Strike's interrupt/school-lockout and the Chains of Darkness pull+taunt, so you can pull attention and briefly shut a caster's school but can't hard-lock a kiting target in place.
  • Core self-heal is melee-range-gated — Noctis Blade is a melee strike (its damage and heal scale with parry rating), so its self-heal only lands while you're on the target; it contributes nothing against ranged/caster pressure, exactly the damage type most likely to kill you.
  • Gaze of the Black Knight is a single, long-cooldown panic button — you get roughly one real group-save per fight, and misjudging it (or having it on cooldown) leaves your ally with no group mitigation tool at all.
Skill Floor & Ceiling
Skill Floor
Low

Auto-attack, press Noctis Blade on cooldown for the heal, and drop Gaze of the Black Knight roughly on cooldown when things get dicey — nothing more at the entry level.

Skill Ceiling
Medium

It's entirely about timing: knowing when to spend Gaze of the Black Knight (and on whom), sequencing Guard Strike interrupts, and gathering at the right moment with Chains of Darkness — no deep combo priority beyond that.
